[TRAILHEAD?] The Red King Project
What do you dream of?

Came across this earlier today:

http://redkingproject.blogspot.com/

It's a blog by a scientist who works with a special machine that, once wired properly into a person, can monitor visual and audio in the person's dreams.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3446679914086122365

Here is a video that this machine supposedly generated. The author says there's a glitch in the end due to the patient waking up. He also states that we are not supposed to see this video, and to save it before it gets taken down.

At any rate, this looks like the start of a good ARG. Interesting video, even more interesting blog entries. Any ideas where to go with this?

I have a feeling who might be behind this one, but for the sake of the game, I won't say anything.

Wow! I'm really liking the sound of this one. Smile I watched the video and then read the blog a few times through, but couldn't find out what to go on from this. The video did give me chills watching it the second time around, after hearing of the scientist's experiences with hallucinations after seeing it.

I did a quick search of the "Red King Project" and just "Red King" on google, and the only thing I found didn't seem to have anything to do with this. (Mike Carey, heh.)

I don't have anymore ideas beyond that, as I can't find anything in the coding of the blog, and I don't have the proper programs to look at the video more closely.

Not sure if it's at all related, but in the Stephen King Dark Tower series, one of the main villains is the Crimson King. This may try to touch on some elements from the Stephen King series.

First thing I thought of, especially with the rumors of a Dark Tower movie being made.

Concept is interesting ... I wish the video was a bit longer. Anyone notice the footage is a year old according to the timestamp in the video?

Also, the blog had a lot of activity on Aug 1 & 2 and then nothing after that. So ... is this an active game? If so, what do we do other than wait?

As for what this is about ... I may have found the PM by accident. In searching for Red King Project, you only get two hits. One is this blog, the other is a post at the forums of comic author Mike Carvey about two months ago when someone asked him how "the Red Kig Project" is going. May not be the same thing, but based on the context of how he answers the question, maybe it is. http://mikecarey.net/forum/topic.php?id=71&page=3#post-628

That's what I thought at first, but it didn't seem like it was related, imo. If it is, I'm pretty sad that the PM was figured out already. Sad

Actually, it makes me more hopeful that the story is going to be decent and well thought out.

another little interesting note... author of the blog's initials R.F.

...

randall flagg? that ubiquitous bad guy seen in several of s.king's novels (including the dark tower series.)

just speculating, of course.

My my, how interesting... Might have to drop in on this one, I'm a sucker for Stephen King-related material, even if it's only spec that it is...

Dark Tower (under several different names, iirc), and The Stand.

also, a nod on the blog?

in quotes...

"hunt me down"

"Why?"

"I don't know."

"unsatisfactory", "mundane", "questionable",

just a few tidbits.

however tenuous the connection between the red king-crimson king =/= stephen king tie in, here's some more information regarding flagg and his appearances..

dark tower (as Walter o'Dim, Marten)
stand (as flagg)
eyes of the dragon (as flagg)
hearts in atlantis (as Raymond Fiegler)

and, of course, to keep it open... R.F. could also stand for something like "really funny" or "righteously flatulent"

who knows.

Just a hunch, but "Red King" seems to be a reference to the progressive rock band King Crimson.

The mastermind behind the band (and only constant member) from 1969 to present is Robert Fripp.

Our blogger calls himself R.F.

who knows.

Also he appeared in several Richard Bachman books and other SK short stories. He's all over the place in his fiction. In the end, SK incorporated the Dark Tower into all of his books and stories.
