Thanks, zizka. That clarified things.

Petal's security situation seems to demand a waiting game. The rapidity with which OIS has escalated their operations, particularly the two mysterious deaths, seems to demand we make an effort to have Petal contact us sooner than later.

Somewhere on the Overwatch site it said the timeframe for new evidence would be 5-7 days during the prelude and 10-14 thereafter.


What I see at autoreromanzo looks like a spam site now.

Edit: Found the site I was getting before. It's amigos.com. They also have a site for Italians. Also: might not be work safe.

Probably completely unrelated.

Further edit: deleted the .html versions to take up less server space. Either open the .txt files and save them as .html, or visit the websites.

It would seem that T.thorn wants and explaination from Allentown about what we think the A.portman letter was about.
It makes me wonder if T.thorn is t.petal and has heard about the A.portman image. It also makes me wonder if T.thorn is Pete and wants to know what we think the image means.
Then again it could be that Green was informed of the image and wants our take on it.

The whole thing just seems like a bad idea.
Us figuring out what the image means would be good. (one coherent theory)
However I don't think posting it to librarything.com is such a good idea.

Just my take on things though.

I have come across alot of FRACTAL art. I wonder if this could be connected to stolen art - setting up a Gallery - something like that?

Visage could definitely be a name of a gallery. The new location on the map doesn't show a gallery does it? (im too lazy to look)

Maybe we should set up a funeral home....at this rate. (but I have my doubts that AP is really dead)

There are tons of fractal art on the net. But I think FRACTAL is a project, probably named that way as a reference to the definition of a fractal. I posted that earlier in this thread.

Regarding that, this reminded me a lot of fractals:

Now, that's odd. Because I took the latest post on HIAS as a clue - keeping in mind what Coffeebean mentioned about calyx=kidneys - that t.calyx is a fake, because the "kidneys are a hoax", you see?
Kind of like the first article seemed to address the situation among us vs. traitors at that time.
Nobody else thinking that?

If t.calyx is legit, this would mean, t.thorn is either a impostor or it's the second identity of t.petal on LibraryThing.
But if you think about it, not both can be real, right? T.petal wouldn't want us to get even more confused? And on meta terms, if it was simply a slip-up, the account could be deleted and that's that.

In fact, that wouldn't be much of a twist at this point.
I mean, think about it, what better way to ensure people are trustworthy than to test if they do what you tell them, while pretending you are someone else. In effect just sending messages from yourself to yourself.

There's something sinister about Thorns, and it's a much more likely name for an imposter to choose than "calyx." I'm not sure they're not *both* him, but if one's fake, my money's on Thorn being the imposter. We'll need to establish someway for petal to prove his identity. In the mean time, if he wants to know what we think the message meant, we can be honest-ish about it: We have no idea. I just read the new post in the LT group, and I think I'm just seeing what I want to see, but it strikes me that Thorn is discrediting Allen's report:

 		I read t.thorn's latest post again and I think if this is an imposter he has done his homework quite well. I don't know why he created two accounts for himself, but I'd say this one is for real.
But the nature of this game turns this into something else...I'm not even sure what is expected of us.

Only pointer I see is HIAS, because it seems to communicate what is real and what is not and what is going on. But maybe I'm seeing things / interpreting the wrong way, too.
This has me very confused, I have to admit. After more than one year break from ARGs I step right into one that plays cloak and dagger...probably the wrong way to get the foot back in the game.

The pics of what is assumed to be Allen surfaced last night around 5 ish EDT. Basically, we sent the message to the people, got an email the next day (yesterday) about noon, and a few hours later, we got the pic of Allen.

The mentioned novels are really only refererenced; you don't need to have read them. I've seen a few confused faces in the last day and will try to get everything together to cathc everyone up. When I do, I think I'll start at the second T.Petal conversation on skype, or immediately before.

Where is this picture of Allen? When did the message get decoded?

I'm in agreement that FRACTAL is a project and not a specific reference to anything else. It's certainly an indication that the project has subcomponents similar to the whole but smaller in scope.

PC11: One possibility is that tcalyx's new addition to the google map timeline is the new collateral. While face-recognition software might not be part of the spy program we're monitoring, he's already told us that "augmented humint" is (i.e. implanted mics). If the map location and not an audio file is the collateral, then petal's telling us that OIS is spying on other parts of the government. In this case, the FBI.

The Promis story had ties to Hanssen acting as a double-agent for the USSR while he was at the CIA FBI. He sold the Promis software to the USSR. The relevant connection: what if OIS is slipping moles into other parts of the government? Thalberg wouldn't have to communicate directly with handlers or use drop sites because they're already getting a direct audio feed.

To what end is one part of the government spying on the other?

Abraxas: I wouldn't ordinarily spoiler meta-discussion. I did so because I was posting information provided by the PMs OOG.

gott_sei_dank: the detective stories are only leading to speculation about backstory. Only the references to works by Edgar Allen Poe and Evelyn Waugh have led to puzzle solutions. And we're not sure what to do about the information based on Waugh.

seifer: The message was decoded Monday. Cleartext was sent to Germain that night. Yesterday he responded to the cleartext by sending a password for his site. He also posted the picture of Allen on his site at that time.

Edit: The content of thorn's post was incredibly petal-esqu, if heavy-handed. Like Abraxas said, if it's an impostor, then all the homework was done; every note was hit. Including skepticism about the scope of what Allen uncovered, as well as references to fractals (menger sponge, mirrored beast), Rosicrucians (cosmic law), Promis (unseen forces monitoring kings and princes), monsters (osprey).

This still strikes me as the genuine site. Thorn went out of the way to recognize friends that joined the group, e.g. Perf and surfzone. If this thread hadn't sprung a leak, there'd be no doubt.

So I left a message showing interest in the manuscript and referring to raptors (birds of prey) but questioning its origin.

Get what you can in ghosttown. 2 more days max.. There is unlikely to be much re: the 'suicide', but there may be info re: AP's activities while there. Be sure no one is ghosting you. G

1: Multiple possible meanings. Glascoe is an old Scottish family name. Can be used to describe a resident of Glasgow (although the normal term nowadays is Glaswegian, I believe). Glascoe has an alternate spelling of Glasgow.

2: Imagine J2 is another one of Germain's contacts. T=Tristan. Don't recall any further identifying details.

3: Dunno. But the body was found in a county in Wyoming (Natrona). Ghost could be a synonym for spy/spook. Spook, WY is in Converse County, which seems to be adjacent to Natrona County. Spook is a Dept. of Energy disposal site. Spook is 32 miles North and 60 miles East of Natrona, Wyoming.

There are 4 ghost towns in Natrona County: Hiland in the West, Lavoye in the North, Bessemer Bend in the East, and Eadsville also in the East.

Edit: I'm an idiot. Casper, WY is in Natrona County. Casper is the friendly ghost... Casper is the county seat. Only city in the county. Second largest in the state, trailing only Cheyenne, the capital. It's experiencing lots of growth. Seems to be a somewhat popular business hub among American small cities. Casper is attracting lots of banks (banks seem to use the Promis software). An unincorporated part of the city is Allendale.

Apropos of nothing: Wyoming has been a source for quite a bit of uranium, oil, and coal in the last few decades. And the Spook DOE disposal site for uranium is 30 miles north and 25 East of Casper.
