The irony, it burns me.

Well, I guess the goal of this thread is to discover whether or not this is actually a game or just an extended viral marketing campaign. To do that, we'd need to find a clear puzzle that needs solving. The Slusho site could have easily been guessed at after seeing either the shirt in the trailer, or the Slusho vans and t-shirt wearing crew at the shoot sites. Flipping the pictures over is arguably a puzzle, but it's such a trivial thing some person was bound to discover it easily anyways. The pictures did give us a few names to work off of and we definitely would not have found the myspace pages without the photos, but this seems more common sense stuff than "Here's some pictures of atoms lined up in an equation. Solve for x." which turned out to be the abbreviations for the atomic elements forming a web address in 'the Beast' ARG.

Since many ARG's involve a deep conspiracy covering up information about an event, and a few whistleblowers trying to reveal the truth without revealing their identities to the conspiring party, we're hoping that somewhere deep in the heart of things that the people at Slusho have ulterior motives and will eventually be revealed as the reason why a monster is attacking new york.

Alternatively, there doesn't have to be a conspiracy or a whistle-blower. It could be that in the MySpace pages for the characters, they will begin to post comments on/pictures of things that they don't even realize have "significance" in a meta sense. In this way, the "G" of this ARG would really be the detective work of putting together the clues that something weird is going down in the characters' world. Indeed, if past performance is any indication of future returns, then this seems more likely than any other scenario, because it's exactly how we've gotten this far: a guy wore a seemingly innocent shirt in a home video (that also happened to capture a monster attack on New York), and a girl wrote her name on the back of a photo.

The implication of this approach is that there'd be no need to bust out the super-esoteric stuff or even the standard lateral thinking (steganography, dissection of sounds/music, looking for codes and anagrams, etc.)- if this is the route the fiction is taking, then it's only harmed by the speculation generated by massive over-analysis.

If you believe (as I do) that this is the case, then we should be looking at the sites we know about (1-18-08, Slusho, the MySpace pages) not for "hidden" data, but rather for clues in plain sight about where or what to look for next, and our "payoff" will be a slow leak of backstory about the film.

Of course, if we receive any indication that someone/some group/some thing "in-game" is trying to communicate with us and there's actually something for us to interact with, then all bets are off and I'll be happy to join on the crazy depth-plumbing bandwagon. (The Slusho e-mail address may or may not be the start of this; I guess we'll see.)

This is pretty interesting nonetheless

Hey all, I'm new to the party here, but thought I'd chime in with some interesting findings. Some of the below information could possibly be considered "spoilers" regarding the possible ARG and related movie trailer. Read on at your own discretion.

So I went and saw The Transformers tonight. (excellent, btw) Before the movie, there was this odd trailer. Fascinating, but odd. There was no mention of a title, and just a VERY fast flicker of a credits page. All the information that was released was "1-18-08". Naturally, I raced home and typed in "1-18-08.com" and sure enough, it looks like it might be linked. So, here's some info:

First, read this rundown, it's a good description of the trailer:
JJ Abrams article
(super wide URL hidden with a link, and /#comment-26691 removed from end of URL -- catherwood)

Then, check out the website I found:
http://1-18-08.com (note: the picture here looks very similar to the "feel" of the trailer)

I took the liberty of running a whois on the site. It was created back in March. Definitely sounds like a ramp-up for some viral marketing, or perhaps even an ARG! Smile Note the names in the whois information. Usually businesses will put their contact info here, or more likely, keep it anonymous. I'm wondering if the information displayed here might possibly be linked to more clues in the (possible) ARG. Whois link:

And some text from the whois, just in case:

You know, I find it pretty funny; the guy who started this thread hasn't posted a single word since. Do you think he's ever even stopped by to check up on this? Weird.

Oh, and I don't see anything upside-down... care to elaborate on that?

Did anything ever come of the Albert Pike/Freemasonry/George Washington Masonic Temple thing? Or was it a dead end (so far)?

you know... that just might have been a puppet master. one post in all this time, interesting.

any arg experts care to comment on what that could mean, or at least if it's common? this forum is the most up to date, and well known for this sort of thing. maybe jj is watching us chase our own tails after all?

whatever it is we have, i'm thinking after the speech, jj wants an iconic american monster, so of course it has to attack NYC, and of course it has to destroy the SOL--these are things that scream America.

maybe this first part with jj pretending theres not much, (thinking about that aicn email) will be a mini arg, and after the movie will be a full blown arg, refreshing the hype and leading up to a sequal. basically securing his monster, a place in movie history for generations.

so how many of you are gonna wear slusho gear to the premiere?
