401WTF Founded this off Boing Boing : 401wtf. Looks like some videos, with the trailhead being single frames in the tv show Room 401

The clues in the show leads to: http://www.43475359616771.com , which gives you a weird 401 message. (401wtf ) However, clicking the number 404 pulls up a freaky video of a guy eating razorblades. Now, I'm not a quesy person but I haven't been able to watch the whole thing yet.

also note, the disclaimer mentions not to attempt to perform this illusion at home.
I can still see someone thinking this is cool and actually trying it...
and yeah, that wow was hard to stomach (no pun intended), even knowing it's an illusion

Silly rabbit, trix are for kids!
If you follow the source code of the video Twee found, you end up at blip.tv Search for the file and you see that this person has posted a whole bunch of other videos. The most recent has Houdini and a message that basically says "Congrats, you found me. This might be the last time you ever see me". Haven't watched all the videos yet, but what I have seen have all been weird. I'm guessing that you had to have found them in the context they were presented in originally for them to make sense. Then again, maybe not.

Ok, so you go to popeinnocent1.com and it leads to houdinisbox.com and that accounts for at least some of the videos on blip.tv. I have no clue as to what you were supposed to do once you got to houdinisbox. I think I skipped 5 or 6 steps by going straight to blip.tv.

Ok, one of the videos leads to magicstomach.com which has a countdown clock. Unless I miss my guess, it's counting down to Tuesday August 7 at midnight. There's also a link to this page http://magicstomach.com/ms.html
This is definitely weird.
Edit : if you fast forward the timer, its another image of Houdini. They left the /imgs/ directory open and there isn't much there. Looks like the end of the line till the time runs out.

I greatly enjoy a good scare, but this strikes me as more gory than scary so far. Too bad Hollywood doesn't seem to know the difference anymore

Probably the strangest thing so far is that they are using different hosting companies for different sites. Two of them (popeinnocenti.com and houdinisbox.com) are hosted with New Dream Network in California. One of them (magicstomach.com) is hosted with GoDaddy. The other (43475359616771.com) is hosted with Digisynd, also in California. I wonder if they're doing this to keep us from finding websites early.
Also, it seems that all of them are registered through Domains By Proxy except for 43475359616771.com, which says it belongs to a Franz Mertens of the Mertens Foundation. Looking at the whois gives a phone number which doesn't work and an email address of franzmertensSPLAT gmail.com. I've tried sending an email to this and have received anything back yet

Look at Wikipedia, I think that's a joke. Mertens did work on Mobius strips .... everything loops back on itself indeed.

while (43475359616771.com) is on another host, the other 3 sites are all *hosted* by Dreamhost, two on the same IP and one on a neighboring IP in the same server block. You're confusing GoDaddy's domain name registrar with webhosting servers.

We're both right. Seems that the tool I was using gave me the wrong IP for the site (example ). I'll have to remember to nslookup before opening my mouth next time

I would do this one, but I too do not like gory scary stuff. Hostel almost made me puke. Plus I saw room 401 on MTV last night and it was awfully freaky. I know this one won't be for me.
Now I have to resist the urge to go to the sites, knowing that the videos will scare me to death. -.-

The only one that's gory is the first one. Its a dude swallowing razor blades. After that, all the videos are stock footage from between 1900 and 1920. Its weird and random, but not too gory. I'm just trying to figure out if there's anything important about Tuesday...

KEWL! count me in..so what do we do now, wait for august 7th?
EDIT: Trout me if u need to but I dont recall anyone mentioning this... in the source of the "Error 401" page (prime number page) it has in the source this link :
http://blip.tv/scripts/flash/blipplayer.swf?autoStart
when you enter it, it has a creepy video that is pretty hard to see but it flashes words throughpout it.
the words are : "are you afraid of the dark"
im not sure where to go from there, but I wanted to see if it related to all of this...
like i said, trout me if it was refered to before. so.. anyone see it?
EDIT: Scratch that, Im Trouting myself I didnt c&p the whole link inside the source, i thought it ended before the "=" but it goes alot further, i followed the trail (pope, houdinisbox, then magicstomach)
so now im back at the timer. is there anything else we missed or do we really wait 6 more days?
