considering the poster, there is still debris coming off the SOL

considering the trailer
the events move rapidly from a tremor, to an explosion (possibly the monster coming up from down under) and then the SOL head coming down the street

the guy saying "I saw it its alive its huge"- how did he see it, I don't think he would have seen it coming toward him, he was already on the roof with other people, how was he the only one to see it?
he might of seen it between a building? or a trail of some sort and an arm or a head

I think it plausible that he came down through the city, up through the street and over to the SOL throwing the head back toward the party (the claw marks coming up from toward the midback ripping off a large chunk including the head might support this, as his claw was swiping up not down)

unless there is more than one monster

hmm... An interesting idea.
What this could mean is that the characters in the trailer were intended for the trailer and ARG purpose only. If their encounter with the monster was so brief, it wouldn't make a good movie at all, would it?

Maybe the "juicier" home videos will form the actual movie...

On the other hand, maybe the monster comes around for a second attack.
Either way, I tend to agree that the monster moved FROM Manhattan TO the SOL.

 OH MY GAH

how would a "attack" have to happen for the monster to rip its head of from the left side of the SOL and then jump right dive into the water and then emerge to get to manhattan?

This is one theory, but it is just as possible that this monster through something else, or could shoot laser beams or something like (like some versions of godzilla). I doubt he could shoot laser beams, but just like there was a crash near the party due to the head, there could've been an explosion in manhattan due to another projectile.

The monster might have been at the statue the entire time, and is only throwing stuff before it comes.

Although you have to ask yourself. As a filmmaker, what's more fun to watch: a giant monster attacking the Manhattan skyline? Or a giant monster attacking New Jersey?

LOL. "The Beast that ate Newark!"

But seriously, as I said, the events in the trailer could just be the first "sortie". It's more than likely that even if this is true, the monster's coming back for more.

I have my skepticism because when you look at the poster, it clearly shows the most recent ripples in the water come from when the monster is near manhattan. This is proof that the monster doesn't leave manhattan, but rather goes towards it after he tears the head off.

Got to go but before i do wanted to show you this:
If I knew how to make spaces in-between paragraphs on this damn site I'd post all the similarities between the trailer and Hindu myths, as we all know Hindu myths are something Abrams likes to sneak into Lost, but I don't feel like posting a wall of text no one will read. Instead, I'll just say this: Shiva (the destroyer) was often depicted with a severed head, the Statue of Liberty is decapitated in the trailer. Also, a ritual know as Paryaya (which takes place once every two years) just happens to take place on 1-18-08. Coincidence? I think not.

Found it on a site today.

Well, according to the Earth Calendar, 1/18/08 is "Maintenance Day" in the United States. Looks like Lady Liberty's gonna need some *serious* maintenance...

And Paryaya... have you even read what it is?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paryaya

Oooo... Scary...

According to Wikipedia, 1/18/08 is also "Winnie the Pooh Day." So the monster must be a giant yellowish-orange bear.

Sorry for the irreverence. I just don't feel Abrams is going to go that religious here.

1-18 5th pic

Before this evolves to a what is the monster thread, back to the 5th pic. I see the center guy is the 11$ bucks guy - who are the girl and right side guy?

I'm assuming 11 bucks guy is Platt? I saw it mentioned he was referred to as the camera guy - but surely it's cameraguy for this photo and not cameraguy from the trailer cause that's 11 bucks guy. It seems the right side guy is Rob but hard to really tell. The chick doesn't look familiar. What's the story there?

Also noticed her curious punctuation - or lack of it. She puts a comma after Lansco, a period after Robbie, a comma after here, and after Love. But she doesn't use an apostrophe for Im (gonna). In case it's relevant or just fluff, the line "use my photo to spread my hotness far and wide" seems to be a standard whore train line on MS. I've seen that a number of times in the last year or so when I was on there and always figured it was a little egocentric and shallow (flakey)...so this girl's writing style seems to paint her as basically an attention whore and flirty toward Rob. Referring to him as Robbie suggests she's known him many years from his "Robbie" days - or else she thinks she's far closer to him than she is, hence attention whore.

I suggest that because the 3 of them are in this photo and it seemed to me that 11 bucks guy and Rob go way back too, or have been longer term friends...so these 3 could be the core pals while the others spiral out around them. He'd want a pic of his closest ones. But I still say the chick is an attention whore.

I still haven't sat down to go through the myspace pages...waiting for some quiet time to focus and get into it. Just wanted to ask if the right side guy is, in fact, Rob, and which chick the blonde is - or if she's been IDd trailerwise or is she new? Both guys look like they're wearing the same shirt tho....

If you look close at the buildings, there are huge claw marks on them. So it has to have already been through there.

