Question....

Hello again! I just have a quick question since I am new to ARG's. Is it common to have to download a messenger service to play?

Thanks in advance!

The fact that photo is fake, unrelated, and crap, so it doesn't need to be discussed.

What's with the hostile

and so early in the day

Not like we've spent 223 pages talking about it

Abrams and crew need to add another pic to 1-18-08.com, if not for anything but to give us something to chew on until comicon. It doesn't even have to have any relevance to the movie, just something mysterious.

Like a jar of pickles. It could be taken the day before just to make sure the camera was working for the big party. We could easily spend the next week trying to figure out what brand of pickles, how many pickles are in the jar, if the pickles are dill or sweet, if they're whole or sliced, how they're sliced and the relevance of that, visit the pickle company's website looking for hidden clues, discuss the prospects of a pickle monster, watch gamejackers photoshop new pictures involving people eating pickles on Slusho sets in new york, argue over a Pickle-flavored Slusho, converse over the idea of pickling a giant parasite monster in order to stop it from getting bigger, pickle ourselves in the east river...

And actually, I think it's probably common practice to use instant messenger service, since it would be less costly to use than toll free numbers (like The Beast) and would allow you to make promotional deals with the service provider. However, I can't think of any that do use IM offhand.

its never required to play- it might be required to converse with an ARG character- if that is ever the case if you elected not to get an IM service- ot the particular service that that character uses- you would have to get the clues that come from any of those conversations second hand through the threads...

There we instances of IM use in TLE but that is my only example.

As for pickles- personally I prefer sweet gherkins- find out what that means about me at the free pickle personality test web site- hidden clues abound...

After reading through the eye-bleeding 245 pages of this thread, with rumors debunked and little gained, I've finally got something to share that I don't think I've seen. I've been lurking for a few days and this is what I have:

http://ccs.cla.kobe-u.ac.jp/GenBun/ny/ny.html

This seems to be a personal page at Kobe University's website for Noriko Yoshida.

The first thing to catch my eye is the URL... If this is OOG, why is it so simple? Most student pages on university sites are complicated because of the number of students (and Kobe is not a small school). Also, I tried several other 2-letter combinations in the subdirectory and the title of the page, and "ny" is the only one coming up.

I've got to head to work so I can't babelfish it, but it's worth trying.

~K

EDIT: Credit goes to Arthur at the We Were the Cool Kids blog, I snagged this from him, who snagged it from someone else.

Yeah, I just put the site through a translator and it all looks legit.

There is one part of the site (the bottom link) that requests a password or something...

But it looks like some kind of legit schoolwork, mostly.

while it has been discussed that Yoshida is the family name (both Ryouta and Noriko share it), it has been overlooked that Ganu may not share that name.

It is highly frowned upon to have a child out of wedlock in Japan, and seeing as Satoshi's last name is Kagashima (Ganu handed the company over to his cousin), could it be that Noriko's husband and Ganu's father's last name could be Kagashima as well?

just sayin'.

Holy crap
1-18-08

I apologize if this has been posted already, but I went to the 1-18-08 site, and there is a new image up.

The image has another time stamp, which indicates that the photo was taken 10 to 12 minutes after the image with the two faces. Anyway, the photo looks like the aftermath of the attack where people are running through a giant cloud of smoke, but the lighting is different.

Anyway, I apologize if this has been already discussed.
