Sorry, both have been brought up before. The website a fake, a very well done gamejack.

Welcome to the forum, though, and next time you might want to read through or use the search function before posting.

One issue that has been mentioned and hinted at (but haven't seen a full formed theory on) is that of hot and cold. We know that the secret ingredient for Slusho needs to be kept very cold. We also know from the news report in the trailer that NYC is at a quite warm 63 degrees at around midnight in January. From the movie poster, we see that the water line is higher than it would be in real life.

I think there are a couple of ways this could work into the movie. The first (and less likely, I think) theory is that some of the secret Slusho substance is in NYC and the unseasonably warm weather disrupts its frozen/cold state. Either it becomes the monster somehow or causes someone/thing else to become the monster. The problem I have with this theory is that even if NYC was at normal winter temps, the substance would still be contained in some kind of refrigeration unit if people knew it had to be kept cold. Of course, some sort of accident could circumvent this.

My other theory is that the source of this substance is disturbed by the warm weather OR by the change in sea level. This theory hinges on the idea that the source of the secret ingredient is some sort of monster itself. The big hole here is how it gets to New York. Does it come from just off the coast? Is it attracted to New York for some reason? Not sure here. It seems that if Slusho is a Japanese company (plus the fact that the Marianas Trench is near Japan) that the substance comes from somewhere closer to Asia, but who knows. At the very least, I'm fairly confident that the warm temperatures and the fact that the secret substance requires cold are involved in the storyline. They seem to be some of the few pieces of hard evidence we have.

I find it amusing that while the rest of the Slusho site is written in Engrish, the instructions on the downloads page are in very clear english.

Harry over at AICN seems to think the movie is called Colossus.

He makes reference to Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin, who is also known as Colossus on in the X-men.

So... question is.. is Harry leaving us clues?

Interesting. One of my favorite old-school sci fi films is described here:

http://www.sensesofcinema.com/contents/00/10/colossus.html

This is not a remake of Colosus of New York, but the filmmaker also did several giant monster movies (set in London). Perhaps all these films provided JJA with inspiration. As for JJA's "originality", almost all good films derive inspiration from other good films and literature that went before.

BTW, JJA is clearly claiming ownership of the idea--why isn't he directing it?

You know, that article over at ew.com said that "it ain't a colossal Asian robot, either." So, maybe Colossus is a hint!

LAME

A Colossus is a stupid idea for a movie monster. Plus, it's not original at all. I mean, I could almost see some sort of plot involving a sunken island or something and then a statue coming to life from some undersea world... maybe they could call that place Atla--oh wait... Rolling Eyes

Besides that... I don't think a colossus would have claws or rise out of the sea... possibly... but I don't think so. Plus a colossus isn't really a monster... more like a giant living statue person thing...

Anyhow.... here's hopeing for something significantly less lame...

Addendum: Maybe that sounded a bit harsh, but if they're going for an epic monster anywhere near the scale of Godzilla or King Kong, they're going to have to kick it up another notch. Hard I don't think a giant man would do it.

Here's an idea to throw out there, I was looking up colossal, and yes colossal squid came up. They are the largest (and I mean large) squid and only a few specimens have been found of this creature. The anatomy could match what the monster in the trailer does to lady liberty's head, considering it is mutated and grows much much larger with a different anatomy by something that has to do with slusho possibly, we know it most likely is a water based creature on the clues we have, again it's just an idea to when AICN's writer gave refrence to the X-Men character Colossal possibly being the name of the movie.

Hey guys, after much searching I came across a semi-large version of the Cloverfield poster, so here it is:

Sorry if this has been posted on the forums for easy access before, I checked the movie poster discussion thread but I couldn't get in for some reason.

And I feel that Colossus is an unlikely name. There's already a semi-famous PS2 game called Shadow of the Colossus, a book called Colossus, and a movie called Colossus: Forbin Project.

EDIT: Poster Analysis

I think we can safely say the monster is water-based, as there is a visible wake in the water leading from the Statue to NY.

Tan, dusty smoke is pouring from several buildings, and two helicopters are faintly visible.

Bits of debris are still pouring from the Statu's stump where the head should be, leaving me to believe the monster is fairly quick, if it could tear off the head, throw it, run to land and destroy several buildings while bits off steel and copper still fall. Off course, that could just be the wind.

Finally, the monster has claws - and big ones at that. Three long slash marks are visible on one of the buildings, each cutting through what seems to be several stories.

Of course, I'm not completely positive about any of this, keep that in mind, and I'm sorry if this has been posted before, I couldn't find it anywhere on this thread.

I'm not even sure anymore what the clues are supposed to lead us to. I mean are they supposed to tell us what an original monster looks like? Is it supposed to reveal the name that they said will be revealed later? What are we trying to find out?

If it's based off of an animal lets start eliminating the already used animals. Lizard (including dinosaurs) , Monkey , Squid , Moth , Worm , Marshmellow (?), and for good measure lets strike of Robot .

Maybe it is a shark with legs! That's pretty original. Or a mutant whale that had his brother speared and he's out for revenge. Oh maybe it's a giant duck because of the whole land/air/sea thing on Slusho! After all it does say Ducky on the .jpg's! (yes I know that doesn't mean anything!)

Bah! ARG's normally aren't this hard, are they?

By "original", I think they simply mean not a creature that's already licensed by somebody else. So, no Godzilla, Mothra, King Kong, etc. They might reuse an animal, but it would be done in an original way somehow.
