Blargh. Maybe you could ask to view the disk on a laptop or something. They'd probably say "No" but whatever, you tried.

Looks as if they just used the image without knowing what it was.

rant

Burger King and Halo 3?

When I think of the beauty and power that was the campaign of i love bees this makes me want to weep. I'm sure the Halo 3 survival kit will be some sort of little toy. Along with a drink cup decorated with some glyphs or images of the MC.

Fight the flood, eat a whopper.

Sorry for ranting here. Not good form for a moderator I guess, but I'm only human. It isn't entirely off-topic.... Wink

well, address your post to the retailers, and it's entirely on topic Wink

edit: aw rose, you shrank your post! =P

But yeah, I agree, this marketing "spiral" campaign definitely doesn't hold a candle to what we're accustomed to and love playing...

but I think you also hit it that they're not concerned with that now. Like 42 said, they wouldn't want to do the same thing twice. With Bungie (likely MS has more influence in the marketing anyway), I'm sure they want to take advantage of whatever enormously positive association comes with the Halo name, and market the hell out of it. I don't think they see it entirely as "using Halo to sell other stuff", but obviously that in selling that other stuff and getting people wearing the brand, seeing the brand, hearing the brand, screaming about the brand - it makes sure people know all about Halo. It is, after all, the 'final' game in this story arc.

I think probably misread the marketing results of an ARG like ILB, which doesn't translate directly into numbers and dollars. I'm seeing Bungie moving into telling Halo-universe stories through other media, such as the obvious graphic novels and regular novels, since the video game series is ending.

Maybe they just feel that they've catered to the player long enough, and want to finally eat the cake. *shrug*

It's really unfortunate, because the Halo universe is so rich with potential for amazing characters and stories. I think we need to look for that level of storytelling through other media from now on... it's doubtful we'll ever get a Halo-related ARG at the level of ILB, ever.

Perhaps if a good author comes around who contracts with Bungie/MS and integrates an alternate reality with their creative work (listening, Christopher Forrest? Wink) we might see something along those lines show up in the future... but likely not from the Bungie/MS marketing monster.
