Automatic Email Reply
Based on the Subject-Line

Basically, im making a very simple, beginning ARG. What I want to do is have the user email, lets say alexSPLATaol.com, and 'Alex' would respond variously based on the subject line.

For isntance, if you email her with the subject of 'Hello', you would get a response 'Hi', but if your subjectline said 'Goodbye', then she would respond with 'Good-bye'.

Now, money is an object, im not paying anything for this. Im sufficient enough to program something like this, if thrusted in the right direction.

Of course, I did search Google before posting.

Anyone know of a way to do this? I know there is an auto-response thats used on common email providers, but you cant make that reply for a subject line, therefor its a linear reply.

Anyone know of a way?

MS Outlook comes to mind.
It has a pretty robust rules engine.

A really quick and cheap (free!) solution would be to use a web-hosted email, and create email addresses for each possible subject line - hialexSPLATgooglemail.com, byealexSPLATgooglemail.com, bringhomesomemilkalexSPLATgooglemail.com etc.

It's not massively realistic, but it's fairly fool-proof.

I can second Outlook. I used it for something similar - though it was based on the body instead of the subject. It probably isn't the most elegant of solutions, but it's easy and, if you have it, cheap Smile

Thunderbird would be another option. The only reason I didn't use it, at the time, was because it was my primary mail application and I didn't want all the filters (I had dozens and dozens of them) making it difficult to find my normal ones.
