Random theory

For me, the sound the monster makes seems to be very important.

The sound right before the statue of liberty head is thrown doesn't sound like an organic monster, it sounds more mechanical to me...

"I saw it, it's alive! It's huge!" - Doesn't mean that it has to necessarily be alive, it could be something people don't expect to move on it's own...not to mention something 300' tall robot tearing up your city

I'm not suggesting another "LOL IT'S VOLTRON" thing, but it could be something mechanical.

The robots on the slusho sight could be a support for this theory as well...

(Wow, that would be so lame if this were right...)

Re: Hmmm
no clue but speculative

My opinion/speculative statement for now would be that the central figure of a Chimera or Griffyn, or that sort of mythological creature is still way to obvious for the likes of this film. I may be a huge literary "geek" lol but they just seem to "common" for Abrams to take the time to produce a film using them as a central figure. Mind you that opinion is just that. =)
I'm convinced it's not Godzilla, although when a co worker and I stumbled into this whole thing earlier today, I immediately got jacked up that Gamora was in the works. But then I thought better of it.
I loved that character as a kid. God bless that Turtle. =)

All the physics in the trailer, regarding that massive "explosion" are what is really intriguing me now. The SOL head could've been blown off into downtown, or could've been thrown by something, etc. But the explosion itself is very very mysterious. Something detonated somehow....and shot something else high into the air, everywhere...then they exploded secondary up in the sky. The only thing that comes to mind is that a gas depot was blown up, and barrels of crude were hurtled into the air and they then blew up themselves.

Anyway, back to the original topic here:
The explosion was caused it seems by whatever crawled into the city. But, due to the absence of the creature visibly I can't conclude that it was caused by a random destructive act.
The explosion looked very very controlled, as if it was a result of something beforehand.
Still thinking on that one.

PS: great site....and thanks for listening.

Drink Slusho!

peace.
=)

I only meant "chimera" in the loosest sense, i.e., not a uniform looking thing, like a lizard, or dinosaur, or lion, or even a turtle. J.J. Abrams did say, at ComiCon, that it would be "insane and intense" and there does seem to be this recurring theme of mixing flavors (good call, Guest!).

Chimera
some comments on this speculation

Melampus wrote:
This is all very sketchy, but consider the following:

1. The possible "Chimera" find by "Guest" a few posts back...

2. Kayberry's recent post arguing that there should have been more impact tremors from foot-stomps (more than what were portrayed in the trailer),

3. There's a pic. in Hawk's myspace page that's got a dog's foot in view and a message from lily refers to the dog as "Griff". Possibly short for "Griffin" - a mythical beast that's part lion (ugh... don't even start) and part eagle (or any big bird o' prey, e.g., a Hawk). Sometimes the griffin is portrayed w/a serpent's tail, in which case it could also be called a "Chimera."

4. In the image on the "adios" shirt that Rob is wearing in several pics on myspace, there is a creature standing on the head of each skeleton that looks to be an amalgam of various other things - the head looks praying mantis...ish (see pic. where man is holding pinata on Rob's page), the torso looks bird-like, like a peacock or turkey (see pics. of rob and Hawk talking), and the tail/wings hanging down look almost leathery like batwings (in pic. where Rob is blindfolded and swinging at pinata).

All of these point to something that's an amalgam of different animals, and that can possibly fly (if not soar, at least short hops maybe). But, this is circumstantial evidence (at best).

I also believe these theories are the most interesting ones. The "Chimera" found the "Guest" earlier does ressemble the "Griffin" in many ways.

Let me point out that the Chimera is a monstrous creature of the Greek mythology, as Wikipedia states:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_%28mythology%29

It is also interesting that its name in Greek is "Χίμαιρα" (low-case characters except for the "X") or XIMAIPA (upper-case characters).
Its "mother" was another mythological creature, the "Echidna" or "Έχιδνα" (EXIΔΝΑ - upper-case) in Greek.

It is interesting that the characters "X" appears in both names. In Chimera, in appears at the beginning of the word. The use of "Chi" (X) at the beginning of words is not so uncommon in Greek as in English or latin languages, but maybe there exists some connection to the English word "SIX" that is frequently associated to the movie. It is well known, that "six" is also associated to evil presence, demons or the devil in many cultures and religions.

I am almost convinced that the 1-18-08 monster is an amalgam, just like the Chimera.

Why would a Chimera leave a wake in the water "ala the poster" when it has wings? Don't think thats the answer.

If it is a chimera, it may not have wings. As it was explained to me, a chimera is merely an amalgam of animals.

Wouldn't this go beyond the whole "original and never seen before" thing? The bottom line is that we're going to have to wait and see the movie before we know what the monster is. That's a plain and simple fact.

No. It'd fall in line perfectly.

Yes. But it's still EXTREMELY entertaining to spec... To me anyway....

The Roar

I don't think they would bury hints in the roar that you would have to have sound analyzing equipment to discover.

There's is definitely a woman's voice saying something before the roar.

But that you just have to listen to. To me it does sound like "the myth".

I am petrified to put this up because I HAVE NO IDEA HOW RELIABLE THIS IS it is just something I came across and haven't seen posted on this forum yet.

So don't attack me if this is fake, just look it over and decide for yourself

Notable items are clearly the large bird in the picture... and the end of what appears to be the word Slusho! on the side of the building

THIS HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED TO BE FROM A RELIABLE SOURCE - I just want to post it so everyone can dissect it and figure out if it is or not Smile

And if it were real, the pic makes it seem the bird or whatever is right at the corner of the building, implying it's rather small... and I think we all agree that the monster, whatever it may be, will be CG, right?

I'm Pretty sure that Nightowl and his croonies or wahtever already ran it through some analysis, and nothing came up that was worth mentioning.

Didn't Abrams say something about the creature totally being original. So I'm pretty sure that we can rule out anything that we may know as monsters.

Didn't he also say something about us being familiar with it somehow/it's recognizable or am I crazy? Somewhere during early July.

Can you find that quote again? Confirming or denying that would be important info. either way.

This is a *LOT* of speculation, but I'm going to say it anyway.

"The myth." What else sounds like "the myth"? They missed? Is it possible that the monster was attached to a meteor or something similar that crashed down? Perhaps "we"(America) knew about this meteor, and attempted to destroy it. "They missed." It crashes down, causing destruction, demolition, explosions- and clipped the head off the SOL. When it hit, it fragmented, and the pieces went everywhere, as is seen in the "fallout" debris landing near Rob & Co. When the meteor shattered, something alien was released. It continued the destruction out of fear.

The only problem I have with my theory- could a meteor large enough to carry the scale of monster we're looking for successfully crash down without decimating the city? Any other debunkers?
