http://www.pareidolia.com/

I've been looking at this....
http://www.pareidolia.com/
Don't get too excited, I'm doubt this has anything to do with PS.
Maybe it's just a good example of the word pareidolia.

Looking as the background jpg; aside from the obvious "face" seen on Mars; if looked at as one of those Magic Eye pics, a square pops out at me.

When I scanned the source quickly, I thought I saw hon.
The name of the background jpg is "ho_cydonia_voyager_c2.jpg" Laughing Laughing

What's it called when one looks for things that aren't there?
A pareidolia paradox??

"ceci n'est pas une pipe" means "This is not a pipe,' and is the name of a famous painting by Renee Magritte that spraked much controversy.

more hints from syzygy

<AdrianHon> Look guys, there is something you have missed
<AdrianHon> In fact, two things you have missed
<AdrianHon> But no doubt you will find them eventually
<AdrianHon> One of them you have already seen, but brushed over
<AdrianHon> The other one is really obvious when you find it though
<AdrianHon> Direction. Alison. That's all I'm saying.

So looks like its back to the alison.rtf file at http://www.projectsyzygy.com/images/_/

We have to use 2oc4o:ptxt as 2oc3o:ptxt was a mistake.

Also before leaving he said
<AdrianHon> If you need any more clues, I will have to commit seppuku
<AdrianHon> It is not a file!
<AdrianHon> The reason I am giving you these clues is because this is a minor puzzle. The bigger puzzle is still hidden.
<AdrianHon> You need direction.
<yanka> directory, then
<catherwood> north south east west
<AdrianHon> No
<yanka> who - no?
<AdrianHon> More abstract
<AdrianHon> Imaginary. Virtual direction, even.
<AdrianHon> In any case, you'll love the next puzzle. It cost enough, in any case.
<catherwood> alison -> 2oc4o ... i would think there is some useful reason for the file name
<yanka> to "oc" for "o"?
<yanka> alison = 1 12 9 19 14
<yanka> oops
<AdrianHon> No Smile
<AdrianHon> Direction. Redirection.
<AdrianHon> It is deceptively simple. Unlike the next one

longer log:

[12:32] *** AdrianHon has joined #syzygy
[12:35] <02colin> i'm interested in how global it will be
[12:36] <AdrianHon> Quite
[12:37] <02colin> as in don't speak?
[12:37] <AdrianHon> No, as in quite global
[12:37] <yanka> the problem is, what they said can have so many interpretations. "Look for comments," for example, can mean "comments in the source code" "comments in the blogs" "comments on the popups" (and then it depends on what would be considered "comments")
[12:37] <AdrianHon> Look guys, there is something you have missed
[12:38] <AdrianHon> In fact, two things you have missed
[12:38] <AdrianHon> But no doubt you will find them eventually
[12:38] <AdrianHon> One of them you have already seen, but brushed over
[12:38] <yanka> I am going to cry... again
[12:39] <AdrianHon> The other one is really obvious when you find it though
[12:39] <02colin> where does it lead?
[12:39] <yanka> haha
[12:39] <AdrianHon> To something very interesting
[12:39] <yanka> ok, things we brushed over: that "s" over the word "webs", the sound,
[12:40] <AdrianHon> To behind the curtain
[12:40] <AdrianHon> No Smile
[12:40] <02colin> you need people to solve it because the people that solve it are the people that will create the game?
[12:40] <AdrianHon> brb
[12:40] <02colin> atm, its just two people
[12:40] <AdrianHon> No
[12:40] <AdrianHon> You know the game doesn't start until Q4. This is nothing new.
[12:40] <AdrianHon> We are going through the prologue
[12:41] <yanka> colin, are you going to post what he said (is saying)?
[12:41] <02colin> well i could
[12:41] <02colin> or i could solve it myself first
[12:41] <02colin> Wink
[12:41] <yanka> hee. what other things have we brushed over?
[12:42] <02colin> i didn't really look at it properly
[12:42] <AdrianHon> Sigh
[12:42] <AdrianHon> I am disappointed by you guys Wink
[12:42] <yanka> I have no doubt
[12:42] <AdrianHon> Direction. Alison. That's all I'm saying.
[12:42] <yanka> omg
[12:43] <02colin> that means something to you?
[12:43] <yanka> thank you!
[12:43] <yanka> not that I know what to do with it, but at least it's something concrete
[12:43] <yanka> colin: yes - it's something about alison.rtf
[12:43] <AdrianHon> The other thing will be very obvious in due course

