psychogenic fugue

Hope you can help. Let's say a man has experienced a trauma, and has created another identity in his mind. His is confined to a hospital room, so he cannot wander off, as is normally the case if someone has this condition. He is living a normal, day to day life in his mind, very similar to the one he had before his trauma. He is not comatose, but minimally responsive to the doctors, family, etc. Could, in theory, a psychiatrist hypnotize this man to find out exactly what is going on in his mind?
