a solution, kinda

I think the ideal medium to track our progress that would be real time would be a chat room with logging enabled. An intermediate between BBoards and IRC.

Still banging my head against that cypher.

My crew127 account wont connect me.. I believe the updatelog page was pulled...

I'm fine with 7-10 indepth people as long as new ones can come in and get up to date, plus be added as people fall out.

I think the 'secret' site is fine for communicating with Germain's group. It beats the hell out of having him contact a point person via email.

We should continue to share information and speculation here. We then provide Germain's group with whatever's relevant.

And yeah, TPetal became very loquacious on twitter. Were you replying, coffee?

Couldn't agree more on every single last syllable. I was a little confused that I somehow magically became his contact because he got spooked by some mysterious thing surf did. Rolling Eyes Damned if I can figure out what it was, but suddenly I had t ocheck no fewer than 4 yahoo addresses throughout the day (2 in game).

I was going to read all of the night's post before replying, but Mort's idea was far far too perfect to wait. Very Happy

So 127's down? Too bad. I think we balked initially but then figured out a way to use it and keep true to the UF ideal of open exchange.

coffee: So Allen was trying to prevent enemy moth bats? I knew it! He will be remembered as the greatest martyr of all times. I tip my tomb hat to him. Razz

I sticthed petal's twittering together because reading it inverted made me angry (I edited it a little for punctuation and line breaks but didn't change anything):

Quote:
I read a story once about a man who had a moment of clarity whilst sitting in a tree talking to a peacock. Strange, but true (the fact that I read it, not the story itself). No peacocks involved, but I have had a little epiphany myself. My epiphany has to do with fear. The fear that someone will be able to find me because some good people, whom he MAY know, keep showing up at my house wearing distinctive hats. Well, I've decided that I have to stop being afraid. I have faith in my own skill and in the technology that I have access to. And if he is good enough to get past that (the technology, obviously not my skill), then there really isn't anything I can do about it. Not that I'm turning fatalistic, far from it. I'll still observe my SOPs (and some new ones). But I can't keep running like I have been. I was looking for help when this all started, and my need for help got a couple people hurt. So it can't be about help any more; I can't pull any more people into this and risk them getting hurt as well. I think it just has to be about information. If some people see it and can use it, maybe learn something from it, so much the better. If no one ever sees it...well, I did what I could. I'm just me, and the organization I'm dealing with is VERY BIG. I'm sure you've heard of them. They're supposed to be protecting us, but I have reason to believe that they are running a project...that has already stepped way over the line. The project is called OSPREY, and I've been able to get some of the project files. I'm stashing them here: http://tinyurl.com/2xnejc. I've been trying to make some notes about these files. They are here: http://tinyurl.com/2xf7pl. I've been trying to make some notes about the files. They are here: http://www.tiny.cc/ov_map. I'll update that more as I can. Should have a little more time, now that I'm not running. I wish I knew more about these files, but I don't. I have my suspicions, but yours are as good (probably better) than mine. I'll post them for as long as I can get them. I wish I could say that I thought shedding light on them would help, but you and I both know that no one will believe it.

I'm not sure a chat room is the solution. As I understand it, we aren't looking to enhance real-time communication between players. This thread is fine for that. However, this thread does have two other flaws.

One: we cannot use it to communicate directly with IG characters. Nor can they use it to communicate with us. A lot of sharing happened between characters and players via email. The real problem was that the characters wanted only certain information shared. Early in the game, players respected that. We seem to have resolved the issue of undersharing for now. As long as we keep sharing, this isn't that big of a deal...unless a point person goes missing.

Two: we haven't consistently updated any sort of summary. Coffeebean and I have both made initial stabs, but we've been delinquent with revisions. I'm worried that with only this one thread a summary will just get buried. I think we need to provide a link to the summary in our signatures.

1b/2b: we also had a suspected mole. I think we've--rightfully--given up on worrying about that. As long as our off-site communications aren't search engine indexed or discussed on IG sites, I don't think we need to worry about passwords.

