OT : how do I really feel? (do I sound a little bitter?)

One last quote for the road (it's Bob Dylan):

I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
But goodbye's too good a word, gal
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right

It's been fun guys.
Smile

So it's....like...done?

I agree with your comments imbri, and can only imagine that after the problems encountered by Acheron PMs throughout the game...that they tried their best to wrap it up and give it a decent send off rather than folding....and that I do appreciate. They didn't quit, and that says something to me. Who knows what's going on BTS with RL, $$, servers, manpower.....so thanks Acheron for at the very least sticking with it.

trying to explain

Imbri: for the record, one basic principle I have is never explain (because I just end up sounding defensive), so it is evidence of how much I care, and my concern that no one is hurt by my coments, that I will attempt to explain anyway.

1. In any situation I am in, I apply evaluative strategies, one of which is the"value added" theory, which simply means I look for where I can have an impact. When I joined Acheron, I decided that my best addition would be simple emotional honesty, not that it was lacking, but that it was something I could and would do. (Let's face it everyone here is flippin' smart and more experienced in games and puzzles than I am.)

2. Given that, character interaction I had was fairly straightforward and simplistic emotion. I didn't just dislike Jake, I hated him. I was annoyed with Meg's whining even though I felt sorry for her. When Caretaker arrived, I flirted with him, defended him loyally and missed him terribly when he was absent. And, anyone who was in any chat room knows that I simply loved Reggie, his mind, his puzzles, his humor, I loved that guy.

3. All of the quotes and sigs that I used were carefully considered. When I posted the Bob Dylan song in this thread, I included enough for people to see that it was about a disappointed lover who has to move on. In the game, Frank (caretaker) was the character that I decided to trust and he let me down. Badly. Not only was he wrong about Jake but also he failed to protect Reggie, who was so precious to me, which I had repeatedly almost begged him to do.

4. Please remember that the title of the thread is "how I feel." Not "this is my rational and carefully considered opinion." I feel deeply betrayed and hurt by the characters, which I guess means the story too, but I am not sure about that. In keeping with my decision to give out honest emotion, I decided to post it. I never meant it as a reflection on anyone's effort in the game, especially the PM's or the other players. In my mind, the characters and the PM's are distinct, at least I try to keep that much of a grip on reality. But I do see how it could be misunderstood. I do greatly appreciate everyone's commitment to this game and their extraordinary generousity in creating it and allowing me to participate.

Um... I just watch them solve stuff and kibbitz. Its is nice for a change to be able to use my full intelligence such as it is and stretch to keep up with these guys, I never had to do that before Wink , it makes a good substitute for taking classes. We teach each other what we need to know. Very Happy Hey, I started in the Middle of CTW, this is only my second ARG, so as far as experience with these games, I don't have much compared with those who have been around since The Beast.

Rose, I am sorry you are disappointed with how Acheron ended, I am too, we let the bad guys win. I would hope though, that you not throw away the the good things that came with it, but are not really part of that experience. Even if you never play another ARG, I would hope you would still like to come and hang out with us once in a while in the #unfiction room. Cuz you are fun to talk to.

I also see this as well:

I'm not happy with the ending either, but it was my choice to stay, through the hiatus and through the technical problems. In fact Rose, I remember not so long ago in Unfiction when I was thinking of dropping out of Acheron due to frustration and health problems, you were the one who really pleaded with me to stick with Acheron, even though that was all I was going to give up, I would have hung around in Unfiction, cuz I like the social group.

I am curious about one thing though, do you get this upset when you lose a court case?

hey guys, i think we might be over-reacting to rose's post just a winsy bit. i read it as an 'in character' post, that is, the character she played during acheron of caretaker's love interest expressing her dismay that it's over and caretaker let her down.

rose has a sense of humour, objectivity and a love of drama (in a good way). let's not forget that!

I didn't play Acheron and I don't know Rose, but Iwas taking her first post as a farewell to the game and not to ARG's as a whole.

Just my $.02 Wink
