what evidence points to the need for us to believe that there are 3 monsters?

First of all, I'm saying that I think the creature is going to be completely original, maybe inheriting some characteristics from Behemoth/Levithan/Ziz.

Second, there could be three monsters, or a bunch more. There's evidence that says there's only one monster, and there's contradicting evidence that says there needs to be more than one. At this stage, we don't know much and therefore can only speculate based on what we have. We don't have much, so there's going to be a lot of contradiction.

how about

there isn't a monster. lets go all government conspiracy.

whatever slusho is, it turns people into mutants. it was found out when noriko became a whale. ny was the test market for slusho, and it went bonkers. the government decided it was easier to level the city, and cover up, then let people know what was really happening to their family memebers in ny.

way, way, waaaaaaaaaaaay out there...i could be having flashbacks, tied in w/ too much JFK at that point in my life...

i'm seriously beginning to think its that big tall bald guy "bull" from night court.

actually I think it's an alien that was originally non hostile, it came to earth to store its babies in a safe location, under the massive presure and deep freeze of the ocean, but Ganu and his pals find said unhatched babies not recognizing them as a lifeform, not even realizing they are alive, and start eating them, momma comes back to find this horror and goes on a major rampage, following the scent of her babies along the slusho delivery import route to new york. it's roaring in pain ad disgust, and when it comes towards our shores, at first it thinks the liberty statue is a person and it rips her head off at tosses it like a football 2 miles into manhattan where wham! it hits the 401 building.

Okay, but in the story the sea creature contacts Ganu in his dreams and tells him to put the special ingrediant in Slusho so they can become whales themselves.

Doesn't really jive. You're kinda selectively ignoring parts.

on to something
from JJ himself

Crimson, I think you are on to something. Here is why. JJ himself said we should take note of the roar, and the statement " it's alive, it's huge". I've been racking my brain on what could be gleaned from those 2 things, and nada...until crimson's theory.

Folks, I think we're overexamining this "it's alive, it's huge" thing.

If you saw a ginormous explosions and a wierd noise, you would assume (in today's day and age), either "terrorists" or "freak accident". We don't live in a time where we believe in giant monsters or dragons or chimeras, and for anyone to naturally assume that a nonhuman, living thing is attacking the city is pretty far removed from reality.

The "it's alive" line is a hint that this is indeed a monster movie, not that it's something that was previously not alive or assumed to be inanimate, sleeping or dead.

Oh, and no offense, but the golem theory is pretty... out there.

But if you were in that same situation, and your girlfriend or best buddy was yelling "What is it? Is it coming this way?" and you had seen it... would you just say "I saw it, it's alive, it's huge?" Or would you be yelling something like "I saw it! It's a huge ****'n slime monster draggin the ****'n head of the statue of liberty down the street, now run you stupid *****!!!"

Whale?
...

You know, the whole turning into a whale thing was seemingly meant as a matephor. That lady didn't actually physically transform into a whale, but metaphorically so, as in she just kept drinking and eating into obesity and stuff. Nothing points to physical transfromaion, otherwise how would she go to school and get that nickname???

Well there's been a lot of clues about what's going on. First, we were told before the trailer even came out that JJA was working on a movie at that time code-named The Parasite. That could have been totally to throw us off the mark; but then we got the real site, Slusho.com/jp. That site indicates that drinking Slusho! is addictive and, apparently, makes one "big". But Ganu was "big" before drinking slusho, because he was a successful scientist, therefore, "big" just means "powerful" or "respected", as in "he's the big man down at the central office..." But the mysterious substance found at sea seems to be the main clue; whether it's parasitic or not is too early to tell. I think the source of the goop or whatever Ganu found is something else. I think the source of the Monstrous gigantenormous thing that blew away the SOL is based on a beast that many now believe actually exists.

I didn't give it much credence at first, but on another blog, possibly here too, someone mentioned the bloop phenomenon that was discovered in 1997 and then made public by the NOAA in 2002. Some other blogs even thought the CNN report from 2002 was a fake and was back-dated, but they're wrong. I looked it up since I've always been interested in cryptozoology.

Bloop is, or rather was, a very real thing; since that time, no more bloop has been discovered, but there has been a global die-off of deep sea animals, including an unprecedented number of giant squid washing ashore (these have never been seen alive in modern times). Bloop may be on the move.

Plug in "bloop" at wikipedia to read more, and then check here (you can ignore the cthulhu references if you choose to, but they are interesting):

http://www.bloopwatch.org

If the bloop exists--and people who studied the sound are convinced it does--then it's the biggest mofo on earth. Considerably bigger than a blue whale, like the little blue whale that is almost certainly supposed to represent Noriko Yoshida on the slusho title page. Analysis of the bloop sound also has some similarities to the first roar in the trailer. The recorded sound of bloop is too big a file to post here, so check the sites above to hear it and draw your own conclusions. Keep in mind that Bloop was picked up by monitors nearly 5,000 miles away and it was probably close to 20 miles beneath the sea. If nothing else, reading about Bloop is an interesting diversion, trust me.

Most monster movies play on contemporary fears. What's one of the biggest fears (some would say hysteria) in the world right now? What did Ganu & Co figure out they had to do to preserve slusho?

bah!! The dream was telepathically implanted by enemies of the poppler empire. Take that!

Or perhaps the sea creatures brain patterns were incompatible, and they sensed him nearby and tried to communicate telepathically to keep them in the cold, but because of the language barrier and incompatible brain patterns, he didn't get the message instantly like he should have, and when he fell asleep the information transmited to his brain's declarative memory created that dream.

The story never claimed she was a whale, or turned into one. It was just a nickname her friends gave her.

I think the whole story is meant to be taken literally, in a sense. If you get past the language used here's what happened:

Noriko was a bit crazy. She was driven to the ends of the Earth to find what she was looking for. She disappears.

Her son is contacted in his sleep by a mysterious entity. It is a semi-religious experience. It tells him how everyone can become "whales."

He is now distributing this substance to people world-wide.
