BUMPED: PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE WOMAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN

THEY CALL ME PASTABAGEL

Well, well, well, look who we have here. I was all but certain Magesteff was a PM, but not addlepated or the others. That's why I stopped playing - too much community manipulation. What tipped me off?

Magesteff's personal page (linked to off the profile for her login). It identifies her as maintaining the FAQ for alt.sleep.disorders. And what befell the characters in the game? They couldn't sleep. That's why I asked meg in my email to her whether jake had trouble sleeping. It's seemed to be at once a really big deal (they kept mentioning it) but never really led to a clue.

It was a fun game though, and I can't imagine how much prep and work went into it. You should all be very proud.

And now, what you've all been waiting for.

The Ultimate Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Have you ever noticed how homemade cookies get hard just a day or two after you bake them?

Idea Here's a tip from the PastaBagel Kitchen:

Put a slice of ordinary bread into the jar or tin with the cookies. You'll find that the moisture in the bread fills the jar, keeping your cookies tasting fresh. When the bread gets dry, just replace it!

Now all your friends will just rave over your cookies!! (But your secret's safe with us!! ))

COOKING TIPS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE PASTABAGEL HEAVY MANUFACTURING & MINING CORPORATION AND ITS WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARIES TICKLE BUNNY! THE BUNNY WHO LOVES TO GIGGLE AND BANG-SEXXXO PORN TRAFFICKING CO. LTD.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. SHARE AND ENJOY.

So, what game should we play next? Spin the bottle?

I'd like to address this.

First, I don't know of any community manipulation. Mage and I were not PMs. We were both BTS. Meaning we did not have anything to do with puzzle making, plot formation, etc. Both of us stepped up to help when there were some major issues with the game happening and we didn't want to see it go under. She wrote some articles. I took over a character and did some graphics work. Thinking that either or us was responsible for any underhanded developments in the game is as off-base as saying that 1and1.com had something to do with it because they provided hosting. Neither one of us ever did anything to influence the plot, the characters, or the solves. To quote Sin_Vraal, "I am not a shill!"

Surely you've had problems sleeping when there's been upheaval in your life? Sleep apnea (Mage's condition) is normally not caused by stress. Insomnia is. When I'm worried, I don't sleep. That's why I put it into Meg's blog. It's pretty common. Mage had nothing to do with any sleep-related plotlines.

I'm sorry that you think we had something to do with your enjoyment of the game, but in the end I think the responsibility for enjoying this or any game lies within oneself.

DO YOU SEE?

PASTABAGEL IS FALSE.

THE SECRETS ARE UNDETERMINED. BUT THEY MUST BE REVEALED.

Um... yeah, what she said. In fact the comment made to me by Bill was along the lines of "Just trying to figure out what you can do without giving away too much plot..." and I had to poke him a good bit just to get that, but I would have stepped down as a player and moved behind the curtain if needed, and have been just as sneaky about that as I was in buying lunch in Orlando. I still cannot believe that out of 11 other people didn't notice me going to talk to the waitress and pay her. I was not asked to do that, at that point I was a free agent, acting on my own initiative. I did it because I thought it would be "cool." It was and a good lesson in observation.

I had to bite my tongue the whole time people were discussing the documents I created. You have no idea how much I wanted to scream "Dude, maybe the lowered and raised letters were from a really old manual typewriter." But I couldn't. The letters I missed giving the treatment were just that, missed. But I watched as people tried to figure out what the puzzle was, and I had to keep my big mouth shut.

Pastabagel, I specifically stayed out of the discussion on those pages. The rest of Acheron I was the same as all the other players. I had no idea Addlepated had taken over Meg. Shocked I had no idea Danman_d, Scarpegrosse (Scrappy if I mispelled I will correct later....), or Gupfee were involved. Learning that Bill was involved I did on my own with information that others could have found long before I did. After the server crash I decided that if I was going to complain about it, I dem well better be offering to be part of the solution to the problem. My part was a lot smaller than I was expecting it to be, but then I don't have the web skills others have, I am strictly a plug results into a template kind of web page maker.

So, did I manipulate the game. You betcha Exclamation But only to give the real PM's one of many incentives to finish the ARG, and not let it go into meltdown. If that is manipulating, I would do it again in a microsecond.

However, I think many people would agree, seeing a "Successfully Completed" under the name is a lot better than "Meltdown."

Now if we could just figure out who you are... I may discover that yet without needing a hit from a big cluestick... Very Happy

A HA!!!

THEY CALL ME PASTABAGEL. WHAT'S PUZZLING YOU?

I didn't mean to imply anything sinister with my "community manipulation" statement, I just meant that, because I thought Magesteff was a PM (and PM to me means anyone involved in the game behind the scenes, I don't know what a BTS is) and because she was posting so heavily in the forums, it seemd that the people making the game were directing where the players were going. It was fun though.

Now on to more serious business. The business of my defenestrated pants.

PLEASED TO MEET YOU, WON'T YOU GUESS MY NAME?

I figured it out!

Gingerbreadman is the Organization of American States!

I KNEW IT!!!!

THEY CALL ME PASTABAGEL AND THE PRECEDING WAS BROUGHT TO YOU BY A GRANT FROM THE PEW CHARITABLE TRUSTS.

I guess what's puzzling me is the nature of PB's game. Ooo, who, who. Wink

Absurd

Reminds me a bit of the Edge Yourself site.

Pastabagel:

First of all, I hope you enjoyed the parts of the game you did play, it was a lot of fun on all the PM's part bringing it to you and everyone else! Very Happy

Secondly, charges of "community manipulation" or whatever you'd like to call it are completely absurd. The PM team did our absolute best NOT to guide the players in any direction. I mean, honestly, ponder the idea for a second: Why would we want to do this? It kind of completely goes against the idea of ARG'ing, and we have so many cooler ways to present hints in an ingame manner. Shills get ripped apart in seconds in this forum, there is no reason why we'd want to go down in ARG history as a group of hated shills.

BTS, or behind the scenes, is a classification given to PM's who have little involvement in plot or storyline activities, but instead help out with a few materials or items on the side. Magesteff wrote articles and a police report when given a subject, and did not know how what she did tied into the greater plotline any more than the other players. Steff no doubt wouldn't have wanted to guide players in any direction, but in addition, she could not have done so, as she didn't know enough to! So, please, in the future, don't make accusations like this unless you have the evidence to back up your claim. "Community manipulation" and PM nudging, simply put, did not occur!

Finally, there is a place for everything, including randomly worded nonsensical posts. That place is Redkore. Laughing

But Dan if we removed all the nonsensical stuff, we'd be missing about 75% of the material we need to go through to reach a solve. Barring Grumpyboy getting hold of the puzzle first. Wink
