Is it just me, or does that beast look like a lion in the face? Anybody smell irony? It's thick in the air.

I sent a msg to HUD. No reply yet.

Maybe we should start a thread for the replies? Or just post them here I guess.

Please if you have gotten a reply from one of the 7 can you cut and paste it into this thread.

Good idea about starting a separate thread - just for posting replies. I haven't been accepted as a friend yet, and haven't gotten any replies, so someone who HAS should start the thread... hint hint... Wink Wink

Hmm found this prof. from one of Hawks comments. Probably OOG but it has some interesting coincidences.
She talks about the ocean and monster movies. She's from Japan and one of the books she mentions is House of Leaves as well.
Just throwing this out there

Her general interests sound related.

"Ummm ... I don't know. I love the beach, but I'm afraid of dark water so I'm not really much of a swimmer. It's kind of a shame because I'd love to learn how to surf! It just looks like so much fun! I love old monster movies. You know, the ones with really bad special effects. I used to not like real scary movies that much, because I'm such a scardy cat, but now I'm warming up to them (as long as I'm with a bunch of friends when I'm watching it!). It's weird, though, because I've always loved scary books."

I'm still not SURE it's related.

Signup date is 8/2/07. I am thinking not related.

Lateral riddles

Here's an idea: some people in the last few days mentioned lateral thinking, which is exemplified by the lateral riddle that Beth and Rob are talking about (the lights go out, the man cries, what happened?). The website they mentioned (http://brainyplanet.com/index.php/Lateral%20Solution) said--

Lateral thinking puzzles are often strange situations which require an explanation. They are solved through a dialogue between the quizmaster who sets the puzzle and the solvers who try to figure out the answer. The puzzles generally do not contain sufficient information for the solver to deduce the solution. So a key part of the process is asking questions. The questions can receive three possible answers - yes, no or irrelevant.
When one line of enquiry reaches an end then an approach from a completely new direction is needed. This is where the lateral thinking comes in.

At the time, I thought that was a cool connection but it didn't make sense to me because we couldn't interact w/ the characters, but now that we can, this idea makes a lot more sense. So maybe we should be asking them yes/no questions about slusho, etc. And then if we share the answers, eventually we can figure some things out? Maybe that is why they are responding to people's emails... doing it benignly right now to let us know that the lines of communication are open, but maybe if we ask the right questions in the right format, we'll get some helpful answers.

Although, to be honest, I'm not sure I even can identify what the riddle is at this point... although the cheese, hammer, oven mitt / donkey, jellyfish, fish thing sounds like it would fit into this genre, since it's so random and these puzzles seem to ask about completely unrelated things and then you have to figure out how they're related.

First time post after lurking for a while -- go easy on me! I searched & didn't see this anywhere, I swear.

Good theory, and since people have been able to get pretty descriptive/chatty responces things might move faster than a simple "yes, no, irrelivant" dialog would.

Excellent idea... like, really farking good. And searching wouldn't have found anything, it's not there. Smile Now just to find out what questions we should be asking.

Neat. I like the way you're thinking, jojo!

Like you said, the question becomes... what is the question?

We're investigating the attack in that movie trailer, and they, being closer to the event, are here to help us figure it out.

We just need to start asking them questions that stay in-game. If we keep track of the answers, perhaps some sort of meaningful story will start to form, and then we can get a better angle on what the question really is.

I'm not sure if our inquiries need to literally be yes/no/irrelevant questions, though. Maybe their answers, even to more complex questions, will indicate that for us. For instance, if you ask Lil about House of Leaves and she says, Yeah, great book!, that = irrelevant.

- Ask Jamie about the promotion she received (Hawk's reply about the chip clip guy.) More backstory could be useful to pursue.

- Ask Jamie about Wichcraft and her friend Linds. And her nickname "Demon-Born" which is a clear play on her wiccan background.

- Ask Beth if she knows any good riddles. At least then we might get something to solve.

- Ask Lily and Hawk if they ever argue about which movie is better - The Seven Samurai or the Magnificent Seven. I assume this argument has taken place before.

- Ask Rob about his Adios shirt. And J.J. about his Augie shirt. Might actually get sme answers.

- Ask J.J. where the hell he gets his Slusho from.

- Try to hit on Lena and ask for for her cell#, we might get Beth's instead.

I think that is a pretty blatant hint of what our interaction will amount to. I guess now that they're showing us that they're opening up the lines, it's just a matter of waiting for the initial scenario, right? Or is the trailer literally our short "Man comes to surprise party. Lights go out. Something attacks. Who is your daddy and what does he do?" riddle?

Oh, and I also requested all 7. Jamie is the only one who's accepted, yet my friend counter went up for all of them except Hud who's still pending...Hmmm...

Edit: Someone typed too fast to remember the difference between Accept and Except.
