Help me out here, folks. I need more brains than mine on this bunch of thoughts.

Thought 4: What is that fireball thing, anyhow? Notice that you don't hear an explosion before we turn toward the ball of fire. We hear a short bang or a dry splat then a crackling sound, like a very hot fire expanding. No explosion. No stomping around.

Thought 5: Speaking of "no stomping around", why does only the first roar come with any sort of tremors? A big monster moving anywhere on land should induce some sort of shaking, especially if it's "huge" enough to be seen from the roof. We don't get any more tremors through the second and third roar, which we have believed happen closer to the camera. W don't even feel the impact of large buildings getting knocked over, which is likely to happen if a huge monster stomps through Manhattan.

You know, I wonder if we're looking at the wrong giant-monster for examples of what might physically happen.

Maybe instead of Godzilla, we should be considering Mothra...

The creature is called a parasite. If it's emerging from underground, it could be in a larval form, like a worm or a caterpillar. Another thread off this site suggested that the sounds of the shrieking were actually sewer pipes bursting underground- perhaps that would explain why the shaking only happened the first time, and as the creature was moving, the tremors wouldn't be felt in the building again?

And... totally bad timing.. a HUGE thunderstorm just started outside as I was typing this, with a BANG to match... scared the CRAP out of me!!

You mention that it could be a worm of some sort. I thought the same thing when i though of "parasite" I took the smoke street photo, shot the brightness down, and pumped the contrast up and found this in the pic, which isnt visible in the original photo:

Don't know what it is...A giant worms tail maybe haha? who knows, i just figured id try it out... what does everyone think??[/img]

Some debris in smoke.

I was wondering about something...and I didn't read every post so I apologize if this has already been discussed. In relation to Ethan Haas and "Cloverfield."

imdb.com released a few actors and actresses who are in the movie. One actress is Lizzy Caplan. She was a character from "The Class."

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0135221/

The actor Jason Ritter plays a character in The Class as well, and his characters name is Ethan Haas... Here is the page for the class on imdb.com scroll down to look and the cast and characters, and you'll see..

JJ Abrams obviously already said that ethanhaaswasright.com had nothing to do with the movie. But isn't this a little strange?

Coincidence?

Ethas Hass has already been attributed to a video game unrelated to this.

And you're playing Six Degrees now, almost guaranteed to make some sort of connection between any two completely random people.

And please, take this to the big thread, this one is for trailer and the picture analysis.

My first thought as well. Perfect opportunity to place a puzzle. Personally, the lack of puzzles in this thing has me leaning away from ARG...for now.

Heh.

Using these letters: IATERSHOB

You can get...I HATES ROB

Or...ROB IS HATE

Very Happy

EDIT: Okay, slightly more seriously, you also get ROB ATE HIS

Anyone add in the letters from the other set of text? the FROM PRODUCER J.J. ABRAMS? The ducer is the dimmer part. You can see it at 1:43 of the hi-def trailer.

just a thought

echo "Hallo Welt"
Unusual, at the very least. Rearticulating splines as we speak.

I don't think this is that weird if someone was just messing around with a domain they bought or something. It just means "Hello World" in German. Also, as someone pointed out, the site is pretty old.

also: I don't know about the dimmed and brightened letters in the title cards. That might be reading too much into it: that's a pretty common "oooh spooky monster movie!" font effect, and there isn't much difference between the dimmed and brightened letters.

Well, I've noticed a lot of people are going for the Christian impending doom feeling of the number six, but has nobody looked at the Japanese side of numbers?

I looked up some number superstitions of the Japanese. 4 and 9 are both very bad numbers considering that the words for them sound like something else.

the word for 4 (shi) is the same word for "death".
the word for 9 (ku) is the same word for "pain".

Rob is being "fed" the libation at 12:01. 1+2+0+1=4
We all see the significance of 63 or 36. 6+3=9
And in the party pic, the number on creepy girl's shirt is seen as 9 or 6...
1-18-08 has a set of two nines... 1+8=9, 1+0+8=9 (that one is a stretch)

I've been driven crazy by all this and I am glad there is a place such as unfiction that helps me cope with insanity!

First, looking at this image, in the upper left hand corner you will notice the large gaps in the brickwork, not all uncommon with older buildings.

Next, lets look at when the camera pans across the banner here. Notice the desk lamp, notice how bright the S's are in miss.

Now let's look at the party pic on the site. You can find that here with some labels.

To me, the 'creepy girl', is just a guy (or girl) looking over their right shoulder at Rob n Co, from this angle you cannot see their shirt, due to the fact that rob's elbow is obstructing the view. Furthermore the '6/9 shirt' is just the overexposed brickwork from said desklamp which has been moved from the second picture. Notice how the S's are clearly more illuminated from a light source that is most likely a desklamp pointed at the wall.

I'm sorry if this doesn't make much sense, but I've spent the last couple of days just catching up.

I've been watching the trailer over and over, and this part of the trailer caught my eye. If you look at the first pic on 1-18-08.com, the girl on the left hand side shares the same expression, the streetlight behind them proves their outside. I believe that Tinag was already thinking about this, and stated that the right side girl doesn't appear in the trailer, I think this is because she is really off camera.

Significance? Well, the picture has a timestamp, which gives us a relatively rough guess of time during the ending part of the trailer. It's already been stated that the line "I saw it, it's huge, it's alive!" is important, and this only puts it in the relative timeframe of around 12:35-12:36 in the morning.

I just hopes this helps, because this whole thing is bugging the hell outta me.

Wow, you are so right. Check out this pic taken of the sign DURING a camera flash so it is illuminated very well, even then, the brick story rings true...

AND I think you can see a bit of her neck past ROB's shoulder. Interesting. Previously I had thought the party picture to be the most important, but with this new information perhaps the "9/6" was just a mistake. For ONE, just look at the party Rob enters, it is a very manhattan affair, high class. NO T-SHIRTS.

The brick awnser is excellent and closes up some pointless looping.

the 'shirt' you reference in the 'tagged' picture (http://bayimg.com/fADGHAaBp) is actually rob's elbow. and the '9' (or 8 or 6) is DEFINITELY NOT bricks. if it were, you'd see white coming from the top-left of the '9'. the lines are too think, even for 'over-exposed' brick. plus your 'no t-shirts' observation is proved wrong by the SLUSHO! shirt in the same picture. honestly i applaud your effort, but i disagree with your findings.

Are you forgetting that the most important shirt at the party IS a T-shirt? (Yeah, so he's wearing a dress shirt over the top of it, so what?)

SLUSHO ZOOM!!!
