Say what? Does no one remember the civil war? The lusitania? Pearl Harbor?
The california earthquakes, or fires? Slavery? The riots? WWI or WWII? The Great Depression? The flue epidemic?

9/11 was nowhere near the most tragic event in our history, we're just not used to having things of that magnitude happen anymore.

No offense but just c'mon with 9/11, it happened it wasn't as bad as it could've been. And we've already avenged everyone who died 3x over.

As for good monster movies, check out The Host, that's a real good one. Just came out on DVD. Hasn't been a decade. Yikes you people are shortsighted.

What thread should this be under?

A thread just for political rants maybe - that might be the key to cracking this Cloverfield mystery! It's so crazy, it just might work!

It seems like people are starting to buckle, waitin' for their next fix from Dr. JJ, the Candyman. Cool --> Trout --> Shocked

Possible creature type
A connection to Mitt\Cheese\Hammer

The creature may be one ore more Plesiosaur type creatures having grown to incredible sizes unknown to us at the bottom of our oceans.

A possible Pleiosaur was discovered in New Zealand in 1977, see http://www.gennet.org/facts/nessie.html.

Fishermen or scientists find an ancient Pleiosaur type creature that has died and began to decompose. They speculate that the creature had recently been freed from the bottom of the ocean due to warming currents (blue oven mitt). The huge decomposing creature smells like cheese due to the adipocere that covers a good portion of it.

From Wiki - Adipocere inhibits the growth of bacteria, and can go some way to protecting a corpse against decomposition. It begins to form within about a month of death, and can persist on the remains for centuries. Since it forms through hydrolysis, it does so more readily in humid environments or even underwater. An exposed body is unlikely to form deposits of adipocere. The process of adipocere formation is also known as saponification.

Adipocere 'emits a smell like cheese or mold, see http://www.answersingenesis.org/tj/v12/i3/plesiosaurs.asp.

It turns out that the creature is not alone and perhaps it is a small one. Other Pleiosaur type creatures, much larger, (Its alive! It's huge) follow the ships to our coast and attack (the Hammer).

While the cheese smell and your theory are quite plausable, and very good. It would be horrible if the monster...smelled like cheese.

You know, I know this has been done to death, but what makes people so sure that this monster is "original?" I started questioning this after rereading over Abram's speech at Comicon and I don't hear the mention of an original monster, just "we need out own monster, like we need a monster movie"

Now, that may be interpreted as original, our own monster to boast about, or it could mean that Cthulhu is a possibility.

I'm expecting to be ravaged by a lot of people for even stating that, but please, try to keep an open mind and try to explain why it has to be interpreted as original.

Well, at least I wasn't stupid enough to think it was Godzilla or Voltron, give me that much credit at least :/

It is a ancient fish.

Just like some eel live inside some cave under water. It live inside the underwater volcano most of time. For eating. It swim up and find those INGREDIENTS which also used to make slusho!. Evolution make it have a strong fins like arms and leg to harvest those ingredients under the rock.
(using these fins to walk on the land)

I don't know when a soft drink "Slusho" comes out. Deep sea INGREDIENTS were most important of the Drink. When all the ingresients were empty because over-harvest. The monster need to come out the water and goto NY, to finds his food.

This monster is living under lava. The lava which remains in the body chart becoming cold, those which become firm, Solid Rock and many layers. Came to very high defensive power. also it can breath out fire-ball just like what we saw in the trailer.

In the "Journey to the Center of the Earth"
These is a sence one big ICHTHYOSAURIA (ancients Fish, dinosaur fish) battling with Plesiosauria (Dinosaur) .
It is a one of the "American" movie sence of Monstrous

lava swimming ancient fish, does it match everything?

There is also a humor thread and a thread for speculating what the monster is,
The search button is your friend.

Isn't being almost completely discredited once enough?

buru anyone?

No takers on the Buru theory?

http://monstrous-movie.blogspot.com/2007/07/buru-monster-theory.html

I don't even like it myself, but if there's any credibility to the morse code decipher of the donkey's bubbles, it leads to the Buru. Buru's have the lizards climbing ability probably, enough to slither up the statue and bite it's head off.

BTW, anyone make something of the repeating patten of donkey blinks? 2-1-1 2-1-1 2-1-1

I still think the flavors page is a combination lock.
