It's just "product placement", same thing with the Hennessey. It's extremely unlikely that there's any clues there. If the product placement is for something that the target audience (i.e., kids, young adults) would buy, then I might look to websites for those companies for clues, the way TLE had things on Sprite and whatever that car company was.

Per my understanding, previous ARGs and viral campaigns used sponsors in the game. Companies like Chevy, Sprite, Jeep, etc. all ran ARG related websites. So, Sephora or Hennessey are actually valid leads.

All the TLE tie-ins were intended to market items to the target audience of Lost. It's about moving product. I'd be much more convinced if it were product placement for products that appeal to a much wider audience than cognac or high-end cosmetics.

Look, I'll be the first to eat my words if proven wrong, so feel free to knock yourselves out.

Actually, you do have a point. But that doesn't rule this out in my opinion. Only looking for the type of clues that appeared in other ARGs is not smart. I imagine that people involved in creating ARGs will always want to try new things. New kinds of clues. New avenues of thought. I think every lead that has a valid link to the stuff we have, is a lead worth following.

Given that we have basically nothing to work with that's got any leads at all (save Slusho!, which no one has cracked), I agree.

Ok. Getting back to the trailer; has anyone been able to figure out why the thrown SOL head makes such an odd sound? Even if the windows in the diadem would make some sort of whirring sound, I would think it would be more smooth. The sound in the trailer isn't like that. It's unnatural, almost like the sort of sounds you hear in sci-fi or horror films when something is being moved telekinetically.

I mentioned that about 100 or so pages back. No one replied. Good to know I'm not the only one who heard it Wink

random thought

I'm not really familiar with the way flash and other interactive media on websites work with your computer, but I was just curious if they can function off of your system settings. I remember for a while there was a movie coming out where the trailer was supposed to be available on the website only at midnight or so and it knew what time it was based off of your pc settings or something like that. Anyway, point is, I wondered if the time stamps on the pictures meant that if you set your system clock to that time and visited either 1-18-08 or slusho then maybe something would happen? Just a thought.

More stuff.

It's the work of digital sound effects artists and foley artists consulting over the theoretical sounds that a huge statue of liberty head would make if thrown at that velocity with that spin on it. It has a distinct metallic reverberation with an oscillation due to the spinning, and a pitch adjustment to simulate a doppler effect. If you'd like to authenticate or disprove the sound, feel free to either build your own life size SOL head and a trebuchet large enough to whip it through the air at the correct velocity and spin, or drink more slusho and become a monster capable of tearing the real statue's head off and flinging it.

In other words, I wouldn't read too much into the sound the statue of liberty's head makes as it's flying through the air. It's like questioning the sound effect that the phaser makes on Star Trek or the sound those huge spaceships make when they fire their primary weapons in Independence Day.

yea it was done with javascript. the content was still there if you looked at the source, just covered up.

We've ripped apart the flash and havent discovered anything.

We don't know exactly how much time elapsed between the first roar, the first explosion, and the tossed SOL head. There are cuts between each of these. The timestamp on the screencaps (though maybe we shouldn't assume that these are caps from the vid guy) mean something, but at least they provide clues to the timing and sequence of events:

a. The 1st roar is after the 12:01 photo and before 12:32 (time on NY1 broadcast);

b. The explosion seen from the roof is after the 12:32 newscast, of course, but we don't know how long afterward because there's a cut and not much continuity between these scenes. Still, its likely no more than a couple minutes.

c. The SOL-401 Broadway meeting takes place within a few minutes of the explosion. There are numerous cuts here, but the continuity is pretty tight.

d. The woman on the right in the 12:36 screencap I'm pretty sure is the woman standing outside next to Rob (wearing the heart necklace), but this screencap may have been taken on the roof during the explosion. The reflection in the eyes could either be one of the fireballs, or the SOL head.

At any rate, the SOL head goes on its trip pretty quickly, perhaps as little as four minutes after the explosion seen from the roof. That means the head coming from the "wrong" side of Manhattan Island could be the result of: a) an oversight, b) more than one monster, c) a really fast monster carrying the head, d) a flying monster, e) telekinesis, f) they knew it was a mistake, but they wanted to show 401 Broadway getting toasted.

Since J.J and company seem inclined to give us nothing good to pursue, I would suggest we attempt to tear apart the information we're getting from behind the scenes, to try to determine more about the setting of which these events are supposed to take place.

We have a direct link to Slusho and the L.A. shooting set thanks to the image of the Film L.A. Notification of Filming, which lists the movie being filmed as Slusho. We know that a fake Sephora store was built - there are 2 Sephora stores in L.A. and neither are at the filming location. We also know from the Sephora Store Locator that there are 12 stores in New York City, and one on Staten Island which we'll exclude since it's inside of a mall. If the fake store is supposed to closely resemble a real Sephora store in New York City, it would appear similar to one that actually exists.

Searching Google maps for Sephora New York City, I found a very close match: at 119 5th Avenue, on the corner to East 19th Street. It's not exactly the same, since many of the New York locations have a trademark black and white striped awning which is similar to the black and white stripes on the L.A. fake building. However, it lies on a street corner and the architecture is similar. It's the best fit out of all of the stores in NYC.

What this tells us is that as the movie progresses it also progresses northward through NYC.

Well, it's something.
Yep...

Yes?
LOL.. no I'm saying that's the store I think that the fake Sephora is to recreate so when all those people are running, they would be running past 19th, down 5th ave IRL. Just an useless fact since everything else is going so slowly and we're on the wait for Comic Con

I took the pic on my way to work yesterday.. that's 5th and 19th...

Some people think that Microsoft may be a sponsor because of this:
