Looks like they took down the screensaver downloads.. they return 404's.

You'd think they would have stopped underestimating us by now.

ok it may not be relevant but the webcam is being updated constantly as if something is happenin i think we should take that into account

There was some speculation about the webcams during ILB, too, but I don't think they've ever been more than Bungie inside-jokes and afaik haven't been part of an ARG before. But if you want to discuss them, like thebruce pointed out, there's a seperate thread for that.

About this downloads page, I'm thinking it's probably in-game, as anything so far that's obviously had the glyph prominently displayed so far has been. In the bottom-left picture, it looks like static behind the glyph, which may be something hidden when that image is displayed in one of the screensavers.

Btw, anyone notice the Windows Livespace pictures are named "Facebook" ? Does that have to do with that advertising "team-up" thing they announced last year?

The Glyph screensaver doesn't seem to work right.. Unless it's a puzzle and something's hidden in it. There are big grey scanlines that flash over it the whole time, at least on my comp.

Yes, the screensaver also appears with grey lines across it for me. It doesn't look like something that could have a hidden message, though... any ideas?

BTW, I'm Rag, lurker-turned-contributor. I look forward to helping where I can. Smile

well, I got the one with the glyph to work, but I am also getting the lines, I highly doubt that the file is incomplete, especially seeing as though, as someone pointed out earier, the glyph is very obvious, and is in fact, the only thing in the screensaver other that just saying Halo 3. However, did anyone notice that the lines are a repeating pattern? at least it looks like it on my end, I'll see what I can do to maybe get a screenshot when I get back to my computer.

No, I think that the lines flash more rapidly at some times, and less rapidly at others. I'm beginning to think that this screensaver has no meaning to the ARG, unless there's some way to interpret it that I haven't thought of.

The actual .scr file (in your system32 folder) is approximately 10 times the size of a simple two screen alternating image variety scrsvr. So the grey bars have to be intentional.

Anyone able to decompile the scr to see what its made of?

At 500k+ thats the size of an interactive directx 3d type.

I suggest it's a Flash MX file. I opened the exe in notepad and found www.winscreensavers.com which is a site for a product that turns Flash MX files into Mac and PC screensavers.

Yeah the SCR itself is just a loader for playing flash SWFs as screensavers.

The SWFs can be played independantly by opening them in a browser from the halo or halo3 folder the installer makes in your windows/system32 folder.

I tried interacting with them from the browser and while the animation plays thats about all it seems to do.

As an interesting sidenote it has the name of what I assume to be the creator of the loader software or the entire screensaver embedded in one of the files.

marisleysis jones.. weird name. It also contains mariSPLATsleysis.com which is either an email address or the @ is supposed to be an A. Either way using it as an http address returns an invalid domain name error.

Hey guys, I decompiled the Screensaver, and found some (seemingly) unnecessary resources for the screen saver. I'm going to upload them here:
