2. Isn't it illegal to post a fake copyright? I've searched the US Copyright Office and can't find anything under Jonas Volman.

It's not a "fake" copyright. The "fake" book is Bungie's original fictional work. It's copyrightable.

At this point in time it turns up nothing.

It's a page in the book that says "Publisher has denied access".

EDIT: It's just a random button. Most of the pages are denied... We could try hitting it until we see all 93 pages. Incase there's one that doesn't have the "denied" message.

I have an account, I've tried it multiple times. It just takes you to random pages, but there's nothing different that what you already see, it doesn't show you any new pages

For those that don't have an account, this is page 2 from the book, titled "The beginning theory", so far the only page I've been able to view. (Sorry for the length and feel free to correct any mistakes in my retyping)

Never before has history given so much to science. I am not speaking of the technological advancements that have allowed us to go exponentially deeper into our respective fields but more, the ever-expanding base of information we have to pull from. The very work we have been cataloging for generations is now returning full circle to be tested once again.

If anything, science is the process of continued failure. The check mark after check mark that fill the "negative" columns of every test we run until we can truly say "Here, this is the answer, this is the solution and I know it because nothing is left."

But how often do we stick to that system? How often do we use our modern tools to retest age-old assumptions? Well... Quite often actually. Reevaluation is at the very heart of the scientific method. Each scientist is aware that personal and cultural beliefs can inadvertently influence interpretations of natural phenomena. Through the reevaluation of others' data, we are able to minimize those influences and more clearly form a complete understanding.

Take for example the convicted murdered, who after years of sitting in prison is able to prove his innocence with the help of DNA evidence originally found at the crime scene. The world is being filled with re-examined data causing us to take another look not only at the ever-changing environment around us, but also at the very building blocks of our uniquely formed being. And the more we find, the more we realize how off our previous results were.

Usually, these updated findings are marginal. Our awareness of them comes only from the updated technological tools we now use. More accurate and to a deeper degree, the precision of modern equipment makes the findings of 50 years ago look like rough estimates. But in a few special cases such as teh study of human evolution, particularly DNA adaptation between species shift (primate-human), the preconceived notion of acceptable data divergence is falling farther and farther from explaining the differences between us and our distant cousins.

Interesting that the release date (or first publish date) for this book just happens to be the same date as the release of Halo 2.

Also, the title The Castaway Theory... sure does seem like a nod to ILB in the fact that The Castaway was what Durga/Melissa called Jersey's father.

Dunno I don't know that this tells us anything, I just found it intriguing.

Thomas Santos

Page 3 at the bottom had this:
Quote:
"It's a treasure hunt," enthusiastically replied the first colleague I called, Thomas Santos, cultural anthropologist of 29 years and avid puzzle breaker

He also posted a message for a review... we should look into him?!

EDIT: ran a google on him, but didn't find anything relevant

I searched Thomas Sanatos on Google, and the only thing I came up with was a link to something about NBA Europe Live in a language that I couldn't read.

Sounds like a good call, yes. Considering his initial post was on July 30, I'd say he's legit. Maybe a clue to try and view a cached version of the page?

Thomas Sanatos:

It's been over a year and a half! Not much time in the cosmic scheme of things, I know, but it feels like forever.
Joanne and I lit a candle for you the other night. It's become a tradition every time we make Sunday evening pasta. We miss having you over for dinner, there are too many leftovers now! LOL

I don't know what happened to all the other notes that used to be in this area. I guess when the book sold-out everyone's comments got deleted. Don't worry though, no one has forgotten about you.
Stay strong Jonas, wherever you are.

I already posted that, not with the glyph image overlayed but still, I deserve credit.

Has anybody figured out what the Castaway theory that the book is named for actually is? I googled it and all i came up with was a bunch of stuff about where Amelia Earhart crashed, which i really doubt is in game

I was thinking, a lot of the pages give you an Amazon warning about why the page isn't available and don't let you go to that page, but some display a "This page not available" message (so far I've seen it on page34) and some have a copyright notice on the page. Maybe putting together the pages you can actually get to (but not read) gives us an IP? Someone also said they shortened the total number from 93 to 13.. But I can still randomly get to pages after 13.

I dont think that its going to give us an IP...I believe that its just giving us something to work at until they release a crappy way to open server 4...They are making the openings easy enough to where you can hop right into the game and get it except for server 1 with the comic and stuff...server 2 and 3 have been lame openings...
