as is the case when you try ftp://www.1-18-08.com

this screams to me that we are supposed to get in.

however if you are worried about such things, simply send an email stating that you are attempting to gain access as part of the game. the clues point to getting ftp access to find the next clue. if we are wrong, and I doubt it ,then JJ will realize he needs to leave b etter clues they are on top of everythign else, why would they let somethign liek this slip by? they delete all BS added to the IMDB page within hours of it being posted, why not cut off FTP access, the way it is on the other only in game page we know about?

we are supposed to get in. perhaps IMing one of the names generated with all those anagrams will get us a password. but i have to go to work now. so my leet freind i leave you in charge, take care of my troops. give them plenty of earth and water, and dont kick them down any wells.

Because it's a Shared Box that means *many* people besides just JJ and the Slusho website use it. According to DomainTools 3,026 other websites are hosted at the same place. Without going in to too much detail, it is just the nature of shared hosting that FTP is enabled by default. And sending an email saying you're going to break in, does not override the fact that you are breaking in, it does not change the legality of the situation.

Considering it's not Jan 18 and they're asking on Jan 18, and then it's likely they all end up dead anyway, I'd have to wager a big yep on that one. Jason wouldn't be missing *now* anyway.

FTP

Where are you guys getting pw login alerts? I must be doing it wrong because when I click the ftp.whatever links I get a browser page saying this page is under construction or a text notice I can't access it. No login option at all.

What's up?

Slusho! hiragana

I studied Japanese (very briefly) years ago. I am not fluent or anything like that, actually I suck at Japanese, but thats another story.

I have avoided translating the site like the plauge, since Japanese is kinda tough to translate, but I thought I would give it a crack.

For those who don't know Japanese has three different texts. Kanji which is borrowed from Chinese Kanji and in some cases given Japanese definitions (used for special case words and common words), Katakana which is for general Japanese words, and Hiragana which is used for phonetic spellings of non-Japanese words from other languages.

I started with the "Store" button since it has only 4 Hiragana characters: シヨツプ (read right to left) this translates into Pu Tsu Yo Shi, or putsouosi. For reference the english word "programming is translated into hiragana as: プログラミング or Puroguramingu. Engrish for programming. My question is what is putsouosi, put so you see? It seems is if that would be a miss use of hiragana though. It may be nothing, I don't know.

Customer Feedback is Kanji and Katakana
Downloads is Hiragana
History is Kanji
Happy Talk is Hiragana (with hyphens)
Flavors is Hiragana (with hyphens)
The bottom text is 6 with Kanji and Katakana

I know that the topic of translating the Japanese has been covered earlier, but I haven't seen the proof. It has always been somebody who knows somebody etc. Anyway I am looking into this further and will let you know if I come up with anything else.

Sorry, just had to comment on this.

First of all, katakana is the phonetic syllabary used for foreign words, not hiragana. Second, Japanese on websites is generally read left to right. Finally, the characters are not シヨツプ (which would be read shi yo tsu pu), they are ショップ. The smaller 'ョ' links with the 'シ', and the small 'ッ' signifies a doubled pronunciation of the following character's consonant, which gives us a reading of Shyoppu, or Shop.

I know no one was looking for a Japanese lecture, I just thought I'd put that out there before anyone spent hours trying to fit "putsouosi" somewhere. Wink

Thanks justaguest, I stand humbly corrected. Embarassed

Though just because you get into one account, does not mean that you have access to all of the 3,000 others (otherwise, you'd better trust all of those people not to walk over to your site and start messing with things). I mean, I have a site hosted with these folks too. I'm pretty much stuck on my own and wouldn't be able to get to Slusho without their credentials.

While I pretty much agree with all of this and won't be embarking on any of the hacking myself (mostly 'cuz I think it's a dead end), I think that the usernames and passwords tried so far are pretty harmless. If any of those work, it would be pretty stupid on their end- If I was making a movie called "Super Puppies" and the name of a character was Bill, I sure as hell wouldn't make the loggin username of my ftp "Bill" and then have the password be "superpuppies" or something. I also wouldn't be giving anyone any passwords over IM, either!

I think if it was a serious kind of situation, the username would be "nameofwebteam" and the password would be something actually secure like GJ&*fdo@11 or something... If not, woe to the web team for creating such an easily hacked back door! A lot of people will be pissed at them.

That being said, if it's not relatively easy, yeah. Prolly should give up before you do something you'll regret!

unfortunately, you're right.

after hours of trying worthless after worthless password, i was unable to get anywhere past the front door. and that was without port scanning, brute force, anything considered illegal.

i figured if it was IG, the password could be guessed and therefore be part of the game, however, i've tried almost every word in the slusho! history as well as combinations of words, and yeah...nothing.

i'd post the attempted passwords but the list would be impossibly huge, and you've probably tried them yourselves anyway.

so onto the next step...finding this so-called "shell game"!

Two things:

1) I don't think it's any less illegal if you happen to guess the correct password. You could access my e-mail if you wanted if perhaps you knew me well enough. But it's still my e-mail.

2) Why are you paying attention to some random bizzarro nonsensical "instructions" some random dude posted on here?

libations

"A libation is a ritual pouring of a drink as an offering to a god. It was common in the religions of antiquity"-wikipedia.org Article
seems to me like Noriko was very religious. And liked to show her faith towards a God.

A shell game, isn't that when the con artists put things under walnut shells and you have to guess which one it is when they switch it around?

Regarding "hacking" ftp-account

I work as a sysadmin at a large european web hosting company, and I can assure you that excessive login attempts towards a shared ftp-service will be logged and might even lead to legal actions, if we think we can win through. So, if this site truly is hosted as shared hosting, the people who designed the site, don't have any say over the ftp-service. So I'd be very careful about trying to log into that service.

Pitty, because this was probably the best arg-like lead we've had..
