I called the number and left a message telling them that I needed to contact an old reporter of theirs named Allan Portman. That I had a story for him but that when I tried calling him his number was disconnected making me think he had moved. I asked that they return my call with info on how to contact him or to please forward my phone number to him so he could contact me.. Thanked them.. the end...
Patiently awaiting there return call.. lets hope its soon =)

In my desparation I tried to shake a little more info from Tpetel and got this in return:

The *only* hit i get for "Duplicity Lane" is from google, and the page is a Jstor article. Now, since I'm on a university campus, I could easily pull the article, but I doubt very, very seriously that this is directly involved. I'm off to anagram land, thoug hi'm not convinced this is the right approach. If this pans out, we may have a new residence in Allentown Wink Also, "which clique" was I with? I'm assuming that the way forward is through affirmative answers: yes, I was there, etc. But I need some other info. The social eng side of this is a little beyond me atm.

I hope the new HiaSecret site pans out.

ETA: I'm thinking now that "duplicity" may be asking if i'm with the group. No idea how to respond, still.

BTW i keep an eye on #osprey on the irc server.

From what I could hear of your message it sounds like you are looking for Allen Portman. I have met Allen once or twice socially, but I'm afraid I don't have any current contact information for him. I checked our contact management software and found that the last couple times we tried to reach Allen we were not able to.

Allen is actually a contact of my partner, Peter. He may know more about what Allen is up to these days, but unfortunately, Peter is on assignment right now and is only occasionally available.

I'd be happy to ask Peter about Allen next time I talk to him, but I'd like to be able to assure him that your request is above board. I'm sure you understand. If you could provide some way for us to know that you are a friend or legitimate contact of Allen's, I'd really appreciate it.

Perhaps, since it is tpetal who is trying to find allen, we ask him for some sort of info to pass along. Or you could try using some of the SXSW or other info we know.

wait, how do we know jullian was at sxsw? THis is just proof that no matter how carefully you think you reviewed, you gotta miss something.

Glad to see you back Perf! I was worried that we'd have to rely on my generally lacking social skills and painfully obtuse references to get us through this Razz I had a feeling 1942 Duplicity was a reference to you, but when I found the user name you left in your conversation with Tpetal, it was perfidy1947. again, my careful observation leaves a little to be desired. I did get some humorous anagrams out of "duplicity Lane": in Cupid lately? etc.

ETA: I wanted to thank jqb22 for finding the site, too, since i managed to miss it before.

Cool island breezes
St. Kits has been great. Hasn't been too hot. Everything is nice and calm. Unfortunately, I'm sure that can't last. Been getting a little new work done, too. Hopefully I'll get several more days down here before I have to move on.
It's always nice to meet new friends, and it appears that I've met a couple nice people down here. Lots of treasure hunters, too. Makes me think of The Gold Bug. I get the impression that some of them are close to finding something.
Anyway, I think I'll finish up here at the computer in a little while, then I think I'll just sit by the window for a few minutes. The moon looks beautiful over the water at about 10:40. Maybe I'll spot those treasure hunters heading down the beach.

Do we trust him and tell him we found the paper Allan worked for?

Waiting by the window at 10:40... I think one of us should have been on SKYPE at that time....obviously none of us were. (I didnt see that message until after midnight, sry). So today, another message, says at 10:20.....Can someone be there?

I thought the Gold Bug was an odd comment too, because it was the Gold Fever or Gold Rush....not any bugs... I think surveillance when I hear bugs.

I live in Ohio, but have never heard of such a place, HeavenisaSecret. It is the right area code (614) for Columbus, Ohio. Also, on one of the memos, It was handwritten about Sat March 16....and at the bottom says "Heavenly Beds" at the Weston. Not sure if that's something we should have connected earlier about or not. Seems an odd comment on hotel stationary.

So who will be on SKYPE at 10:20? Raise your hand.

i was wondering earlier if someone could talk to David Bowman [stopdesign] about who ran the google booth last year....however, i JUST e-mailed him. this is what i told him:

im also re-asking the question of "where is he moving on to?" except, we dont really even know where he's moving from. hopefully it doesnt mean he is moving from SKYPE. then we'll have to find another way to talk to him with a quick response....
p.s.- YAY!! i think we have Allen's name spelled correctly. in the e-mail to that heaven is a secret website, she spells his name the same each time she says it. ALLEN

well, pretty much all it is, is the narrator has a friend who finds a... scarabæus... his slave thinks it is pure gold, but he wont touch it because he thinks it drove his master [the narrators friend] insane. william [narrators friend] finds scrap parchment by a wrecked boat by the shore. it ends up being some sort of map. the print on the paper was invisible unless it was heated. the narrator accidentally held it near the fire and they discovered it. it was coded and william tells the way he decodes it and how he made [impossible to me] connections. they dig a hole under a tree [the process in which they found this point is very long so if you want it, ill only type it if asked. otherwise, read the story Smile] they dig and find over a million dollars worth of treasure, which they think belonged to Captian Kidd.
THE END

i didnt see much of interest.... it kinda seems like how ARGs are solved...

 		I've been working today at work, instead of obsessing over overwatch Razz, but her's what I think:

I think the "1942 duplicity" was asking me if I was with perfidy1942 (duplicity and perfidy are very close in meaning, at least thematically).

He is referring to St. Kitts because it is part of his hiddne SKYPE message (St. Kits Yearly somethign something).

I think he is very much telling us he is moving on from SKYPE, so we need a good talker wit hsome good questions. We will probably be able to forgo dancing around our questions. I thin kwe can directly ask what we want to know.

It will be very *very* difficult for me to be on Skype at 10:20; I'm pretty sure he's using Pacific or Mountain time. I tend to be nearing bed at 10:20 Eastern, so if someone else can manage, that'd be great.

I think this new Poe reference is juts keeping with the secrecy theme. I think it's a nod to the steps we're taking and possibly a nod to my returning the Poe refernce on the KMQ blog. Not to say there's nothing to it. I've been wrong more often than right.

I'm still wondering how we know that Julian was at SXSW. I just can;t find it, but I've seen a few people refernce it.

I also *really* want to know about David Waters. He's nowhere in anything, save the one mention of his being a candidate.

When I get a chance in the next few hours, I'll try to get my questions together. I think we can really flesh this thing out if one of us can catch up with him on skype.
