another point of interest:
There is an old Japanese myth about an Ajari Joan, who was a Buddhist priest that loved a girl, which is a sin. He became an okuma, a devil, and destroyed his own temple. As an old man he recovered his wits and sat down to pray. He went on muttering prayers after he died, becoming a praying skeleton.

doesn't mean anything now of course... but keep in mind?

Re: skeletons

last thing about the damn skeletons - there is another print of a skeleton from the original 1713 Anatomy of the Humane Body, by William Cheselden, and that is the one w/both knees down that's become popular on everything from mugs to wrist warmers to tshirts, etc. I have a copy of the image, but I don't know how to post it. Someone who knows how can find it by doing a Google Image Search for "praying skeletons" - 2nd page of search results, 4th pic on the top row.

I mention this only b/c there's a roman number above the skeleton's head in what looks to be the original print. It's XXXVI - 36. Probably nothing, but you never know; file it away for possible future use.

So, I've been searching around for the t-shirt rob is wearing but haven't found it. I think the shirt may be a "Day of the Dead" shirt because of the use of the Spanish phrase "Adios", in conjunction with two praying skeletons and a butterfly -- that commonly signifies transition (i.e. death). The festival is generally a time of celebration of people who have died.

Quote:

Though the subject matter may be considered morbid from the perspective of some other cultures, celebrants typically approach the Day of the Dead joyfully, and though it occurs at the same time as Halloween, All Saints' Day and All Souls Day, the traditional mood is much brighter with emphasis on celebrating and honoring the lives of the deceased, and celebrating the continuation of life; the belief is not that death is the end, but rather the beginning of a new stage in life.

Could this be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the possibility that we are "celebrating" (via Myspace) the lives and experiences of people who will die on January 18, 2008?

Dia De Los Muertos is November 1st and November 2nd. Perhaps we can expect a big update on those days?

The skeleton image looks suspiciously familiar to the skeleton image used in a Not of this World t-shirt...

Not that the religious connotations haven't been beaten to death or anything already.

thanks macron181. That Buddhist myth is interesting, and worth looking into.

Does anyone know what kind of butterfly/moth is on Rob's shirt? I've been looking through butterfly identification websites and there's a lot of damn butterflies & moths out there. That pattern on the wings is pretty distinctive, though - we should be able to identify it.

It could be a real shirt, but it could have just been made by the people behind this ("puppet masters"? is that the right term? this is my first ARG Embarassed ). If that's true, then it might not be just a fake reference to a fake band (or whatever). It might contain a coded clue, or clues. Or, it could just be some dark humor - "Adios" & an apocalyptic image.

If Rob's shirt contains some kind of coded clue(s), then JJ's shirt might also be involved, since they're standing together in several pics that show up on both Rob's and JJ's myspace pages. - showing them so often seems like another attempt to draw our attention to them. So, the word/name "Augie" might also play a role.

Can someone try to get as clean an image as possible of Rob's tshirt and post it up here? That kind of thing is waaay beyond my primitive "skills" w/the internet.

rob's shirt

final thought...

On Hawk's myspace pics, there are 2 pics of Rob's "Adios" shirt, one is a repeat closeup from Rob's pic page, the other is one of the best full shots of the shirt, but the lower part is out of frame, and Rob's sweater also blocks some of image.

On Rob's myspace pics, there are 5 (out of 6) pics that show the "Adios" shirt. In each picture, though, something blocks part of the image, e.g., his arm when he's swinging at the pinata, the pinata itself (being held by someone else), rob's sweater and the fact it's a closeup (in 2 pics), and in the best full shot pic, Rob is making that weird/goofy gesture that, btw, causes the top of his shirt to wrinkle, blocking whatever is at the top meeting point of the two beasty-winged-things/angels? that frame the edges of the whole image.

Could all these "adios" pictures be a puzzle? They arrange each shot so that a different part of the image on the shirt is blocked, making it a challenge just to get a complete image assembled; that would point to clues/codes being hidden in the image on the shirt.

eskimo photo of Lilly Ford

To respond to the question, that picture of Lilly is in downtown Budapest, Hungary.

The dark building on the left is the Budapest Marriott. The hill on the right is Gellért Hill. The picture itself is taken from the Széchenyi Chain Bridge. The bridge in the background is the Erzsébet Bridge.
