Do you really think that a 30 million dollar project is relying on us random assed people on the net for a back story? They might rely on us for a little buzz around the film, but for the back story? And for a film that is already shooting and will be in post-production before you can say the name of the film?

I salute all of you water-heads, I am in awe.

I think you missed the point, sir. They're not relying on us for the back story. They already have it, they're letting us explore it though, instead of just feeding it to us. Having an interactive experience is move fun than a passive storytelling, no?

I think it's quite ingenious.

ok cool thankyou for the totally LEGIT answer. =)
Seriously, thanks, I just looked at the pics, and the registration info for myself again...didn't think about it before, I am never 100% convinced with these things lol....but but, it's looking better in my mind.
The date of registration is the big convince factor for me.

Peace.

NOW let's hope this actually turns into a full ARG instead of a typical treasure hunt type marketing thing.

No problem. Incidentally, how does one check the registration info for myspace pages? I couldn't find it (though I have to say that I only joined for this and I wouldn't use it for anything else--it's pretty poorly designed for finding things).

Yeah I agree...My Space is the bane of the net IMHO but each persons site states somewhere on the main page, I forget, and you have to be a member I believe to see their "registration date" or "date registered" or something...I avoid Myspace at all costs...but had to check out this stuff lol....god I'm tired.

Peace.

It's just frizzy hair. don't focus on one spot in the picture focus on the whole thing and you'll see it.

Done that. Still don't see it.
But, I'm done.

Not to diss, but have you seen what happens to women when they sweat and their hair gets frizzy? IT LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THAT! Combine that with all the crying and running around these chicks would be doing after being chased by a monster the size of Dodger Stadium and I think we have a case of "I want to believe it's a monster in their hair, so I'm going to keep on saying it until someone believes me."

I swear, the tin-foil 1-18-08 crowd is just as bad as the 9-11 deniers and the holocaust deniers. You guys are always looking for some weird angle that isn't there.

Something came up in the now totally-silly MEGA thread that should be here anyway. Who's the guy who comes in with Rob to the party and takes his pic just as everyone says "surprise!"? There's been almost no discussion of him. He's obviously not the vid-camera guy (who we now believe is HUD), at least not for that shot. I assume he's a co-worker since Rob's still wearing his blazer and tie (though the picture-taker is not similarly dressed). But they seem to be coming in pretty late--if we assume the party begins near midnight. I don't necessarily think it's significant, but he's not one of the myspace people, yet he must be close enough to Rob to come to his apartment late at night.

Hmm. No responses; well I'll try to answer my own question by posing another one. Is our assumption that this is Rob's apartment correct, or that it's even an apartment at all? Aside from the huge size of the place for a NYC apartment, there's a few filing cabinets. Ok, so it has chairs, a fridge, and a 360, but there's a lot of Bobo companies that pride themselves on their super-casual environments. Maybe the Japanese items were just brought in to spruce up the going away party. Anyway, I don't know if this really is his apartment, someone else's or the employee lounge of a slacker-office or what. The point is, if we drop the assumption that this is Rob's apartment, some of our other assumptions may prove to be just that--mere guesses.

Interesting possibility, Almijisti - I just assumed it was Rob's apartment. Better watch the trailer again a few times.

About the time of the party - in the scene where Beth (I think it's Beth) says "Rob, have fun in Japan" (or something like that - it's right after the blonde girl says "Rob's awesome) - look to the right of her head - behind her, and above a door, there's a clock, and it looks to be about 11:15.

That doesn't really tell us when the party started, but it's a point of reference anyway.

All movie clocks are set to on or about 10:10. It's been discussed many a time around here, and is a generally accepted standard in filming. Don't think too much of it.

Check, got it. Actually, I just watched the trailer again and you can see the same clock when Rob first walks in and it looks like... yep, 10:10. Doh!

who's taking pictures?

Something I noticed while watching the trailer, looking for the time on that prop clock - when Rob first walks in, as the camera zooms in on Rob getting his "surprise!" picture taken, at least two people lift their cellphones up above the crowd to capture the moment. They're on the left side of the frame, as the camera zooms in.

I checked and didn't see this mentioned anywhere - 1,000 apologies if it's old news. In any case, it means that pictures of the party could have come from lots of diff. sources. And, if we assume that the 1-18-08 pics were found amidst the rubble, some of those could have come from anyone in NYC (e.g., the picture of the soldier). So, the guy snapping a picture of Rob as he walks in the door might not be all that important.

"I ATE 08"

Greetings!
For a few days now I've been trying to catch up with the story so far, slowly reading my way through past discussions. This ARG business is highly interesting.

While watching the trailer, I randomly pressed pause and arrived at 01:47, where it says "IN THEATERS 01-18-08". I noticed that the first letters that appear clearly are "I ATE 08".

Searching for this in this forum returned nothing, so I proudly present to my not especially colossal find. Maybe 08 or O8 mean something. Most probably this is nothing, but it gives me this nice feeling of contribution...

Keep up the good work!

Werni

Almijisti - to check sign up dates on any ms page, you click the link to the blogs - the one that's "view all" blogs. On the sidebar column it will show when they created the account and this cannot be manually changed. It can, however, be "not shown" in the preferences. Also, if the user sets his permissions to friends only viewing then you'd have to be joined and signed in to see blogs, pics, videos, etc.

Demon pic - No disclaimer this time but while I can still see the demon thing, I don't at all see any street lamp. I don't know where yall came up with that but street lamp? Sure it can be an optical illusion with the demon but it's a damned easy one to see and a lot of people see it the same way. (which is now comforting that I wasn't hallucinating as of July 4). I don't see a street light even telling myself it's an optical illusion.

I think what we should do is go find Abrams and give him a wedgie.

Finally - I think some of you guys are a little too quick to shoot down the in your face stuff as pointless time wasting scavenger hunts via Abrams camp. Sure there's bait....but fishermen don't bait a hook arbitrarily, nor are they indifferent about what the bait is or what they're after. Every hook that's been tossed is kicked around about half an hour and then shrugged off as most likely meaningless, or an accident, or they're not ready, or it's marketing, or it's just an inspiration, or a coincidence. If it's all so pointless why are yall still hanging around waiting on the next one you probably won't accept either.

If so then I vote this entire section be moved to Time Wasters... right?

Does it normally get up to 63 degrees in the middle of January at 12:32 AM?? Seems a bit warm to me in my opinion.
