Whoa, that Korean movie poster looks neato. o_o

I saw a preview for D-Wars in theaters the day before I left Korea, and it was pretty sweet. They're really hyping it up too, cause I saw a bunch of posters and stuff in the subway on my way to the theater. Back on topic though, I really hope whatever is causing all that chaos in 1-18-08 isn't any type of sea creature, it just doesn't strike me as that type of movie....

If it was Gamera I'd be so happy. Haha.
You and me both! I love TurtleIsland!

I'd rather it be Master Shake from ATHF.
I don't know... the thought of a giant TURTLE wreaking havoc on NYC... just seems.... dumb....
and kind of a cheap knock-off of Godzilla (although I realize it's not, so save your typing).

I suppose I just have faith that JJ Abrams is more inventive, and would create something at least relatively new.
Noo I thought it would be a giant snake like thing as his Smoke Monster behaves like a ghostly snake.

We're talking about the New York skyline, here! When we look back at most of the movie monsters of the past, (King Kong climbing the Empire State Building, Godzilla smashing a tank, ETC...) These monsters are STILL within the realm of being able to go UNSEEN within the New York. Let's just say that, for the sake of argument, the impression left on the SOL head is IN FACT a handprint, rather than damage from being thrown....(This would be the impression Producers would try to create, when doing a "Trailer".) How BIG would that creature HAVE TO BE??? I haven't "Crunched the Numbers" yet, but on first impression, IT would stilll be able to go UNSEEN by the naked eye in the New York Skyline.
Physical Characteristics
There are 354 steps inside the statue and its pedestal. There are 25 windows in the crown which comprise the jewels beneath the seven rays of the diadem. The tablet which the Statue holds in her left hand reads, in Roman numerals, "July 4, 1776" the day of America's independence from Britain.

The Statue of Liberty was engineered to withstand heavy winds. Winds of 50 miles per hour cause the Statue to sway 3 inches (7.62 cm) and the torch to sway 5 inches (12.7 cm). This allows the Statue to move rather than break in high [wind load] conditions.

Feature Imperial Metric
Height from base to torch 151' 1" 46.50m
Foundation of pedestal to torch 305' 1" 92.99m
Heel to top of head 111' 1" 33.86m
Length of hand 16' 5" 5.00m
index finger 8' 0" 2.44m
Circumference at second joint 3' 6" 1.07m
Size of fingernail 13"x10" 32x25.4cm
Head from chin to cranium 17' 3" 5.26m
Head thickness from ear to ear 10' 0" 3.05m
Distance across the eye 2' 6" 0.76m
Length of nose 4' 6" l.48m
Right arm length 42' 0" 12.80m
Right arm greatest thickness 12' 0" 3.66m
Thickness of waist 35' 0" 10.67m
Width of mouth 3' 0" 0.91m
Tablet, length 23' 7" 7.19m
Tablet, width 13' 7" 4.14m
Tablet, thickness 2' 0" 0.61m
Height of granite pedestal 89' 0" 27.13m
Height of foundation 65' 0" 19.81m
Weight of copper used in Statue 200,000 pounds 100 tons
Weight of steel used in Statue 250,000 pounds 125 tons
Total weight used in Statue 450,000 pounds 225 tons
Copper sheeting of Statue is 3/32 of an inch thick 2.37mm

It Came from the Deep
Grave Likelihoods

It's almost too likely the creature is going to be water based to some degree. Just look at this entire thing overall. Talk of whales, whale song, drinking, an attack on liberty island...

Whatever it is it started in the water and made it's way to the land. Unless it started from somewhere in the city swam out to liberty island ate it and then swam back caused an obscene super massive explosion and then curve balled the head of the Statue of Liberty...

I mean... maybe... but probably not...

Size
Possibilities

After a little research,(And a little discussion among friends! Smile) I've come to the conclusion that the monster would need to be around 600' tall in order to do that kind of damage. This puts Its stride WAY SHORT of whats needed to make the kind of impact in the media. BUT, if you look at it from the other direction, the New York skyline COULD disguise a creature more than 1500' TALL! I'm not sure if the MASS of a creature that large would create earthquakes, yet. ( I haven't found a conversion, yet!) but, It's still PRETTY DAMN BIG!!!

AND, it STILL doesn't advance the game, if there is one!!!! Smile

Not to start another speculation, but Godzilla had footsteps heard at a distance, and I believe he was smaller than that. So did a T-Rex.

Of course, that depends a lot on the terrain; hell, here in Florida, where I can dig five feet in to the ground and get water, I can feel the ground shake from blast mining ten miles away.

And aren't the larger buildings, those that can "disguise a creature more tan 1500' tall", uptown? The only two buildings near that could have hidden such a creature... well, not to be blunt, but they aren't there anymore.

And the creature must either swim or fly, that's a given. There's a hell of a lot of water to cover between Liberty Island and Battery Park (1.7 miles, according to Google Maps).

my 2cents is this, size doesn't have to be relevent to damage delt, look at ants and the amount of weight they can move, what 4x their weight or so.

TRUE, but its no longer an amount of distance but, a matter of depth! A creature covering THAT MUCH GROUND in one stride, wouldn't be worried, so much about distance as it would be about how deep the bay is!!!

I'm considering giving up this line of thought, only because it isn't helping the ARG!

Shouldn't we be concerned with the recent article describing that it's an alien attack on New York, not some sea beast?

in the trailer at the 00:47 marker on the wall there is what appears to be two snowboards (not positive though) and possibly a map, one of the 'snow boards,' read AKM, go go acronym researchers.

Hey, if the Ghostbusters can walk the Statue of Liberty across the bay, it can't be more than 100' deep.

Not that I put much weight on revelations reinforced by Ghostbusters II: The Travesty...

Don't have much faith in what the crew might have told a carnie. Hell, they told the actors during the teaser shoot to imagine a giant foot, didn't they?
