I also vote for drinking. And smoking. And other stuff that is bad for you. We just have to make sure that our underage friends can come along.

Yep, same here, I think, probably...it's not too much trouble.

I'm cool with whatever you guys want to do. In relation to bar-hopping, I think I should mention that I apparently don't even look 19, let alone 21, so places that card would maybe present a problem. I also suffer from a tragic lack of fake ID.

Ok, let's try this one more time.

How about the weekend of April 30th? I'll be in New York until Monday (May 3rd), and any time/place is basically good for me. That is more than a month away, and tickets can still be found cheap... Smile

I'm almost tempted to book a plane... but I'm not gonna Crying or Very sad

Can I still vote for drinking though? Although the gastronomical stuff sounds quite good as well... have some Duvel & Père Joseph on me Joe Mr. Green

Ah well, I'll just be celebrating Queensday then and think about you guys while walking through Amsterdam in orange clothes Confused

Well, what about one of those little restaurants in the Village that have those adorable courtyards - that way we can combine gastronomical and drinking stuff; and Omnie can sit there sipping sparkling water and envying her more mature friends? Or we could do it the Russian way and just drink vodka out of plastic cups on a bench in Central Park.

Hah. And then I can sit there and laugh at all the drunk people and proceed to make fun of you for the next six months. That never ceases to be amusing.

Also, food is good. I like food.

I didn't play MU

This is a great idea and I hope I can join you all --sadly, that is a busy weekend for me-- but I will do my best.

Yanka, no restaurants in the Village with courtyards come to mind but three places I have tried and can suggest are:

Bar Pitti reviewed at:
http://www.newyorkmetro.com/pages/details/2178.htm

The City Bakery
http://www.newyorkmetro.com/pages/details/2193.htm

and
Jane (which is a little more expensive)

these are all near the area you are talking about, but the neighborhood is filled with choices.

Also, Bagsbee is the source of all knowledge on restaurants in Chinatown and other places. You should write a guide book bags.

Do you know, I went through that tunnel from that direction the other day, and they still hadn't fixed the sign? It's still all screwy and weird.

You should get more video of it and post it on some obscure website with nothing else there, so we can all scramble to find some meaning in it... That should give you a good laugh... Wink

Porch Bar

OK in the interests of solidifying plans, I'm recommending that we meet at the Porch Bar, it's on Ave. C between 6th & 7th. I've never been to Porch Bar myself but I've read good things about it (Sheckys also has a nice review). It has an outdoor garden (read, smoking section), food, and most importantly, drinks. Plus it's in a cool location.

It's located in what the locals would call either Alphabet City (because of the letter avenues A, B, C and D) or L.E.S. (Lower East Side), but some have taken to calling it the East Village because a) both the above names sort of have negative connotations, and b) that makes it more trendy and hip Smile. It's a really cool, funky neighborhood.

The place opens at 4pm, let's plan on getting there around that time. If it sucks or we just wanna move on, there are literally hundreds of bars within walking distance, and most bars in that area don't card, so Omnie should have no trouble.

EDIT: D'oh, forgot to put a date Smile Saturday, May 1st, if everyone's OK with that.

Ugh. The East side. Might as well be in Siberia.

(sigh) I'll be there.

In New York we have these things called Taxicabs, they take you where you want to go, and in return, you give them money.

Honestly Joe it's not that far out of the way, at least it's Manhattan. Take the L train to 1st Ave., it's a 3 minute cab ride or 15 minute walk from there.

The East Side is where rich old people go to die. The Lower East Side is where they go after they're dead to feast on the brains of West-Siders who venture too far into Alphabet Soup. So despair all ye who make the trip to Porch Bar, lest ye can leave your brain at home!

Well they don't so much feast on the brains as they do extract the vital juices from them, sorta like a pomegranate.

And blame Yanka for the location, she wanted the shee-shee outdoor garden Razz

I look forward to some serious drinking with you all. Good times, good times...