---we try to work it out---

[13:12] <yanka> he said something earlier about this being pre-game stuff, if I'm not mistaken
[13:15] <AdrianHon> You are not
[13:15] <Lou|DVD> heh
[13:15] *** AdrianHon has left #syzygy (Leaving)

[13:16] *** AdrianHon has joined #syzygy
[13:17] <AdrianHon> As I was saying in #unfiction
[13:17] <AdrianHon> Sheesh guys, it is not that difficult
[13:17] <AdrianHon> Stop looking at the formatting, and look at the text
[13:17] <catherwood> 20c30 or something, i forget
[13:19] <yanka> 2oc3o:ptxt alison.rtf 02-Mar-2004 10:48
[13:19] <yanka> 2oc4o:ptxt alison.rtf 02-Mar-2004 15:08
[13:19] <catherwood> to oh see three oh
[13:19] <AdrianHon> OK
[13:19] <AdrianHon> Ignore the first one. That was a mistake.
[13:19] <catherwood> heehee
[13:19] <yanka> thanks again
[13:20] <yanka> I tried even tocto
[13:20] <AdrianHon> If you need any more clues, I will have to commit seppuku
[13:20] <catherwood> i tried to find a file called 2oc4o.ptxt
[13:20] <catherwood> iie, sensai
[13:20] <AdrianHon> It is not a file!
[13:20] <AdrianHon> The reason I am giving you these clues is because this is a minor puzzle. The bigger puzzle is still hidden.
[13:20] <catherwood> i didn't think so, just telling people what i tried (in error)
[13:21] <yanka> if it's not a file, it could be: directory, new site, login
[13:21] <AdrianHon> You need direction.
[13:21] <yanka> directory, then
[13:21] <catherwood> north south east west
[13:21] <AdrianHon> No

[13:25] <catherwood> some of us are just too leftbrained

[13:27] <AdrianHon> And now I am off to bed.
[13:27] <yanka> and that was wrong, anyway

The file alison.rtf contains the string of characters 2oc4o:ptxt. It is interesting to note that both the filename and contents are the same length. Furthermore, an IRC chat mentioned that the previous value (2oc3o) was incorrect. This seems to indicate the value itself is important: "2oc3o" by itself had to be corrected. If it was simply a directory or file name, a correction might not be necessary because the directory or file could be renamed. The fact that it had to be changed implies that this value likely interacts with something else.

I played around with a few transforms using one letter from each (basically combining them like a "one time pad" sort of thing), but unfortunately didn't end up with anything. If anyone wants to double-check my work or try to continue where I gave up, you can find my notes here.

Man, we are dumb!

I am not sure how conclusive that is. For instance: http://pareidolia.com/index/ninja/monkey/ leads you to the same place. I'm guessing somebody has a particular Apache module installed (mod spelling?) that maps that request back to the original index.html.

Maybe this was supposed to be obvious?

Has anyone stopped to wonder what is in the lower-right corner of the popup window image? A hallway? A lobby? The letter P?

The letter "P" means "private", I am quite sure. And the image - when I was googling project syzygy, I came across this. It's real, but it doesn't mean they wouldn't think it was a cool image anyway.

I forgot to mention that that image just looks like the one in the corner; and a smaller area of it, at that. I'm not at all sure that's it.

This has probably been found already but the style of writing for the 'P' is similar to this from the images directory; other than that still in the dark. On another note whats the chance of 2oc4o from the alison.rtf being the decryption key for a ptxt encryption, though i've no idea where the encrypted file itself would be.
