Cookies

As I play the golden jigsaw as well, I've just changed the cookie settings in ff to delete them every time I close Firefox. Thanks for heads up by the way.

I'm thinking of sending them an email quoting those two contradicting terms and ask them how I can opy out of marketing emails.

Email

I have decided to send them an email so they can clarify their position.

Here is a copy of what I'm sending

Hi,

In your ToS you sate the following

"The information we collect is used to improve the content of
our Web pages, customize the content and/or layout of our pages for
each individual visitor, used to notify you about updates to our Web
site, used by us to contact you for marketing purposes via e-mail only
and not sold, leased or divulged to other organizations or entities
of any kind. The information we collect is used to improve the content of
our Web pages, customize the content and/or layout of our pages for
each individual visitor, used to notify you about updates to our Web
site, used by us to contact you for marketing purposes via e-mail only
and not sold, leased or divulged to other organizations or entities
of any kind."

But on the page that you sell the pieces you have stated the following

"Once the competition is closed advertisers will have
preferential access to the database of players, all of whom will
have already visited their site. All players will have opted in for
marketing communications.

As you can see, on the one side you say that you will not reveal any information to entities of any kind, but on the other hand your going to give the websites access to player information.

How do I opt out of being in the
database?

I look forward to hearing from you,

Now lets just wait and see.

A mistype on the first line, sate should be state
I know it seems petty but you want them to take you seriously and something like that will make them just ignore your e-mail.

On the first run through to the T&Cs they were upfront in their intent to 'sell' all your data (see the original post) - that clause was first or second on the page. That clause is now gone in one of the many unmarked changes they have made to the terms., buried more in the small print and contradicting statements.

 $1,000,000.00 or not

Well the prize is subject to so many conditions I would be amazed if $1 million is actually handed over to the winner of this game.

For a start it is subject to them selling all the pieces which so far seems to be a slow process but then all it needs is for the media to pick up on it and it could start to pick up speed. If the pieces are not sold then the prize fund is reduced to 50% of the profit from the game. Given they have only raised around $35,000 so far and I would expect the launch fees to pretty much have wiped that out and more in development charges and commissioning the outside agency to bring it to the market.

What is very unclear is if the prize is not the originally stated $1 million then what is going to be deducted as costs before they announce what is profit as it could be reduced a whole lot by tax, accountants fees, auditors, advertising and wages. I am pretty sure they have an idea of what THEY want to make from this game before they start giving away their potential income in prizes.

I can't see anywhere on the site who is regulating the game either, a game like this with a prize of so much should have an independent regulator to make sure everything is above board and proper, in saying that they final emails to submit the finished puzzle should also go to an independent body so there can be no accusations of foul play on who's email arrived in the GJ inbox first.

Not really sure about the legal aspects of forcing the winner to be used as a publicity puppet at the end either, even the lottery can not force winners to be paraded on show and their prizes are a heck of a lot more than this one.

I am treating it as a game and something to fill in a few minutes when things are quiet, it is not a game that should be treated as anything more than that by anyone especially not for a long long time yet Very Happy

The game should also be covered by liability insurance as there is so much potential within it's constant changes and ongoing development for them to get sued, so it could be that an insurance company has underwritten the prize in some deal which would mean they do not actually have to physically have $1,000,000.00 in the bank at the start of the game.

This is funny,

On Perplexorum about half an hour ago, a player named SingleDogJaw (a new member) created a new thread for today's puzzle piece. They excitedly announced that they had already found today's website, and that anybody could also find it with a google search. This before today's clue has been released.

Within minutes of this post, the thread was edited beyond recognition. None of the original text remains, being replaced by what has become the standard 1st post for a clue thread, and then locked until the clue is released.

Honestly, the amount of work the Perplexorum Mods are having to do is incredible, and I suspect unsustainable, but moreover futile.

Should anyone want to save the Perplexorum mods some work, they can just go ahead and post to the golden jigsaw wiki. If anyone doesn't know how to post to a wiki, or doesn't want to appear on the wiki, they can message me here or email me and I will post it for them.

In addition to the wiki, which I will stop promoting after mentioning it as much as I could possibly get away with already, a live journal user has this up-to-date resource. I don't feel like I am giving them away as they named the journal "Golden Jigsaw."

The only other site a quick google search came up with was the already known sockshop . The page mentions two clues, but I don't see them. Maybe this page has been up for a while.

I suspect this will be (and is) the case as well.

that's what i was talking about yesterday... it's been like that for a while. you can get to that site from linking off of golden jigsaw's page. i don't think the pieces are live there yet (i l00ked over sooooo much crap yesterday). then again, i could be wrong. but the clues are not up yet. that's for sure.

EDIT: that site has taken the link down now.

I still see the link in the Site Map, and I can surf to it without a problem. Confused
