Amber Alert Is Issued for Oregon Baby
Mentally Ill Mother Has Made Threats to Child's Life

SHADY COVE, Ore. (March 19) - Authorities in Oregon have issued an Amber Alert for a five-month-old baby, allegedly taken Friday morning by his mother from his father's home in Shady Cove, in southern Oregon.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said the child, whose name is Anthony Pintarelli, weighs 21 pounds, and has dark hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a Snoopy T-shirt and wrapped in a blue blanket.

Capt. Joe Puckett, from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, said the child's mother, Ashley Garbandt, has recently been released from a mental health facility, and has previously made threats to kill the child.

She was last seen driving a champagne-colored Nissan with California license plate number 4FBJ950. Puckett said she is believed to be heading for California.

He added that the child has a medical condition, and needs a machine to help him breathe, but that the mother allegedly did not take any of that equipment with her.

Amber Alerts are bulletins, distributed through radio and television broadcasts and electronic highway signs, on kidnapped children and their abductors. They are named after Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old girl abducted and later found murdered in Texas.
