Lucky 5

Okay, I have this thing running in a virtual machine. It immediately tries to connect to 229.178.197.229 port 5222. Anyone want to run down what that is? Attempts to connect to it with a browser on 80 or 5222 are unsuccessful. Perhaps with one of the other ports that we've come up with. I would run this stuff down myself but I don't have time right now.

Since I'm well protected inside the virtual machine I'll let it run a while and see what it does. Will let you all know.

Here's the license agreement in its original RTF format as well as the DAT file that I assume is the "prayer" file. I've added .txt onto the end of the .DAT in order to get it to upload to this board. I don't believe it to be dangerous with our without this additional extension but use at your own risk.

Note: Telnet to 229.178.197.229 5222 cannot open connection which suggests that there is nothing there.

Maybe this is another one that needs multiple people attempting connection before it opens?

Mapmaker in IRC made some amazing progress in deconstructing the source code of the program. Basically, it will generate a new IP address and port number each day (using a complex formula of moon cycles and offsets into the prayer text). Some days, those IPs will be invalid, unroutable, or just not pointing to anything interesting. We're waiting for just the right day, when the "random" signal hits a waiting port.

For what it's worth the IP mentioned earlier is owned by IANA (as are all IPs) and it's a multicast IP address. Definitely nothing in-game on it.

So, most likely we wait till the next full moon (Aug 28) to find out what it wants to say to us.

Oh, and thanks for looking that up Axys.

Next Full moon is on the 28th -- and it's a total lunar eclipse, to boot.

Heh, yer too quick, I just edited to add the date.

Didn't realize that it was also a lunar eclipse. We may be in for something really special.