I already typed this out once before my computer froze for the third time today (Should I worry that my computer freezes during virus scan Razz Thankfully this is the work PC, and as such is someone else's problem if it croaks).
This time it will be brief.

The Fourth Protocol is a movie/book. The wiki article is useful. I'm concerned that they're all going underground again and that we may be losing contact. In G's last email (last night, I didn;t up it because my time was limited yesterday), he said he expected to hearfrom T last night:
Quote:
Good. Please let your people know to expect an invitation referencing "127". Should be within the day for these IDs.

No word from T. If all is still on schedule he should be reaching his destination sometime later tonight.

I hope we can update Coffee's blog and use it for our uncluttered recaps. I have added a link to it in my sig.

I appreciate the feedback from Djinn, especially since I not yet sent them my thoughts on the proper channels. I was about to do that - or else I really don't have any place to complain - but I know they also read this board and Coffeebean did what I would have done, already.

Now we are clear about what's going on. That is good. No misunderstandings. Of course, they don't have to play it like everyone else does. And I think it's not sarcasm or anything, Coffeebean...I think it's the honest truth about what they had in mind and how that didn't work out with people used to the philosophy of UF (you can't change it, there is one and it's not about secrets).

Unfortunately, all the people they got on the game seem to have been recruited here. They do have a following because of Autumn Country and the other projects they got running or had running. But it doesn't seem like any of these outside people participate as of now. It's very likely that some people tried, but since they weren't trusted with information, they were completely cut off and all that was left was UF.
Because of this, the rules of UF apply as long as it's played on UF. They didn't quite take that into account it seems and they can't change everything, which is the big problem here.
But at least we know exactly, now.

I haven't played any chaotic fiction in more than a year. I wanted to get into something on the sidelines. Actually, that's what I always intend. I'm not big on interaction. I may not have time a few days from now or simply may not have any drive to proceed. I am moody like that. Which is why I never want to be someone to rely on when it comes to chaotic fiction. I do research and maybe help solving a puzzle.
I definitely do not want to be a liaison. Or even someone inside an inner circle. This is where I stand now and I just happen to have chosen precisely this type of game I can't play.

On the other hand, I'm damn curious. I really enjoyed the part with the collateral files. This one, not so much. But it's still interesting.
So, now I have to ask myself if I stand by or live up to my word which was that I'd quit as soon as it's confirmed that this isn't a public project.

Mmmmh. Confused

not much....

Ok....so now you all know.....I HATE BATS! lol
Seriously though, the word Enemy and Prevention are too big to just be a coincindence. So, I'll keep looking at it, until my eyes cross.

Glad you're staying, A... I was sitting on that fence a month ago too, trying to decide which way to go. I am glad I stayed, even though it is not exactly what I expected.

Surf has sent me all of the private emails he could find, and I will be adding them to wordpress (late tonight probably). If anyone else has files/emails/anything they want added, send them.

PM me for my email if you need it.

I think we should try to twitter around 10pm...seems to be the usual pattern. If you haven't joined www.twitter.com, please do so.
(10 pm is in Ohio- thats EDT - same time as Wa D.C.)

(I'll add my sig line later - this is running VERY slow today 4me)

Enemy Prevention of Easter Hula HaHaook

It took me a little while to get your methodology, but I did and here's what I got from it:

Enemy Prevention
Put A Mast Both
Nearest Truth Hook Half A*
YS???
*I'm not sure how to order this line.

I don't think it amounts to anything beyond a solid testament to the human mind's strong desire to find meaning in noise. Granted it's no moth bats. . . Razz

So tonight we expect more from TPetal via Twitter. Not that he has anything new...it really looked more like creating a new trailhead than anything else. And Germain should provide us with an update on Tristan's delivery of the laptop to J2.

You all will work on the cipher, and I'll try to make some progress on summarizing the last few days.

Edit: we never did anything about contacting Mike the Finnish Poet, either, for that matter.

