You know, WR keeps breaking his own rules. Don't you think directily referencing Idletech and Marcus is a surefire way to get "Grendel" to notice him?

i took this off the history page at ideltech i wonder if marcus tore his ACL in the car crash.. What is a ACL?
Quote:
Ideltech Information was created when three boys went to college. All from the same hometown, but they still barely knew each other. Amboy, WA is where they called home, but Eugene, OR and the University of Oregon is where they got their mail. The first year Marty and Jude chose programming as their major. Marcus was an athlete on a track scholarship. Unfortunately, Marcus tore his ACL and was unable to continue competing before the season ever started. Marty and Jude roomed together, and Marcus lived down the hall. Every night they ended up doing college-age mischief somewhere together.

Doubt it would have been injured in a crash, though certainly possible ... This is a very common knee injury in basketball players.
ACL is "anterior cruciate ligament", which I imagine is not all that helpful. Essential purpose is to hold the top of your leg to the bottom of your leg, I believe. Don't tear your ACL, kids.

ACL = Anterior Crucial Ligament (iirc) -- an important ligament at your knee. Athletes tear these at times, and it is usually a severe injury.

Marcus tore his ACL in his first couple of years of college. The accident WR is refering to is only 3 years back. I wonder if he is hinting at Marcus drinking and driving and what happened to the girlfriend?

was reading the convo above and the statement from drexel/roddington about the learning curve got me thinking.. awhile back i emailed melody heller about jude parents car crash and she said they were killed on a curve like area.. dont know if it has anything to do with anything but here it is:
Dear Ms. Krystal,
Often when a deer is struck by a car, it can cause serious damage to the car and walk away practically unscathed, it has to do with their spindly little legs getting knocked out from under them and having their bodies slide over the hood of the car into the windshield. I have had occasion to talk to Police Chief Markel several times in the past when he would stop in at the Round Up Cafe for a quick lunch, and it happens quite often. That turn by the pond is a very tricky one too, locals take it slower than the posted speed limit usually.
It was very difficult to go to the funeral, they were very active in the community. There were so many flowers in the curch that they went across the front and down both sides. Dr. Button gave such a wonderful eulogy. Lots of people stepped up to speak and share memories, that the service lasted over 2 hours.
I have to wonder why you would imply that there might be more to the accident. Not a soul in Amboy or the surrounding area would want to harm a hair on their heads. You would know that too if you lived in this area. I will have to ask that you not say anything to Jude about this, he has already suffered terribly, the last thing he needs is some well meaning but misguided person stirring everything up again for him.
Sincerely,
Melody Heller

I think Marcus tore his ACL when training or running track. ACL tears are commonly caused by relatively slow, twisting falls. The car accident would not cause this kind of injury.
Other than the information we have, how do we find out more about this accident? Has anyone asked Marcus in chat about his injury or the accident? I didn't see it anywhere here; but I could have easily missed it.
Edit to add: I noted that in his blog the Professor mentioned
Quote:
it's like going back to the scene of a car wreck
. Sounds like a hint. Is it the site that is important, something about around a curve at the pond is in the email from Melody.

Does this imply the girfriend died? I've asked Marcus if he had another girlfriend besides Melody-- but he hasn't answered yet.

I found a map which shows what I think might be the area of the accident.
This location is between Amboy, WA and Fargher Lake, WA on a mapquest map I generated by searching for "fargher pond." How this helps us I have no idea. I assume the professor had a purpose in bringing it up with Timesguy.
I have no other ideas about ways to research this other than asking Mark (is everyone else calling him "Marcus"?) or Melody about them.
