Acheron PM Chat - (what questions do you have?)

hey all.

We've had a number of requests to do a postgame PM chat.

We're tentatively scheduling it for this Thursday (2/19) at 10:30 PM Eastern in #acheron on Chat-Sol.

See you there.

yay!

congrats to all of you. what a fantastic achievement. i'm so so glad to have experienced it.

i'll try to be there if i can, but otherwise i hope that someone will post a log? (and please see my question in the 'review from the peanut gallery' thread. i'd be really interested in some chat about how the players influenced the game, other things we might have done, etc.)

thanks!

hugs, aiesha

For those who can't be at the chat, let's also use this thread to post questions you would like to see answered by the PMs. Post them in a reply; to keep things simple, if you think of something afterwards, just go back and edit your post to add the additions.

Also, is anyone just dying to moderate the chat? Smile

Be sure to read all the updates and sites so we don't cover information that's been covered previously. Yes, Jake was the bad guy, and Meg and Reggie are married. The Jake, Reggie, and Meg blogs all contain this information.

What I'd like to know is how much of the planned story was snipped out due to real life situations (the hiatus, the server crash)?

How hany puzzles that were hinted at did we not find?

Questions

How many am I allowed to post and can I ask more at the chat? and does that count as one? (or am I at two already, darn)

1. Please explain 1.jpg.

2. Please explain seek.jpg. (We know it was a warning, was it from John to Jake?)

3. My most important question: Please, please tell me why we never had the chance to chat with Becker, or set up a meaningful dialogue with him. I know my approches didn't work, but I feel we really needed some chance to verify Jake's story through Becker.

4. A general question: My basic sense of human nature and my life experiences is that people will tend toward saving another person, even if that person is known to be a bad person. I didn't vote at the end, but, unless I had known that Jake had killed John, I don't think I would have voted against him (I might even have been willing to let him get away with the triple homicide, but not sure about that.)

The question: were you surprised, did you think that people would vote to not send Jake back?
(What if the story were changed so we had to choose between saving one of two people? -this is spec, so you don't have to discuss if you don't want to.)

5. Meg and the baby. Another general question: for me this was tough to accept, why did you choose that ending, even as part of the "false" ending?

6. I tried to enlist some support for the idea of warning Becker about Jake, not enough to get Jake in real trouble, just that Jake might be trying to get access to classified info or something. I was not able to do that, but is that something you would have considered allowing into the story?

7. Was the story of John's experiences from the first timeline planted by Jake on inanimatereason.com? Or was that John's story? How did John know about that server? (this last question is prompted by stuff the technically competent players explained to me)

8. In the old timeline, what was the quantum physics article about?

9. Others have asked, so I will too, how did you think my relationship with Frank worked out with the story? I should add that my cue for this was his ad in the coyote dispatch about looking for a wild ride. As I said elsewhere, I was pleased at our last conversation as I felt we had developed a trusting companionship. (Please note that I won't take anything you have to say about this personally.)

10. One more general question: I enjoyed any part of the story that went beyond puzzles and superficial characterisations, which I know is very difficult to do. In particular, I enjoyed the dream Reggie had about the Nazca lines (which we never solved, so that may be another question), Frank admitting fear and Frank discussing philosophy with enaxor and me.
How do you bring the "deeper" meaning to the story? How do you get people to consider the meaning of reality when they are trying to solve difficult puzzles, usually sleep deprived, mentally fried, working under pressure from their real lifes, etc?
[ This is way OT, but one of my ideas about the general failure of the Matrix sequels is that they required a narrator to explain the philosphy of what Neo was experiencing, just watching it was not sufficient for people to"get it", unlike the first movie, where Morpheus was spelling alot of it out]

11. I know I wrote you a love letter already, but obviously this story and the people affected me in powerful ways, that I would never have expected when I first began this game as a lark (and only because I had to spend a lot of time at home.) I learned things about myself as well as some fun facts and got to meet some very interesting, smart and generous people. Thank you for giving me this.

