Then go to http://www.whalesounds.com/home/index.html and listen to "Warbling" and "Groaning".

Sounds similar. Also Slusho! does mention Whales in it's history.

I'm convinced. What on earth is a whale doing in NY???

That's easy, he is killing miss liberty

From someones blogger:

Quote:
f you "ping" TritonEnterprises.net (owner of EthanHaasWasRight,) it pings back to 208.109.78.10
If you ping BadRobot.com, it pings back to 208.109.78.139.

Does this mean that the two websites are from the same Subnet and are therefore connected??

Yikes, listen to "keening" as well. It sounds JUST LIKE the supposed "female-sounding voice" everyone keeps hearing at the beginning of the first roar. A bit higher pitched, but the similarity is definitely there. I'd say that yes, the creature's sounds were at the very least inspired by whalesong.

Edit: "Trumpeting" sounds a bit familiar too.

It's Alive

Something occurred to me about the guy saying "It's alive, it's huge!". Why would he say "it's alive" in the first place? Wouldn't this indicate that what ever he's talking about was previously thought to be dead or inanimate?

I guess it just seems weird to me that he would mention the fact that something was alive, unless he didn't think it should be.

No! it just means that they both are hosted on one of the biggest domain registry services and web hosting companies for budget-minded people.

I think they will find a giant statue and take it to NY NY and it comes to life and causes carnage.

Let's put it in context: you hear trumpeting, thunderous roaring sounds, see big fireballing explosions, and you might jump to the conclusion it could be another terrorist attack - you know, using planes or a missile. Your curiosity piques, you get as close to the epicenter as you can to see what caused it (a la War of the Worlds, where everyone congregates on a crater caused by mysterious lightning, right before the giant robotic killing machine emerges from underneath it) where you see this "Thing", moving towards you that you can't make out clearly, but you can tell it's moving and not by mechanical means; and since it's coming your way really fast you're going to run from it.

As you're running away in terror, some girl asks you if it's coming this way (No, we're actually running towards it because it's a giant Stay-Puft marshmallow man and we're all going to eat it.) You're not going to stop and tell the whole story, as doing so would likely get you crushed by a large SOL head. You're going to sum it up in a few words as possible; "I saw it! It's alive, and it's huge!" so people know that a big, alive thing is coming towards them. Run.

some research

Pygmy whales-aka "the littlest whale"(s) produce this substance called ambergris.
Quote:
Ambergris (Ambra grisea, Ambre gris, ambergrease, or grey amber) is a solid, waxy, flammable substance of a dull grey or blackish color, with the shades being variegated like marble. It possesses a peculiar sweet, earthy odor similar to isopropyl alcohol. Now largely replaced by synthetics, it is occasionally still used as a fixative in perfumery.

Ambergris was also molded, dried, decorated and worn as jewellery, particularly during the Renaissance. It was often formed into beads.

Quote:
Ambergris occurs as a biliary secretion of the intestines of the sperm whale, and can be found floating upon the sea, or in the sand near the coast. Because giant squids' beaks have been found embedded within lumps of ambergris, scientists have theorized that the whale's intestine produces the substance as a means of facilitating the passage of hard, sharp objects that the whale might have inadvertently eaten. Ambergris can be found in the Atlantic Ocean; on the coasts of Brazil and Madagascar; also on the coast of Africa, of the East Indies, The Maldives, mainland China, Japan, India, Australia, New Zealand and the Molucca islands. However, most commercially collected ambergris came from the Bahama Islands, Providence Island, etc. It is also sometimes found in the abdomens of whales.

Look, if I saw something huge that I didn't recognize, and I wanted to warn people of it, I would definitely say: "It's alive! and it's huge!". The two most important things to know if you want to stay alive.

Exactly. I wouldn't think of it as being a giant monster if I was running away from it. I would think it would be a terriost attack of a nuke or something. Not a giant monster, exspecially if I'm running from it and not able to see it was a monster.

I agree, it makes complete sense. Still, we need to adress the fact that we have been pointed to the "Its alive, its huge" as being a clue of sorts. So if the alive-part is pointing out the obvious and does not necessarily suggest it used to be inanimate, can the huge-part possibly suggest something that isnt that obvious after all?

I mean, mebi there's something more to "huge" than just King Kong-big, you know?

That was my initial response to the trailer. Especially after hearing the first roar. Being a sound engineering student, I listen to these sounds with a more scholarly approach. That roar sounds like it's a MASSIVE sound coming from REALLY far away. That made me think that this thing is ENORMOUS and also very very fast (from way out in the ocean, to the SOL, to Tribeca in minutes). This would fit in with the "It's huge" being en emphasis on the fact that this monster is going to be REALLY big.
