Connections Morgaine, Eserbet, Szaglas.

let's try to put things together:

.Capitain Morgaine said on her myspace profile "I can't explain myself, I'm afraid, sir, because I'm not myself you see". Her picture on myspace is really weird.

.She is trying to find people who can help her to find a new job: "Also, anyone in Paris who can help me get a better job or retire. Haha."

.Morgaine needs to get a new job and make more money to buy more expensive pieces of art.

.She is interested in buying some hungarian paints in Budapest (Hungary)

.Morgaine has a male friend who is a software developer and is married.

.She replied on her blog today: "I'm afraid my contact information is cofidentiel. Now, if you had my business card, that would be another story."

.She met a woman who speaks Magyar (hungarian) and was an excellent new contact for her. This lady was talking about a place to keep her pieces. http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=206131666&blogID=296073161 (maybe could the place where the perfume will be kept?)

.She has an hungarian friend on her myspace (Eserbet = old name for Elizabeth) who is a painter and is interested in fragances and old queens.

.Eserbet uses on her profile the words "Felhígított részvénytőke" which is something related with water in hungarian.

.Hungary Water historically was the first alcohol perfume formulated in Europe at the command of ELIZABETH, Queen of Hungary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungary_Water)

.Eserbet has only 3 friends (Tom, M. Szaglas and Morgaine).

.M. Szaglas is also hungarian and a fragrance designer. Her great great great uncle was the creator of the Hungarian Water.

.M. Szaglas says that "The appropriate fragrance for your personal chemistry will make you capable of doing unusual and impressive things."

.M. Szaglas says in her blog that Paris smells like garbage and she wonders if her old boss could work with Parisian officials to re-think the city's smell strategy. " Hmmmm - perhaps there is a niche for such a business?"

.M Szaglas has the picture of Queen Elizabeth of Hungary on the background of her profile.

.Sarah Jessica had 5 pencils, postcards (1 missing) and a sample of a perfume.

.Who are the 2 witnesses??

Someone help!

Roundup

Great roundup, Rosie, except for one point- SJP had a book of postcard STAMPS (timbres) with one missing.

That was a FANTASTIC analysis of what we know so far!

Now, what to do with it...

To continue all the Alice references, it's as if when we start down a path to the garden, we just end up right back at the house...

M. Szaglas signed up with myspace on 6/26/07 the same day as Morgaine "Belaso" but we already suspect a connection there. As for the newest, Ersebet, signed up on 8/06/07. She happens to be myspace friends with both Szaglas and "Belaso".

my questions

for SJP: where did you get the postcard stamps... did you use the one that was missing?

for Szaglas: Do you wear Hungary water or can it be injested to "work"...

you probably see were i'm going with that...

also.. the prints on Morgaine's myspace blog, (or the flower on Szaglas' myspace photos) could they be stegged? I was personally impressed they actually used Vigenere cypher... most of these commercial games aim to be so broad and shallow (so as to appeal to as many people as possible) that anagrams are as far as they'll take "coding" something.

LOL

or *gasp* atbash. Smile

Where did her extra stamp go? What was the perfume sample she had? Why is Mme. Cpt. Badeau so disgruntled? Where can I get those great velvet gloves? What's in teh evidence room? What's the Hungary Water connection?

These are things we need answered...

Sometimes the "hive mind" is one smart guy and a bunch of lurkers. Razz

But we all learn, and you never know what your unique background might bring to a game. Next week we'll need someone else with a unique perspective. It'll be fun!

Let's try to capture some of the thought processes here - I assume that ersebet was found because Morgaine Belaso, known to be in-game, has friended her. And we get to szaglas because ersebet, now also presumably a game character due to the direct Belaso link, has friended her. (Nothing confirmed yet, but seems logical.)

I take it nobody has found anyone else that our 3 probable in-game characters have friended?

Morgaine has him on her top friends...could be nothing though. His profile page is empty.

The Answer to the Passcode and when the next lead.....
read

Hey if you go back a few postings and look under the name degravedi he explains every thing its a cypher, but the cypher to use is called
Vigenere cypher google it online and then go through how it tells you to cypher it worked and i was able to get the passcode.... Its real clever how they did it.

Oh yeah the next challenge is august 14... if you go under official rules it list all the dates for the next challenge...

 hungarian

Eserbet uses on her profile the words "Felhígított részvénytőke" which is something related with water in hungarian.

When translated together, the words mean water but when translated seperately they mean something entirely different.

Felhígított-attenuate
észvénytőke-capital stock, stock

Wonder if Eserbet was meaning for the words to be used together or seperate?

Also when you search for Mrs. Pendleton on myspace using her email, a profile comes up but the user info says that it is a 26 y/o male so I think people are already trying to play around with this,....just an fyi

Odd - this guy has been in myspace since at least March, and there's nothing on his profile suggesting in-game-ness. Except that Morgaine friended him. Or - I toss to people who use myspace more - could that just mean he friended her?

I also get get Felhígít = water (verb) (And like 20+ other words that mean "water".) These dictionaries don't provide usage examples so I think we're missing something. For example, "attenuate" as a verb can mean to water down (weaken) something, so that may be why it's translated as "water".

The root of the second word (részvény) confirms the meaning "stock".

If the phrase doesn't mean "watered down stock" or something like that (adulterated?), I think we need a Hungarian to provide context for the phrase. I get no google hits on a perfume-related "Hungary Water" with those words. Can whoever suggested that link tell us where they got it?

edit - OK, I found "Hungary Water" (or "Queen of Hungary Water") in english as a scent/perfume attributed to a Polish queen. I still don't find a direct link between that and the hungarian phrase.