Your true friend,
Rose

correction

I have to add another rule to my life: always log in
I can't correct it because I wasn't logged in but there is an error in my second question

It should read: "was this a warning from Jake to John" I had it backwards. Embarassed

That list is pretty comprehensive, so I don't think I will have more to ask at the chat, but who knows, with two more days to go.

EDITED to add new question.

I cannot wait for the chat! But just in case I miss it, here are my lingering questions -- admittedly not deep ones, but merely stuff that, well, lingered in my marble-laden head...

1) What the heck was SCAMPAT/H about? Did we solve it? Why did John/Reggie change the blinky to two parallel blinkies?

2) Why, when the timelines switched and John/Reggie was no longer a fruit loop, did he still go by the name "Reggie" on his blog?

3) Konamouse's doppelganger staggering into the police station. Was this just a red herring, or was there a subplot we didn't follow? (BTW, It was at this point when I started wondering if she was a PM plant. Actually I started doubting everybody at this point, even myself! Was I secretly a plant? Had I been secretly recruited by the at-this-point-unknown gray people and didn't even know it? Yes, paranoia will destroy ya!)

4) More importantly, were there any websites we didn't discover? Nuances of plot that went over our heads?

5) Something that seemed to blip by in the race to endgame, but kept worrying me: who the heck was Harker's 'insider'??? I was surprised that no one else appeared to take much interest in this person's identity, and maybe it wasn't important. But inquiring minds wanna know. I guess the obvious guess might be Katrina, but personally, I suspect Susan, LOL. (If Jim hadn't been fired, I'd have gone with him. Maybe his incompentence was an act! Very Happy) Were we supposed to find out?

6) Silly comment & question: All the "J" names in our major players confused me. James, John, Jake. Maybe it was the biblical theme of the puzzles that makes me wonder this, but was there some apostolic significance? With Jake as Judas?

7) Is playing with the timelines what caused DevilBaby and, presumably, armageddon to draw nigh? This could probably be answered by anyone with more brains than yours truly, so players please feel free to clue in the clueless!

8.) Was there any way to contact Turgenev/Dr. Z? What about Katrina? Were we supposed to try harder where she was concerned, or was she mere set-dressing?

9) Seraphim. Were they more than a nebulous Bad Guy group, or was there a way to find out more about them?

10) I have to second Aiesha's excellent question, probably the most important in the story: How could we have prevented Jake's win? What clues should we have picked up on earlier, and would we have been able to convince Harker/Becker/Baxter (more similar names!) in time to stop him?

11) As the old saying goes: Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts like a mo'fo. Was the power over time what pushed Jake over the edge, or was he always a creep?

12) What, if anything, surprised you? Were there puzzles that you thought were much harder that we* zipped through? Puzzles that turned out to be more vexing to the players than expected? Hints that you thought we'd pick up on? Possible ways to interact with side characters (Kat, Becker, Turgenev, hell maybe even Meg's dad) that we never explored?

New 13) Was there any significance to Becker's changing doctor names (from Rodslid to Brown) in his notes, or just a continuity glitch? Probably no big deal, but it's a curiosity that nagged at me.

That's all, I guess. I know I already expressed my gratitude in a long-winded version (the "If 'Tis Done" thread), so here I'll say merely: many, many thanks for one helluva fun ride.

-- Kira

* I use "we" in its broadest and most presumptuous sense, since I myself was utterly useless! Very Happy

Gone for a week and missed everything.

Questions that need clarification:
1) What is Silas Bodnick's password?
2) What is the greywethers login?

Thanks in advance.

Who was the woman who looked like the picture that I sent to Reggie?
Just something made up by the BTS person chatting as Caretaker?

one question

I know I wasn't here for very long (I joined the game during the last two weeks), but just for my own curiosity:

Can someone please explain SCAMPATH?

Even though the game is over - some of the things that Reggie wrote about are still driving me nuts.

Thanks again to all of the PM's for all of their work (even though I wasn't around long enough to appreciate all of it).

Excited to be a part of another experience like this,
me.