What I meant to say was the buildings on the Poster.

I seriously doubt that Hudson Platt is 11$ dude. They just don't look alike, not on 1-18-08, and not on Hud's myspace. He has no facial hair, and generally looks nothing like 11$ dude.

not the $11 guy.
center guy = most likely Hud Platt
blonde = Jamie Lascano
right guy = most likely Rob

$11 guy looks totally different and has a lot more facial hair. Cameraguy in photo just has a day's worth.

My list keeps getting lost in the shuffle so i'll just keep periodically reposting the up-to-date version.

Note: the numbers I picked are completely arbitrary except I put Jamie first, since her name was the first solid clue leading us to Myspace.

1. Jamie Lascano - http://www.myspace.com/jamielascano
Clue: her name was found on Photo #5 (1-18-08.com)
She is blonde - but doesn't seem to be the blonde girl who speaks to the camera in the teaser
Party girl (lots of booze-related stuff on her page)
In her survey, it says she likes to eat at Witchcraft (but she spells it wrong http://wichcraftnyc.com/ )
Lists her religion as "wiccan"
Mentions a "Linds" (Lindsay?) who isn't one of the myspace friends here
Originally from Weymouth, MA; attended Ithaca College
Links images from this photobucket site: http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z234/sarahnettleute/

2. Rob Hawkins - http://www.myspace.com/robbyhawkins
"Main dude" (as seen in teaser)
His brother is JJ Hawkins / "Hawk"; has multiple photos with his brother
Lives with his brother and Hud (apparently); no photos with Hud, though
Works in marketing
Listed as single
He dislikes MySpace and joined reluctantly
His first blog post was 1-17-2007 7:38 PM (one year before the events of the teaser)
Picture of Dominick Hawkins (baby) in a blog - whose baby is this?
Originally from Minneapolis, MN; attended NYU
Links images from this photobucket site: http://s199.photobucket.com/albums/aa222/robbyhawkins/

3. Lily Ford (Lil) - http://www.myspace.com/lily_ford
Dating JJ Hawkins
Seen in the teaser dancing with JJ Hawkins, then on the street with Rob and Marlena (towards the end)
Works for Penguin Publishing
Hillary Clinton supporter
She is presumably the girl on the right in Photo #1 (1-18-08.com)
Originally from Toronto, ON, Canada

4. Hudson Platt ("Hud") - http://www.myspace.com/hudsonplatt
Comic book fan
Lives with Rob and Hawk
Seems to be the guy behind the camera during the teaser (see photo #5 from 1-18-08.com)
"HUD" also stands for "heads-up display", enforcing his behind-camera status
Occupation: interning at a film/video/tv studio? (mentions working with an "editor")
Claims that people tend to forget his name (again enforces his status as the anonymous observer)
Does not have Marlena friended on myspace
Originally from Springfield (MA?)

5. Beth Mcintyre - http://www.myspace.com/beth_mcintyre
Brunette; third girl to speak to camera in trailer
She notes that Rob is her "best friend" who "cheers her up when down" in a survey on her blog
Originally from Imperial Beach, CA; attended NYU (with Rob)

6. JJ Hawkins ("Hawk", and one of the J's is for Jason) - http://www.myspace.com/jj_hawkins
"Slusho shirt guy" from the teaser (also mentioned towards the end, possibly: "where's Jason? Has anybody seen Jason?")
Lives with Rob (his brother) and Hud
Dating Lily Ford
Unemployed (and proud of it)
Sports fan (blog post about NHL hockey)
Mentions drinking Slusho in one of his blog posts
Originally from Minneapolis, MN
OOG: Shares initials with producer JJ Abrams

7. Marlena Diamond ("lenadia" on Myspace) - http://www.myspace.com/marlenadiamond
First girl (brunette) to speak to the camera in the teaser ("What is this for?")
She is presumably the girl on the left in Photo #1 (1-18-08.com)
Multiple hair colors in her past photos, sometimes blonde (seems likely that some of them are OOG pics of the actress)
Works for Atlas Talent Agency and wants to be a fashion designer
Also a party girl (blogs while drunk)
Lists her religion as Jewish
She does not have "Hud" friended on myspace
Originally from Rowayton, CT; attended Lyme Academy College Of Fine Arts

ALSO: In the teaser, but not on MySpace (yet?):

8. The first blonde ("Rob's awesome, I'm gonna miss him")

9. The scruffy white guy ("You owe me $11" and "this is gonna be the best night ever")

10. The asian guy in the cap ("He's, like, your main dude")

What about Utah huh, no one cares about Utah.

Because Manhattan and the SOL are iconic representations of America.
