ARG Articles Some new stuff has been indexed by Google and is showing up:
Jane McGonigal has done a very interesting research paper entitled "This Is Not a Game": Collective Subjectivity and Immersive Entertainment.
Also looks like ARGN was mentioned somehow in a Yugoslav (?) site . Anybody know how to translate?
So, we can add these to the Technophilia article and the LA Times article for some interesting ARG-related readling, fwiw.

Often times, immersive fans find games where there really aren't games. Most recently, the web site 8March2003.com was forced to replace its home page with a disclaimer, "due to the overwhelming response and conflicting information about its purpose" (2) Cloudmakers and other players, after targeting it as a potential game, had flooded the site owner with visitor traffic and inquiries, and in their attempts to "solve" it, the disclaimer says, "innocent people have been implicated in the creation of this site" (4). As you can imagine, an audience that is used to being told "This is not a game" does not back off easily, but the immersive fans eventually gave up the 8March2003 (non)game.
I was under the impression that he came out to tell everone that it WAS a game and wasn't some psycho loony site.

He never actually said what it was or wasn't, just that everyone was wrong. *ahem*psycho*cough*

There's a new article in the March 3, 2002 issue of Business Week magazine talking about the Linux revolution and how "open-source software programming" is taking on Microsoft's dominance. You can find an online version of the article here .
What does this have to do with ARG's and immersive campaigns? Nothing directly, but I do see parallels between the two ideas and how "collective intelligences" can come together to create something revolutionary.
I didn't see if the online copy also had this segment, but in the magazine there is a small article on "egoboo". Egoboo is a term that referrs to the rush someone gets from public recognition, especially tasks done for free. Sound like the feeling one gets after solving a complex puzzle? Egoboo is so sought after in some circles that it is held above bonuses and stock options...Hmmm, public recognition over monetary reward? Interesting.
If you get a chance, read the article and then share your thoughts.

An interesting article on There Inc. and the metaverse they are creating. Image an ARG where your Avatars interact with in-game characters in real-time instead of e-mailing them. [/drool]
The article can be found here .

I cannot believe that www.chasingthefish.com got a prominent mention in the New York Times!!! Congrats to all of the other webmasters and PMs who got their work highlighted in this article.

Well, maybe he didn't dig deep enough, but my personal fav game so far (Lockjaw) was NOT a promotional tool for any kind of product, exept maybe Iduna apples.
BTW, we're still waiting for LockJaw II, you guys.

I have a headache. Might be because of wading through that message board. Might be something...else.

Hmm, have there been some posts deleted in this thread? Some stuff doesn't seem to make sense any more.

I know that some people have been deleteing their own posts, for whatever reason. This would definitely contribute to a thread not making sense anymore
I, for one, and much too narcissistic to delete any of my incessant ramblings though

you mean i can delete stuff? hmm, jamesi, I didn't think I could delete anything after someone had replied to it? Only edit comes up for me, maybe you need special powers or something that I don't have. Not that I wish I could take back anything I ever wrote.

Ah, perhaps. I'm looking through administrator's eyes, so my view is obviously jaded.
