After the "tiff" I had with baadi over the frozen embryos story, I took him up on his suggestion that I ask Tara Mercer to see whether I could find something out about the matter.

Quote:
To TaraMercer: I am curious about a recent news article regarding Senator Mercer. Since I do not know how to contact him, I hope you can help me.

The article is dated Jun 30, 2037, and is about a plan to release frozen embryos that have been kept at a fertility clinic. According to the article (I'm paraphrasing here), there is a large cost in money and other resources associated with keeping these embryos viable, and reduced fertility is a developing problem.

My question is how this news should be interpreted. On the one hand, I could say that it is a great thing that the government is doing, as people with no children may have the chance to raise a family under this proposal. On the other hand, I could also say that it is primarily a money-saving act, which has the beneficial side effect of bringing the chance to raise a family to people who would otherwise be denied that chance.

The former interpretation, of course, would be preferred by supporters of the government, while its detractors would prefer the latter. While your own point of view must of necessity have some bias, I am still interested in your take on this matter.

Her reply:

TaraMercer says: The real question Lux is why I would care about frozen embryos when there's perfectly easy ways to make more little brats the old fashioned way.

OK, I guess I should have expected something like that...

Tara seems to be responding a lot today.

I wrote the following (sorry, I know it's long)

Quote:
Hey, Tara?

Listen, before I say anything I just want to clarify--I don't really care about using this information, and if you don't want me talking about it further (and I haven't, yet) I won't. I'm telling you this to clear up gossip that's been circulating, and mean no harm.

Anyway, to the point--I've heard through the interface rumor mill that Darlene is your mother (in our time, Phil and your mother were dating). What is surprising and confusing is the sources of these rumors are claiming this rumor is 'dangerous'.

So I guess I'm wondering three things. Were you aware of these rumors (true or not), why are some people making it out to be such a big deal, and what do you want me to do?

Sorry...I know this probably isn't good news to find in your message box, but I know if people were talking about me behind my back, I'd like to know what was being said. I assumed you'd believe the same.

And got the following response from Tara

Quote:
Dirty rumors.

My mother was a saint!

Woh! Bit of a touchy subject it seems.

Is Darlene one of the originals who was "sainted?"

"Darlene" is the name Adam thought he remembered for Dairine - so yeah, she's been sainted (I sent the message to Tara before Blue District went live, so still didn't know the proper spelling).

The two sainted people we know of are Alex and Phil's girlfriends. Interesting, I think (oh, and clarifying: anybody can use this, and any other information I post for whatever purposes you want--pretend this gossip was sent to you as a private message, or something.)

Anyone hear anything from her since they announced her husband's death? How is she holding up?

She is probably out enjoying her new found freedom. I dont think we can trust her, especially after the death of her husband.

I dropped her a line as soon as Buzzline clued us into the demise of her husband. (Well - was on holiday at the actual time, but before the story hit the newsfeed), and haven't heard anything back, and given the story in today's newsfeed, it may be quite some time before any of us hears anything from the future.

I'm wondering if the storm may be directly above the city, until around about when the Uni's restart their academic year? Just not sure when that is, but anything from 2 weeks or more, according to the people I've been chatting to.