I'm concerned that GF meant we were supposed to hear about the laptop last night.

I have some files you may want to up for the recap, too. I'll send them to the address you provided earlier.

more shots at the cipher

Coffeebean:
Ok, I'm not going to the IG board - don't have the access, anyway - and just work with what I get here, until that isn't enough any more.

Back to the cipher (well, first time I'm trying):

You must be on the right track, because "enemy" and "prevention" can't fall out of nowhere.
However, applying that method to the rest causes two continuity problems:
a) If you assume that one of the letters in any row leads you to a string that is directly anagrammed into one word, but the other two produced strings need to be combined to get another word (or more than one since the strings get very long)...then the second row already doesn't seem to work, because at best you can turn TPUA into "up at". That's two words though. But maybe that doesn't matter. However, the other two don't really seem to make sense on their own.
b) The last letter in the third row is actually the last letter of that row and this raises the question where you are supposed to apply the method...in the same row on second position or on the next one? That slightly changes the resulting string, not that much of a worry.

Anyway, the third batch again produces "eastern" for just one letter. And the other two combined don't turn up anything sensible in an anagramming tool.
Plus, the last group is just YS and that can't stand by itself, right?
Maybe you are supposed to add it to the other one (the two of the third group). If I try that in the anagramming tool I get too many results, though. Perhaps trying just the list of words to see if something jumps out?

Here's a thought:
If you take only those string which anagram into words by themselves you end up with
"Enemy up at eastern"
or
"Enemy up at nearest"
No idea about the YS, though.

Finally, the second batch almost anagrams to
"ambush at top"
with one 'T' left over.

Update:
"Enemy prevention. Ambush up at top [T remains, perhaps put it back on the end?]. North-east of Lake AHHRTU YS"
Only works with the second method described in b) . Otherwise there are just too many Hs. Could that spell a lake you know in any way?
I don't think so. Razz

lord love a brax. Very Happy glad you're still here.

the IG board is down, probably for good.

I worked for about an hour along lines very similar to yours, which makes me feel like it wasn;t so futile after all. I got "Put A" from the second bunch, but don;t recall about the third.

For the time being, I'm being called away from allentown. I have to visit old friends in Springfield, though I've no idea what state. Wink

no twittering no tweeting

Doesn't look like we are going to get any more info (tonight? or ever?)

I think we are on right track with the crypt...but I am thinking it's "prevent" or "event" to use the other letters with something else. Same for eastern...maybe just 'east' or none of the above. It might also be down one letter (instead of including the one counted left or right) which makes middle word TO (but then why arent the other words just one word?) UGHHH

Use F5 to update twitter....obviously it can't do it itself.

odd. the production journal has changed. . . a lot. odd indeed. is 127 still down? I've not herd back from G.

I was thinking about the cypher: could the "odd letter out" be the one whose associated letters are meant to be anagrammed together, and the other two be the ones to anagram together? I'd need ot look at it to be sure, and I don;t have it in front of me at the moment.

PC11 is up: http://overwatch.visualfiction.net/number2/blind/ov_p-c11.htm

I'm woried about this 127/G situation (in an IG way) and the weird revision at the production journal makes me a little uneasy in a OOG, meta kind of way.

Sorry, no work done on the recap. I'll get on that during the rest of the weekend.

PC11: key line was when Thalberg said "she was doing what I'm doing, infiltrating." I think we were on the money when we speculated that he was becoming a mole in the FBI. Especially given how he said that his handlers would be listening for people more interesting than him to say something. ...anyone else surprised it took this long for petal to post it? It's been over a week since we got the google maps update?

Production Journal changes: irrelevant over the longhaul. We know what's up for now and we'll adapt to their actions just as they've adapted to ours.

Other changes: I'm less worried about the shutdown of 127 than I am about the changes at FoF. FoF changes were unforeseen.

Those of you pounding at the cipher: want to try showing it to fresh eyes in the UF IRC chat?
