I'm pretty sure it's fake. How do I know? In an interview Abrams confirmed that the entire movie would be shot in handheld video camera style, as was with the trailer.

I'll be honest, the footage iesb gives doesn't look like that style at all.

 		It could still be hand-held, especially since the myspace stuff seems to be introducing us to a group. Guess we'll see tomorrow, huh?

The movie could very easily incorporate news casts, for example, which ofter have heavy, static cameras. Plus, this could be a newscast of something happening AWAY from NY (like an army brass meeting, which you can see at the end of the clip). We'll have to wait for their final video and see...

You misunderstood me. This footage is of someone who happened to be where the movie was being filmed. It's not the ACTUAL footage that will be in the movie. Actually, that helicopter is landing against a CG backdrop (the screen with the dots on it) - they use the dots as set points so they can fuse the real footage with the CG elements (maybe the chopper is landing across the river and you see NY burning in the background).

Also, the fact that the END RESULT will look like it's hand-held, doesn't mean it won't be achieved with some advanced filming techniques. It's actually become sort of a fashion in Hollywood lately to degrade images digitally (rather than enhancing them) - scratches, grain, and low saturation are added digitally to make the film look more like film.

 		i like the end, saying it's illegal to post on youtube.. when the "leaked" video was probably "illegally" stolen from the set.. lol Rolling Eyes

Seems carelessly suspicious for the makers to actually let someone, who happened to be where the movie was filmed, film some of the scene, especially when such a high sence of secrecy has been upheld on the production of the movie.

However the rest of your points are correct.

You're right. Since this site looks like it involves money, and apparently has some reputation with scoops, maybe it's a paid-for exclusive...

To build on what Het explained, if this is for a news cast then this is the 'raw' footage. As noted they're yet to have a background which would be added in later on. Reporter voices and news graphics would be done after the fact so you wouldn't see/hear them in a shot like that until it's seen on the TV in the film, if it is indeed for Cloverfield. Not having the reporter there allows them to adjust the volume levels at their own leisure so you'd get the dramatic sound of the helicopter, whilst also hearing the reporter/news anchor clearly.

I don't see anything that definitively says it is Cloverfield, but there's good reasons as to why it isn't definitively not Cloverfield either. It's a case of 'wait and see'.

Actually, on a side note, none of that sound will ever make it in to the movie. All that stuff is added in post production. They make fake chopper blade noises that sound better for the movie (5.1 surround etc.).
In the movie Titanic, for example, 100% of the audio was added in post. Including all the dialogue. The actors had to record voice overs of all their lines. They do this so that they have full control over things like balance, EQ, and effects (reverb to simulate large rooms, etc).
