sorry had to step away.
i chose that name because, yes, im a Tool fan,
and i have an interest in theology...
the sumerians were thought to have interacted with giants, whom they thought were gods, but in more recent times thought to be fallen angels, possibly from another dimension, and thought to retun...
this is all seams to be the background for the game...
i figure if i study more about those stories, i might get better at the game.

Yes, the Nephilim. Spoken of only once in Genesis, but in much greater detail in the Book of Enoch. Being a Christian, I also have a huge interest in theology.
And I'm also a Tool fan. Smile
I apologize for my suspicion earlier. I had a notion there for awhile that you were claiming to play some part in the whole EHWR storyline.

no problem...
its an honor to know you, as well as the rest of you.
as far as your comment, my theory is that we are determining the outcome of the game as we converse... we are all playing a part.

or im i just taking shots?

I'm back, sorry for stepping out.
As much as I like your theory I'm afraid that, by now, we're all taking shots....
It's an honor to meet you, too.

Sorry! Monty Python was on and I never miss it.
Yeah, they left behind far too much. I might consider buying it to learn more....
Well, night folk!

This still interests me; more now than before, whether or not it is or was an ARG. Besides, that's a concept that itself is still evolving, so why accept the notion that there are rules to such a thing?

TM's involvement still makes little sense; he's obviously well paid at Jordan, the parent of WorldQuest. By all appearances, he still works there, given that Jordan's site has him listed as their Director of Marketing (and companies are very quick to update websites for personnel changes that occur in upper management--usually it occurs the same day someone leaves). I can see if he just provided some seed capital for some old friends from back home in Canada (Carter & Fischl), but it looked as if he was more involved than just that, at least according to Bix. I now think he's not the same TM that worked at TSR back in the 90s--that person looked older then than the TM of Jordan does now (and the Jordan pic is clearly not old). So what's his story? Is he just an avid gamer or is something else going on here, something along the lines of what Fraaip alludes to?

AO does look very interesting too, but as a TTRPG, I can't play it--all my friends are too old and busy for such things as am I. It certainly seems as if they're setting it up for people to game online--not as a conventional MMORPG, per se, but something new. Something largely text-based, where people can play with others over the net.

One other thing that I don't credit to poor storytelling. At AO, VM and his compatriots live in the 23d Century, yet they were interacting with us now and VM was obsessed with a prophet-figure from the 19th Century. Past, present, and future. "I am the Alpha and the Omega; the beginning and the end." Could this entire enterprise be an experiment in eschatology?

Thanks, but right now, it's slumping to my shoulders. I'm going to keep up with this; if there's nothing there, then it still ranks as a pretty interesting phenomenon. Who would have guessed that a startup RPG company would release an ARG (or something like that) about the same time as the Cloverfield trailer, use the name Ethan Haas--a name that coincidentally has a tangential connection to the film, and have videos posted on YouTube pulled down by Paramount.

BTW, the allegation that the vids were marked "Cloverfield" so that's why they were pulled is nonsense--Paramount doesn't own and can't copyright mere words like Cloverfield any more than they could copyright the word "soap". I think Paramount just flipped and pressured YouTube to yank them because they thought it was stealing their thunder, then they realized almost as quickly that they could piggyback on the interest in EHWR.

It's all a remarkable chain of coincidences. Or there's two other schools of thought about such things: a) there is no such thing as a coincidence; b) it's an example of what Jung called synchronicity.

Anyhoo, night now. See whoever is left tomorrow night.

The argument is fine. It's not a question of copyright or trademark. It's a question of internet administration mechanics.

YouTube only has two methods of removing videos. They can remove them one by one, by plugging in the number/letter combination generated to identify the clip on the server. Or they can mass remove videos based on a text search of the "tag words" the author selected and/or their "description" of the video.

Here is an example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukHbEDPz10U

The video above is original, but it includes "cloverfield" as a tag line. So the video might be removed if Paramount asked for an instant purge of every video about "cloverfield." The only way to avoid this is for YouTube employees to view each video their text search pulls up before deleting it. This takes time, so it would not tend to satisfy a panicked media company.

Google is working on a method to search videos based on its actual content, using digital analyzation of video and sound content. This would allow YouTube to remove videos more accurately. The reason they're spending tons of money developing this is that they're tired of taking flack from media firms and users alike over inaccurate text search removals.

Yup. I'm honestly wondering if it's just traffic or if someone is actively trying to crash the site out of anger.

The longer this continues, the more it seems like the latter. You would think in 48 hours they'd have shored up the site to handle the volume.

Then again, you would think a lot about how this has been handled that makes you shake your head.

They praised themselves in receiving "6.5 million hits in 14 days." They must have been able to predict the potential load, especially on such a content heavy site like AO.

And it's certainly not forum traffic. Last time I checked their forum had no more than 50 posts in total.

If they were being attacked, the whole server would be having issues.

*EDIT*
For me, "alphaomegathegame.com" isn't even name resolving to an IP address.
