Fictional Worlds Gaming Exhibit in Stanford

If anyone is near Stanford, this might be fun to see (and it's free).

Fictional Worlds, Virtual Experiences: Storytelling and Computer Games
Computer games are a textual, visual, and interactive medium for telling stories and creating virtual worlds. Focusing on the evolution of storytelling in computer game development since the 1960s, this interdisciplinary and interactive exhibition lays out the history and cultural importance of interactive simulations, computer games, and video games, proposing that their innovations represent the most significant popular art form and emerging communication medium of the early 21st century. Guest curator is Henry Lowood, Curator for History of Science & Technology Collections, Stanford University Libraries

The week before last week was my spring break.

Now, I didnt even remember this thing, but my mom went to thte art museum with a visiting friend and came back and said "Hobie, you have to see this exhibit!"

So I did.

It was pretty cool... Lots of nostalgia, tons and tons of old games (in plexiglass cases, of course) - and also had avideo display on linear games vs. interactive gaems, a video/computer game history timeline, and a computer room where you could play three different games from different eras. (Zork, Monkey Island, Baulders Gate)

There was also a room that showed a huge demonstration of Sta Wars Galaxies (almost made me wonder if LucasArts payed for portions of the exhibit)

Anyhow, it was pretty cool.
