Forum choices for PM groups

Speaking from personal experience with Yahoo, I would not recommend it.

For Acheron, we started on Yahoo and after a couple of months, the file upload area became corrupted. We couldn't upload new documents and most of our Word documents became unreadable.

After two weeks of no usable responses from Yahoo support, we created a second group. It took about 3 weeks to blow the file area out of the water on that one.

So we then moved to SmartGroups.com. It was decent, but not great. The site is a bit slow and the default message display format isn't very useful. We also ran out of file storage space pretty quickly and had to start grooming the documents we no longer needed (so we thought) to make room for new work. They had two outages lasting several days each. Both were unannounced, but scheduled since they were performing upgrades.

I think you should stay with a phpBB forum if you can. Organize it properly up front so it stays manageable.

Thanks for the advice, wb. I'm not a fan of the Yahoo format anyway, plus adverts annoy me! I really like the phpBB layout, it's clean, easy to navigate, and flexible. Good point about documents "no longer needed" - I know from RL experience how easy it is to fall into that particular trap Evil or Very Mad
