A Prophecy of Stars
Weird IM that is probably something...

So, yeah. Reading the blog, I'm pretty sure this is a trailhead. Problem is, I don't actually know a Christine Miffin, and I don't know her screen name, so I think I just painted myself into a corner...

Quote:
[19:59] C0LSHAW: hey, you're one of Christine's friends, aren't you?
[19:59] SamRey56: The name does sound familiar, yes.
[20:00] C0LSHAW: Christine Miffin? From Clover, NJ?
[20:01] SamRey56: I think I know her, yeah. I don't think she ever told me her last name, though.
[20:02] C0LSHAW: ... I'm her boyfriend, Colby... she gave me a whole bunch of screen names, and yours was one of them
[20:02] C0LSHAW: people she said I should get to know
[20:03] SamRey56: I'm reading your blog now, and I can see you're pretty stressed out. If I can be of some help, I'll be happy to.
[20:03] C0LSHAW: ha, lol, unless you know what "A Prophecy of Stars" means, I don't really know how you can help me...
[20:03] C0LSHAW: that phrase has been floating around my head for weeks
[20:04] SamRey56: I don't know the specific prophecy spoken of, no. Not unless it refers to Lovecraft, and I don't think that's it, lol. But maybe I could help you figure it out.
[20:06] C0LSHAW: Lovecraft? Like HP Lovecraft?
[20:06] C0LSHAW: never read him
[20:06] C0LSHAW: lol, thanks
[20:08] SamRey56: Yeah, H.P. Lovecraft. And don't worry, this could all be a misunderstanding. Though I am confused as to why Christine would react this way over a feather.
[20:08] C0LSHAW: Yeah, I know what you mean
[20:08] C0LSHAW: that's the strange thing
[20:09] C0LSHAW: I had dreams about a feather, in fact a tree full of them, and then the next day she's all weird in the park? I mean, wtf, mate?
[20:09] SamRey56: Hmm...maybe she is having similar dreams.
[20:09] C0LSHAW: that's what I was thinking
[20:10] C0LSHAW: but what would that mean?
[20:10] C0LSHAW: that we have some kind of telepathic link?
[20:11] SamRey56: Potentially. It's also said in many ancient cultures that two people that really belong together can often experience shared dreams, so looked at that way it's not bad at all. Or, and this is a very big maybe, maybe these aren't exactly dreams at all.
[20:11] C0LSHAW: maybe they're... prophecies
[20:12] C0LSHAW: ooh, I have chills
[20:12] C0LSHAW: lol
[20:12] SamRey56: Lol, probably not. I include it pretty much for the sake of completeness.
[20:12] C0LSHAW: lol, yeah, I don't blame you
[20:15] SamRey56: Hmm... How did she sound on the phone?
[20:16] C0LSHAW: the other day?
[20:16] C0LSHAW: nervous, I guess
[20:16] C0LSHAW: but today at the movies she was fine
[20:16] C0LSHAW: I don't know
[20:16] C0LSHAW: maybe I imagined the whole thing
[20:16] C0LSHAW: but I know it's going to bug me
[20:17] SamRey56: Did you mention anything about the feather or the dream today?
[20:17] C0LSHAW: nope
[20:17] C0LSHAW: (I thought you said you read my blog?) lol
[20:17] SamRey56: Lol, I'm starting from the beginning, so I have the full story to work with.
[20:17] C0LSHAW: oh, got it
[20:17] C0LSHAW: lol
[20:18] SamRey56: Well, if you really want to get to the bottom of this, there are a couple options.
[20:18] C0LSHAW: how's that?
[20:19] SamRey56: 1. Just come out and talk to her about it, face to face. Make sure it's an area where she feels extremely comfortable.
[20:19] SamRey56: 2. Get a friend of hers to try and do a bit of "recon" for you.
[20:19] SamRey56: Those are the two I'd recommend.
[20:20] C0LSHAW: Maybe I'll go with #2... lol
[20:20] C0LSHAW: that seems easiest, I guess... more betterer for me
[20:20] SamRey56: There is a third option, but it's kind of a shitty thing to do.
[20:20] C0LSHAW: ...
[20:20] SamRey56: Get a goose feather and basically just bring it to her and see how she reacts. Given the way she reacted in the park, I would strongly advise against that course of action.
[20:21] C0LSHAW: ooh, maybe I'll go with that one
[20:21] C0LSHAW: lol
[20:21] C0LSHAW: ... I'm just kidding, by the way
[20:22] SamRey56: (Lol, don't worry, I figured you were.) I'd say recon would be your best bet. For all we know, maybe she has some secret phobia of geese, and that's why she reacted that way.
[20:22] C0LSHAW: yeah, that could be
[20:22] C0LSHAW: lol
[20:23] SamRey56: Do you know any of her friends that you think could do the recon?
[20:24] C0LSHAW: umm not really
[20:24] C0LSHAW: we haven't been together for that long
[20:24] C0LSHAW: she gave me some screen names of friends of hers, so I guess I could ask someone
[20:25] SamRey56: Yeah, that could definitely work. How'd that happen, anyway? Maybe I'm just not all that experienced with girls, but it seems weird that she'd just out of the blue give you a list of screen names of her friends.
[20:25] C0LSHAW: yeah, I kind of thought it was weird too
[20:25] C0LSHAW: but she's a very unique person... her own individual, as they say
[20:26] SamRey56: Yeah, that she is. So hmm...how to go about this... It needs to be subtle. The catch with the recon is that if she figures it out, she'll probably be a bit upset.
[20:27] C0LSHAW: yeah, I know what you mean...
[20:27] C0LSHAW: I'll have to think about this
[20:27] C0LSHAW: thanks for your help...
[20:27] C0LSHAW: I have to go for a little bit... gotta cook a pizza or something
[20:27] C0LSHAW: I'm HUNGRY
[20:27] C0LSHAW: lol
[20:27] C0LSHAW: I'll be back on later
[20:27] SamRey56: Lol, okay. And hey, if I see Christine online, want me to try a little preliminary recond?
[20:28] C0LSHAW: sure@
[20:28] C0LSHAW: sure*
[20:28] C0LSHAW: thanks
[20:28] SamRey56: No problem. Happy to help.

