The answers posted by dboz777 are actually MY answers, posted on Wednesday (ie., two days ago), on Perplexorum. It was quite nice of him to post them unattributed. My original post is here.

Well thanks, I spent the last hour trying to find the "Dot Guide" piece and you just rescued me. Have all ten now - after a long time surfing.

Pieces
Golden Jigsaw

Morbus is right, I did copy the links from his ppost on the other page, although I didn't think they were working on this page because of the dots. I was going to try to fix them by editing, but I could not edit the post or delete it. As I was running late for an appointment, I did not have time to fix it. So please give him credit for posting them, I did find most of them without his help, but am grateful for his help with the last two. Oh, yeah, and I am a she....just in case you care. Morbus, I am so sorry if you were offended, but I thought you didn't mind sharing, since you posted them yourself......didn't credit you as I was checking first to see if they were working, they didn't work from my computer on this page.

New Rule on Game!

Did you all see the new rule on the game! Just got e-mailed out today along with Clue #2. I guess you can't post the location anymore.

If they won't let us talk about the game (no freedom of speech) on a forum and threaten to sue their customers, I think they will lose most of their customers. Here it is:

"7.1.5 Divulging the location or locations of Golden Jigsaw pieces, whether by email, spoken word, blogs, instant messaging, text messaging, websites, forums, articles or any other form of communication.

7.2 Infinite Ideation Limited reserve the right to pursue any player found in breach of 7.1 through 7.1.5 for suitable financial compensation in respect of losses incurred as a result of their conduct.

Please note: All players are bound by these terms and conditions. These terms are effective immediately and if you do not agree to be bound by therse rules, please unsubscribe yourself from the game."

domain extensions

So is it OK to talk about domain extensions?

This is a UK game, so I would suppose that they will be using UK domain extensions - like ******.co.uk for example. Just thought I would mention it since we are used to looking for .com extensions.

Hi everyone.
I'm one of the tech support / moderators of the Golden Jigsaw.
The rule changes that you have all recieved have not been inforced because we're trying take the fun out of it for anybody... in fact, we have been getting quite a few complaints from people about clue solutions and piece locations being too publicly broadcast on forums and other such groups.
We don't expect EVERYONE to stop revealing answers to each other, that would be impossible. We only ask that if you intend to reveal answers to your friends then don't make it so public, keep to I.M's or private messages.

Cheers.

and, now, I'm mad. Idiots have that effect on me.
(and I'm not talking about the players)

Man, I just have to add an editorial comment here. These people are putting up a marketing campaign on the internet with a million dollar prize and they don't expect traffic? Then, they expect to be able to police it? Then, they are surprised that people complain that answers are being posted?

What the heck? Did they do any research at all? Just skimming through the Pirate of the Caribbean game forums here would have given them a sense of what would happen. Or asking anyone who has played or being involved with one of these types of games. Guess they didn't bother to think of that. Or, you know, check with an experienced person.

I don't know if the added stipulations are valid in the US or not. These sweepstakes/ contest rules are very confusing as to which law applies, even more so because the pieces are all located on the internet. So it isn't clear that the choice of law they pick is binding. I did explain how complex this is, right?

I, personally, would like to sue them for being complete and total idiots. And idiots who are collecting your personal data to sell to other companies. (could this be some sort of marketing scam?)

Can you tell that I hate people trying to tell us what information we can and can't share on this forum? And that, now, I'm mad.

This is a sticky, complex problem. Certainly I would advise any player who thinks they have a chance of winning to follow the rules. Those of us who don't think they have a chance of winning and just want to help move the contest along... I leave that up to you.

Note: this is my personal rant and opinion which I haven't discussed with any of the site admins or other moderators. So don't take this as an unfiction position. The decision of what to allow to be posted in these circumstances is one that I, thankfully, don't have to make.

So, we can simply use the 'Spoiler' code to hide it from people who don't want to read it?

Also- I thought these forums were scrictly OOG.

Editorial comment of my own...
Have you seen the amount of money they're expecting to make out of this? The last 80 puzzle pieces alone would make $1,000,000 and then some. That's 920 pieces of profit. I have severe doubt as to whether companies are going to want to pay £11,000 for 1 jigsaw piece on their website, considering that 999 other sites will have already done so. The traffic-sales ratio must be enormous - I bet nobody on here bought from naturalcollection.com (even if they were able to connect to the page!).

And what's stopping someone getting all the pieces, then buying the last piece for $500,000 and submitting it themselves? I see nothing in the T&C about that!

rose i mostly agree with your rant, but as i've mentioned before - and as you said again this stinks of a marketing scam.

i found the privacy policy pretty shocking and the t&c's pretty bad as well (one of my favourites:
4.8 If for any reason the prize value which is funded by advertisers is not reached, the prize value will be 50% of all monies received by Infinite Ideation Limited in respect of the Golden Jigsaw project.)
and for those reasons decided against signing up for the game.

i would advise anyone who feels concerned and doesn't want to carry on wiht the game this to write to the company and ask them to delete your details, and pass on that request to their partners. ok so i'd like to see their reply to that.

and finally, one important point in the T&C's:
11.1 Inifinite Ideation Limited may amend these terms at any time either by emailing the players notification of the new terms and/or by publishing the modified terms on the relevant page of the website. All such changes will take effect within thirty (30) days once they have been posted on the website or emailed to the players and the players will be deemed to have accepted any such changes by their use of the website and/or Golden Jigsaw playing board following such time.

so you guys still have 30 days to discuss the puzzle here before they can legitimately get annoyed. (and you can't annoy them either, it's written in the t&c's...)

Just to be clear, if anything, the one in the wrong here is gj_leigh for posting in a thread related to a game of which he's on the development team, which is a clear no-no as far as Unfiction's TOS is concerned.

Unfiction members are, of course, free to discuss openly and freely however they see fit, as that's what this forum is for.

So, gj-leigh, you have it kinda backwards. On these forums: Posting by Game Developers in threads about their game=BAD; Free speech by players=GOOD.

Seriously, you run a game and then think you can stop the world from posting publicly about solutions? Due Diligence? Welcome to the internet. Smile

The exact issue came up with the Isis Adventure. Perhaps they should read up on that thread and that product.

However, the people who sponsor a contest are free to post rules on their own game's site(s) which stipulate that a player may be disqualified from any chance of winning a prize by their actions. Those players are then free to play however they wish if they do not wish to win a prize. You can't stop the signal!
