an apology

To Sin Vraal:

Sorry you were offended. Really. It was not my intent to offend -- but to spec on what appeared out of the blue, and to note what to me were highly disturbing elements of the solve. In retrospect I believe I unfairly focused on the messenger, when it was the inconsistencies inherent in the message that disturbed me and sent me rushing off to post.

Realize that I've been doing this sort of gaming just about as long as you -- a fair amount by the standards of the industry, but not that long. My stating that I'm 100 percent sure is a far cry from assuming that I'm 100 percent right. If you reached your conclusions in the way stated, I accept it -- let's move on. Hopefully you'll accept that no personal slight was intended -- indeed, since my understanding is that a significant amount of info initiating the puzzles has come thru L3 contacting the players to send pieces of information, I did not think that viewing something as 'in game' would be a slight.

Now, as to the solution, I still have a problem -- though as noted above, that problem may be more with the PMs than you or those who helped you. If you're going to create a game setting and put puzzles in it, you destroy much of the sense of mystery when you so readily violate your own established premise of the game universe. Perhaps Jake will wind up being a time travelling protector of the continuum, and this will all ultimately make sense.

If not, then I still take great issue with the form of this puzzle solve. The PM's NRU press release of 1/7 establishes the age of the painting containing the markings. The PM's NRU press release of 1/17 'verifies' the dating of the painting, and establishes the pre-dating of the markings. So when the solution involves use of a set of signals 500 years before they have been created, and the solve itself uses a word that never existed until the past decade or so, I feel a bit ill-used by the game -- and since it is my impression that this game is still not totally formed, I'm not the sort that would keep that view silent -- in hopes that future materials will give a little more thought to being consistent with the rules of the setting they have chosen. Again, I'm sorry if I unfairly tarred you with the same brush.

First of all I want to tell Vraal how much I enjoyed his article. It was very funny.

Second, I'm really hoping that CD and Unfiction can work together on this 3rd test like we did on the first one. That was a great experience.

Third, there actually has been spec in irc about Jake being a time traveler. It would explain the inconsistencies and I'd like to think this game is not that poorly put together.

As to the map puzzle....I am completely clueless.

for the love of Jebus himself...

i just want to go on record to say that vraal exhibited the proper amount of humour and satire in his article. it was hi-larious. i only wish he had freelanced it to guysguise.com first Wink

in the immortal words of bon jovi, i'll be there for you, vraal. i know that sometimes, it's hard to convey satire to the common person. you are a good person. belie' dat.

i'm not sure what everyone's panties are in a bunch about as far as what's an acceptable puzzle. i mean, what do we know about L3?

there's this guy jake who needs our help. the end.

so how can there be all these limitations on how a puzzle is 'properly made' or whatever? tearing apart how a puzzle is constructed with as little background on the universe as we have is even more pointless than pointing out the inconsistencies in star trek's treknology.

besides, there's a reason some of us call it 'alternate reality gaming.' even if it doesn't make sense in our world...um, hello, it's a game. and the point is to have fun. Smile

Sorry, I don't want to add fuel to the fire; however...

Could the "artist" been a figure such as Nostradamus or Rimbaldi (for you Alias fans out there) who had visions of the future. If so, I could see how something such as "html" could work its way into a the painting.

Only some spec...

Elijah

Hi again

ElderofZion - Thanks for your words, man, I took no offense; I was feeling upset for the reason I said - I'm afraid of getting no further interviews with them now - they were actually *very* nice about the first one. Hopefully they or some of these other cute-n-cuddly PMs (points at Jamesi Very Happy) will let me spoof them in a good article in the future.

Now, with the risk of being labeled an L3'an (TM) again, I want to point out my Comment I added to my article. L3 *did* want it known that these puzzles are catered to us. Although I can only infer things from their statement (the one I posted my fluff around), I do believe they went out of their way to give us some additional challenges while we wait for their full game rollout.

I am purposely waiting a little to post my second article (what DID come of those dumpster papers?), if only because of this huge stir - but I'll tell you this much - the full-blown L3 "game" in whatever incarnation it is provided is still a bit off in the distance.

-SV (no, Cemgate, it does NOT stand for Saint Vincent).

See you leave for a couple of hours and it takes that long to catch up. I can assure you that Splinter is not a plant, or shill. I filled out the ap and got the mail. Sorry to take so long in responding, but real life and all . . . you know.

Now I hear there is a new map????

Splinter officially behind the pack now.

Help
