[SITE] consultantbunker.com (Y2KVeteran's site)

I don't have a lot of time to make this pretty right now, but today Econjen posted on S.O. part of an IM chat with "y2kvet"

Firing up AIM, I discovered that "y2kvet" was indeed online, and in the AIM profile was this info:
Quote:
I can help you begin the process of feeling safe outside of your bunker. I can council you through the steps of establishing and marking your territory, driving off lesser competitors and opportunists. You'll be surprised to discover how long you've survived using only defensive security strategies.

So I sent him an e-mail:

Dear Y2KVeteran,
Hey. It's JJason, one of the new people on the Sentry Outpost boards. Found your e-mail through your website on your IM profile. I know that I honestly don't know you that well but I was hoping I could talk to you about StuR. Econjen mentioned that you had some concerns about him that you didn't want to post on Sentry Outpost but that she wasn't willing to hear any of it. I'm afraid both she and MKaos are pretty angry at you right now. But I'm pretty sure you've got your reasons for not posting on SO and that you wouldn't do it unless they were something good.

I personally have had a bad feeling about StuR since somebody pointed out the craigslist posting connected to him. Plus he's a twit. But if he's up to something worse than being annoying, I think that we need to know it. Think you could share even some of what you wanted to tell Econjen? Sharing info is the only way we'll be able to get to the bottom of what's going on and get whoever's doing this to us.
Thanks,
J-Jason

We'll see if he replies

Anyone check for the presence a MUD? Finding someone's website is like that death cat from yesterday, as far as this game is concerned... I'm afraid poor Art may not be long for this world.

I think that's why no one's mentioned it publically on the SO forums. We don't want the evil types to know he has a site. I did mention it to Marie in PM, so if he goes nutso, we should consider her (more) suspect.

At the moment, there are no signs of an infestation - none of the ports we usually watch are active, and none of the directories we've found are there. I hate to say it, but we might only have until the full moon before he gets infected (it's coming soon - next one's on July 30 at 00:48 UTC [meaning July 29 at 20:48 EDT, 17:48 PDT], so like three days).

Well that hardly seems Y2K compliant.... (That version of FrontPage was released in '97)

Well, I think that the site has been around for a while (in-game) from something Marie told me:
Marie Smile wrote:
I remember that site now! "I'm Arthur Lydney." Laughing It was driving me crazy after Dante asked about it. I couldn't remember what it was or, even, if it still existed or, maybe, if I'd imagined the entire thing. It's nice to know that it did (does) exist Smile It's pretty much just what I remembered, too. Which means, like Art, it's stuck in y2k Laughing I shouldn't pick on it. It's certainly better than anything I'd be able to do Smile

So yeah, this is probably his site from the Y2K days, so put up in late '98/early '99 - a version of FrontPage from '97 makes sense.

Wow this is great stuff. I have a feeling that Y2K veteran is the reason we hear the "predator" and "prey" language from BA.

Did anyone chat with him on AIM? I don't use it myself. But it would have been nice to have a direct conversation with him.

Hey Jjason, has Art said anything yet? I would e-mail him myself, but I'm not really known as much as most of the rest of you. I would probably provoke some sort of unpleasent response if just a random guy showed up asking why he wasn't posting on SO. *shrug*

Nope. Silence. I also sent a PM after he came back to the SO boards saying that agreed with him about StuR and I haven't gotten a reply for that either.

I PMed him as well. No response. But that fits with his character.

Has anyone seen him on AIM?

I wouldn't worry about just being a random person who hasn't posted on SO. I think we need to contact these characters as much as possible, in private, to try to get the story of what happened on those forums. I keep telling them that I don't trust them on the boards, so I'm not likely to get a good response.

Not a very smart position for me to take.