His blog is here. So, this sound familiar to anyone?

This same guy got ahold of me yesterday. I agree, his blog is some kind of set up for an ARG. Not sure which one yet, but it actually has some similarity to Ethan Haas Was Right. I wasn't going to say anything about it till it was a little more certain in one direction or the other.

While it does have some similarities to Ethan Haas, there's no way to really connect the two yet. You could point out the stars connection, but until we know more, that's tenuous at best. Right now, I'm trying to find a web presence for Christine Miffin, and it's not easy.

Dunno - this reads like lower quality compared to EHWR's high end presentation.

@Esteed: Oddly enough reading the title made me think "The Stars are right" as well..

It has me thinking of the fairy tale of the swan maidens. If you were to choose a single movie to put as a favourite (you'd have more than one unless you really loved it wouldn't you?) would you ever choose Hitch?!

I rather like the fact that he started his blog on a blue moon though - nice timing.

Just the orb, the banter about the prophecy of the stars, that just had me thinking. I realize that the link is then, hence me not posting anything about it till your thread came up.

The only thing I'm certain of now is that this is definitely some kind of trailhead. For what, who knows for sure. I do wish he'd pick up the pace a little though.

I'm kinda just skimming games and not really dedicated anywhere because I don't have that sort of time, so forgive my randomness! Have you considered asking Colby for Christine's AIM? Say something like "Hey, I haven't seen Christine on lately, has she changed her name?" or "My buddy list crashed and I remembered yours from your blog but I can't remember Christine's"

Did a quick search on Christine Miffin and came up blank, a search for Colby Shaw came up with a lot of hits but have not found anything that I can really connect to this. Although there seems to be a lot of Colby Shaws who are interested in poetry.

First of all, don't pretend to speak for anyone other than yourself. Secondly, his post contributed a hell of a lot more than your rude, idiotic post did. You'd better take your own advice on this one and go find another game.

No, he wasn't. That's pretty clear. Nowhere in the post does he ever even imply that he's joking. So no, I won't be "on the calm".

Ok, seriously. How obvious do I have to be to make a joking, satirical post. I was kidding. Yeesh, if I'm too obvious, it stops being funny, but if I'm not obvious enough, people who don't recognize jokes will start jumping all over me.

Places where I implied I was joking:

Bold Capital Letters. Only an idiot would do that, and if they did, they certainly wouldn't revert to normal grammar.

Being nice and friendly after the harsh words. If I was trying to be insulting, I wouldn't then be kind.

Finally, the most obvious clue: I was ranting about someone spelling the word ditty. Seriously. You must have dealt with a lot of assholes in your time not to take that as a joke...

edit - jokes are funny not pejorative - fixed this one too. -- aliendial
