If the movie was set in the near future, then we should visualize where they are right now. For example, rob is going to japan, then we could look for things that is connected to his friends planning a suprise party..etc , you get the idea?

Actually, that's not a bad idea. It would be too early for his friends to be planning a surprise party (Who plans a surprise party five months in advance?), but in theory right about now might be when Rob decides to go to Japan, starts getting vaccinations, telling friends, making plans for his apartment and so on. Deity help me for suggesting this, but maybe there's a blog out there by "Rob" detailing his decision to go to Japan? I have limited search capabilities at work, but I'll start looking for info on a guy named Rob planning on going to Japan early next year.

Hrm... It's worth a try at least.

I found a Microsoft Live page about a guy named Robert who is going to Japan to meet some friends and work for a year or two. Here is the link.

Not to sure if it is IG or OOG

Nevermind I should have checked hi sprofile prior to posting. It is OOG

The coincidence is spooky. What makes you so sure this is OOG?

The posts I can see were made this july...

If you look at his profile he is from Australia or something like that. Unless Rob was born in Australia and moved to New York. But the picture looks nothing like the actor.

But, the box sems to have the American "Nutrition Information" label on the side, meaing it's made for export.

Of course, it doesn't matter at all if this is just a random prop of Japanese stuff selected by some intern on the shoot.

One more point, it's too blurry, but there's a chance that the box is Chinese (doesn't fit the Japan story, though) since there are no apparent hiragana or katakana, only kanji.

Oops, 2 boxes, so the nutrition label is not an issue.

Really looking at the four kanji in closeup, I took a guess that the left half could be the "fish" radical, and the right side is pretty clear, so the first one (on the left) MIGHT be "shark" and the third one MIGHT be the kanji "zou" which means "organs", meaning the second kanji, if I could read it, would help us figure out which organ it is. The last kanji is way too blurry.

But "shark" and "organs" on a tea or cracker box make almost no sense, except other elements of this whole puzzle DO fit, or just made me see sea life and weirdness related meanings.

I agree, I think it's tea. The "real deal" Japanese rice crackers I've bought have all been in bags, never boxes (unless they are American-made).

Those wacky interns! I am interested in some of that decor, though. That navy blue and white screen behind the guy who says "he's like your main dude," what is that? A pot of tea? A rake? A wheel of cheese hanging from a rope? (hmm.. cheese... need oven mitt to pick up hot tea kettle...)

There are also shots and references to sushi ("You can't drink just six" is an anagram for sushi something something and there's a clear shot of a tray of sushi at the party). I have a theory that the monster is a giant California Roll, a monstrous result of the harvesting of "imitation" crab meat and the havoc it has wreaked on the environment- and it's coming to teach us a lesson... (I never said it was a GOOD theory!)

Whoops, sorry.

Hey, I'm checking the Oceanic Airlines page, and does anybody know the airport code of a prominent city in Japan?

EDIT: Not only are all flights "cancelled", but the seating chart for the flight from JFK airport to Tokyo airport leaving on January 18th is blank. Dead end, I guess.

Laughing One little detail!

Actually, I just remembered, it was from "I saw it, it's alive, it's huge..." too many trips to the anagram server for me! Darn that Jamb Jars! I mean, J.J. Abrams...

Thanks for the help, anyways. I plugged in the two Tokyo codes and didn't come up with anything, and I checked the preset airport codes, which also turned up nothing.

Is there an actual airport with the code JJA? Sounds a little like J.J. Abrams to me...

Nope, according to Orbitz no airport is abbreviated JJA. However the Republic of Korea's Jeju Air does have the 3 letter airline code of JJA.

No problem. Sorry I haven't been too much help today. I'm finding it's actually really hard to research while at work. Which seems completely weird to me since I spend most of my time online anyway. I guess I just didn't realize how broken up that time is with little jobs and distractions. Smile

Anyway, I AM still working on the actual Rob aspect of the planning thing. I've found a page that's an FAQ about how to live in Japan, written by some guy named Rob, but before I post it I'm going to see if it's IG or OOG.

*sigh* So much to do, so little time.

Yes, in fact, one of our guest posters discovered it and posted it here originally; although some might claim an AICN responder discovered it first, they didn't have cute pics to back up their claim.

And to nip the next question in the bud, we also know about themonstrousmovie.com and that it's not live yet, and that Paramount registered it.

Spectrogram?

Hey, I skipped some pages (didn't want to read it all while I was away), but didn't someone perform an audio spectrum analysis on the second or third roar and find numbers and letters (possibly a license plate) encoded in the audio just a few days ago?

Was that debunked or what, because I thought it was pretty promising.
