Okay back to something more realistic, I was checking out gardens of the sea (for Japan) and apparently they dig seaweed for lots of stuff, including various dishes. Possible that the ingredient was seaweed afterall, but that doesn't quite work with the description of the mystery ingredient.

There was an article i read yesterday that had a quote from someone that was either close to abrams or had some kind of limited knowledge of what he was working on and refered to it as "the sea monster thing". i wish i could find that article now, but my theory for now is something cthulhu-ish, even if the site that originally mentioned cthulhu has been debunked. also, i'm thinking that whatever it was had to come from the water. if it was on land i think they would of heard it sooner, and it obviously is near the statue of liberty.

i'm also getting a vibe that "rob's awesome" girl is the close friend that has feelings towards him that shes trying not to entertain. which will probably be part of the story line.

I'm with you on that one. She's the one herding the party-goers, getting them ready to yell surprise in the very beginning of the trailer. She seems like the most emotionally involved.

To me it looks like the reactions are pretty appropriate for panic. Rob and girl 1's reactions are fine. Rob is cool under pressure, he sees the smoke and dibris and instead of turning his back on it is watching for danger. He sees the statue head and moves himself and girl 1 out of the way...

I don't think Rob will be the root cause of all evil. I believe we are simply following him through that part of the story, similar to shaun of the dead. We aren't seeing the heros blasting godzilla to bits. Instead we are seeing the little ants running down the street in the background of the dramatic helicopter scene. I dig it!

As far as what the monster is i think there is a very real possability that we won't ever find out what it was or that if we do it will be when Rob and crew ducks into a bar after the attacker is dead and sees dramatic helicopter footage on the news.

I *hope* it's not a religious end of the world movie. That would be dissapointing.

I also hope it's not aliens. It's all been done, even the everyman point of view. WOTW and Signs...

I want it to be a love craft monster, or a WWIII movie or even something orwellian. It doens't have to be totally new but it would be nice if it wasn't a rehash of something recent.

Oh and one more thing. Has anyone explored the Tremors angle? The guy does say that on the roof.

Ya, and she's easy on the eyes too. I hope she is a main character.

Tremors as in earthquake, not tremors as in the movies where the first one was awesome and got gradually worse. It'd be something amazing to revamp the Tremors franchise from Tremors 4 to what you saw in the trailer.

Another thought

I posted this over on the Slusho thread and thought I'd throw it in here, also. Someone said that "you can't drink just six!" was an anagram of "a toxic industry's junk." And it got me thinking.

What if WE are "the Parasite" and we created this monster through our pollution? Hm!

I can't figure how Slusho history could work exactly into that idea, but with the hints about the water, maybe dumping in the water has something to do with it?

And to me the SOL head scene is not just of a monster that is blowing stuff up, but one that is PISSED at New York, and at America specifically because it's such a symbolic representation of everything we (are supposed to) stand for. So, maybe it's.. one animal that got crazy huge from the toxic stuff we dumped? Lots of animals fused together to form one huge monster (stretching I think)? Or maybe something ancient in the water that has come awake due to our actions?

I also like the idea that maybe "Slusho" is taking something from the water, and whatever it is has made something want to come get it back. It reminds me of that Futurama episode where they discover popplers, eat Billions of popplers, only to find out that they were alien children and the aliens want revenge.

I think that the kiddie 'front' of Slusho is covering up something a lot darker and that Rob knows what's going on.

I'd be terribly disappointed if that were the case.

I think the theory sounds great. And that "You can't drink just Six" is this anagram, sounds really good even.

Maybe Slusho is the reason, why this Monster exists. What if, Slusho is pumping some of there secret ingredient in the sea and this Monster is a mutation of a normal fish or something else.

How would that work, when the secret ingredient comes out of the sea to begin with?

slusho says, they had to serve it in a near-frozen state to preserfe its freshness.

Jeah, the temperature at the News were a bit higher as normal. Maybe they weren't managing to hold this near-frozen state.

I would bet that the odd temperature was intentional and that it is significant in some way. I don't think it could pass by the producers, directors, prop guys, etc without someone going "Wait, 63 is low for NY in Jan! We need to fix that." Which means they meant us to see it.

I swear I won't post again until someone else does, but.. heh

"Parasite" could also refer to something in what we dumped that attached itself to a sea creature and caused it to mutate.

Supposedly the title will be released during the San Diego comic-con which is July 25-29 so I'm sure we'll know a lot more then.

Moriarity posted this in the talkback section of aicn:

"... this is not a VOLTRON film. This is not a C'thulu film. This is not a remake of someone else's property. It's an original idea that Abrams sold to Paramount last year. Drew Goddard is writing it. The VOLTRON project that Justin Marks is writing is still moving forward. They are not related. I'm not speculating, either. I'm telling you that's exactly how it is, and if you spend the next six months invested in this being VOLTRON and then complain because it's not, you'll have no one to blame but yourself. You're delusional. And there's no reason for it, since you'll get a VOLTRON movie... this just isn't it."

My best guess is still a Lovecraft-inspired horror a la Hellboy.
