What I learned at the Whitney biennial: web-based projects

For anyone interested in web-based projects. The Whitney Biennial has on view two websites:

"learning to love you more"

http://www.learningtoloveyoumore.com/

where people can choose to make an art assignment which is then exhibited somewhere around the world

and, a personal favorite,
"velvet glove"

http://www.opensorcery.net/velvet-strike/

Where people can download or create anti-violence graffiti and spray it within the game "Counter Strike"

Info on the Whitney Biennial is here:
http://www.whitney.org/exhibition/index.shtml

along with a link to net art
http://artport.whitney.org

Doesn't anyone like the idea of adding graffiti to an online game? I had fun at the exhibit showing some people who have never used a computer how to add their message. They were thrilled to actually create something on-line and they got to interact with the art. People actually asked if it was OK to use the laptop. I guess we are used to not touching art.

BTW, the Whitney Biennial is a show put up by the Whitney Museum of American Art, yes, every other year, that tries to be a current snap shot of contempory American art. It's usually controversial; and quite often is truly bad. This time they have done well, I think most people will enjoy it.
