[SPEC] [OOG(kind of)] Travel to African Coordinates? Hmmmm Let me start off by saying this is completely serious, and I am not a troll. Check my other posts, I'm legit.
I was sitting here watching the MS press conference twiddling my thumbs thinking about Iris when I started to ponder the significance of the Africa coordinates and the caves. I was thinking about the echolocation, the Ark, all that stuff, and I wondered whether Iris would require someone to venture there. My immediate response was no. No company in their right mind would require someone to spend thousands for a marketing campaign, let alone endanger potential customers and the possibility of lawsuits. I proceeded to come up with thousands of reasons why this would never, ever, EVER happen.
But what if it did? What if MS set up some massive race to the "ark"?
Wait.... That's dumb. Am I really that retarded? Come on Mack......
"But I want to go to those caves!!!!"....... Now I'm just acting like a little baby. All of my reason is thrown out the window. I must've been dropped on my head as a child....
"Please, I'm begging for an excuse to skip some school!!!!".....Someone shoot me. Please.
So, unforums members, would it be at all helpful[possibly later in the game] for me to travel to Africa? I have these dumb round-trip pass things that only make me pay 5% of the ticket price. I'd like to explore those caves. I'd like to help out the forum. I'd like to find an excuse to go. Oh wait, scratch the last one.
Comments? Concerns? Phone numbers for the local Psych Ward?

In my personal opinion, I'd kick myself if that were the case, and bungie has pulled the single biggest sunt I could ever imagine for a PR campaign.
But in truth, it is just a bit crazy to think that they'd go that that much of an extreme.
I do believe that if you WANT to go see the caves, enjoy. However I doubt you will find anything that wasn't already there. And if you do go, find nothing of what you were actually looking for, would you be more disapointed if that happened, or more disapointed that you didn't go.
The choice is yours, just remember, Africa can be a scary place.

Aren't those caves home to a relative of ebola?
That's not something I'd be exploring without a hazmat suit.

The cost required to have a presence in Africa for Bungie would be well outside justifiable costs. What would they do, send someone to draw on a wall? Stick a paper in a rock? I don't know if you've looked at travel brochures of the areas pointed out, but it's a pretty low level of civilization out there. As in, limited electricity, water, etc. Traditional living. Frontier-level. Disease. Wild animals. Lions.
Now you think about that. Ebola in caves. Free-roaming elephants. Freaking sleeping sickness in the mosquitoes. Do you think Bungie themselves will go there? No. It's all fictional. There's nothing in Africa. There's no giant alien stronghold in a crater, no glyphs scrawled on the rocks, no tribal leaders watching Forerunner ships do their business out on the mesa. All of that's in the ARG, which is emanating from Washington state. In the US. Not Africa.

Won't you be kicking yourself if MS/Bungie does hold some special event gathering (ala Zero Hour, or 'training events') in Voi or Mombasa

I'm crazy, not dumb. i have been there before, I don't need someone preaching the risks. i thought it would be interesting for someone to go there.

I'm having trouble seeing them get much attendance to that from their target demographic. Although, yeah, I'd have to eat my words on that one.

thinking back to Zero Hour, it got quite the attendance considering its market... people had to travel for that, though admittedly it was in the US. An event like that in Africa would be much more 'elitist'. But all the more special for those who could make it .
I was one who management to get in the limited registration for Zero Hour, but I couldn't travel to the event... a friend who went sent me a bit of swag from there.
Vanishing Point had a similar event at its end for the launch of Vista, but its attendance was less than expected, and it was in the US as well. It's not unlike MS to have a big final shebang type deal, but yeah, doing one in Africa seems a little excessive
