108 is all over Abrams projects, it's like a lucky number to him.
Even look at 1-18-08.

I don't see "108" anywhere in "1-18-08". I see 118, 180 and 808, but I don't see 108 anywhere.

Seriously...?
4 8 15 16 23 42 - Lost Numbers = 108
1/08 - Month of Movie
Its just his number...Apparently Bungie has something with it to if you are following the IRIS Arg...Anyway Im guessing he's right on the money...I was thinking it could be found because of LOST and it would be a spoof name...So yeah very nice thinking and speculation but I think its real...Bravo Laughing

Are there any more instances you know of? 2 times, one not even related to this movie, doesn't seem like solid enough proof for me.

Don't know if it's been said but has anyone checked for anagrams of ASS THAT and whatever the other word was?

I searched for many things in relation to 1-18-08 and found what is called the Doomsday Algorithm or the Doomsday Rule. There are many sites that explain this but I believe wikipedia does it the best. Here is that link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_algorithm

To me, this clearly shows that 1-18-08 is the predicted "doomsday" based upon this rule. With that being said, what if...what IF 1-18-08 IS the title of the movie and we are actually waiting for a release date? At comic con Abrams said "we are 6 months from the release of the movie.."

That is February.

I have to agree with others that the monster needs no name. Think back in real life to the worst thing to happen to our country in a long time. Al Qaida is not the first thing that pops into my mind, nor is Osama. The date is how we all refer to it. 9-11.

Just my .02

In the trailer they talk about what seems to be an earthquake...

I dunno, just something I noticed.

True... although the Lighthouse at Alexandria was also destroyed by earthquake...

So I assume you're hinting, that maybe the Colossus is back, because there was an earthquake and 'Colossus' is a rumored title...

Heh, well, could be there's equal chance that the Lighthouse of Alexandria might go on a killing spree. Razz

Still, that's worth keeping in mind although I'm not sure how it may play in things... it's almost definitely not a real earthquake given the geography/geology of New York City.

What earthquake? There's no signs of an earthquake in the trailer; just the vid guy fumbling with the camera. The news report just says "Earthquake?" but in the newscast itself, no damage or shaking is mentioned--just the "thunderous, roaring sound."

The newscaster says it...it's written pretty prominently on the screen.

I'm mostly interested in what the monster is, not what it's called or what the movie title will be. An opinion only but it doesn't strike me that the movie title will be the monster name either way since it's focused on the human experience and not the monster one. Usually in monster movies, the human characters are supporting roles and are given generally cursory backstories just to be relevant at all. Like Jaws, Shark, Twister, Godzilla, etc.

When it's about the characters having to deal with a monster, they are the stars and the monster is a secondary character and the titles are usually more abstract, or don't specifically reference the monster. Like Halloween, Saw or Urban Legend, etc.

On a side note, xenothaulus makes a good point and I should've addressed it awhile ago when in some posts about the religious stuff I tended to POINT OUT this or that THING so you'd SEE IT...and ended up having a few people personalize on it and presume I must be all hostile and angry (or need to get laid as one recent one chased me down in IM to suggest). I clarified for him IM but can add it here now since it was raised, it's habitual for me to pinky the caps key to EMPHASIZE a word or sentence, and econimical. It's faster and easier to do that and just CAP THE WORDS than it is to stop and type in the bold tags and the end bold tags, or to go back through the text, highlight and find the B button up there. I'm not yelling at anyone, angry or anything else. It's just pure and simple emphasis - THIS MEANS THE SAME THING TO ME as this does to you - but yeah I'm aware that caps is considered "yelling" in cyberspace which can be inferred as hostility.

Nevertheless, had none of you guys known Abrams from a hole in the wall, or about this movie, and you just read the email, chances are it would never have struck you as a "clue" to anything more than word emphasis on its face. Also consider, this was a private email exchange...not a public announcement so on its face, Abrams was only speaking to one individual - where planting clues would be pretty pointless. Knowles wouldn't know until he got Abrams email the content of the message anyway, let alone it would contain anything relevant, so it's not like Abrams is planting clues with Knowles so....so then what? His email seemed more a case of clarifying once and for all that EH doesn't have anything to do with anything, just to settle down that momentum of misinterpretation and confusion.

Not to deliver clues for this purpose.

Also consider the going assumption by many (myself and others excluded) that this either isn't an ARG, or if it is, it's not even ready yet, they're not even on the ball....if this is fact, then Abrams would doubtfully plant a clue for a single individual in an email and ignore the thousands of players out there who'd never see that one way or the other. I use UF as a case in point. A ton of people haven't actually seen the email, they've just read about the email on here...and nobody would've seen it at all had Knowles not posted it. It'd be the same problem for Abrams as it is for us. Clues to what, if he's not even ready for us?

Besides, ASS THAT FOUND is a truly stupid notion for a clue. You also have no idea what it's a clue for, or about. What would you solve? It has no relevance. It was a word emphasized that was entirely consistent with the point of the sentence. Ask the question: what ass? Found what? And you are immediately at a big wall considering the answers still have nothing at all to do with slusho or the 1-18 site. Nothing is lost. None of the characters are involved in stuff that is missing. Or being an ass who is looking to begin with. A clue leads somewhere. ASS THAT FOUND is BS.

True, but there's "shaking everywhere...like tremors" every time a truck drives by my apartment. It doesn't mean there's an earthquake. Besides, there's nothing at the party that indicates anything like an earthquake occurred. Not doubting that someone close to the roar might have experienced shaking, but loud, deep sounds do that. I'm just saying that there's no earthquake, per se.

No she doesn't. The newscast only shows EARTHQUAKE? with the question mark--they're just speculating as to the origin of the sound. Even if there was shaking somewhere (and there's no evidence of that at the party--the camera's no more shaky there than any of the other scenes), that doesn't mean an earthquake. If the beastie is as big as it must be, just walking would cause shaking, let alone the roaring. All I'm saying is that it's not an earthquake, tremors or not.

Name or not

People will naturally give the creature a name even if the film's name isn't the same. Frankenstein's monster being referred to as Frankenstein kinda proves that point.

Communicating in English, whether it's proper or not, we naturally shorten words to get our ideas across in the most efficient way possible. If something's not given a name, then it'll get one through discussion.

I think it would be smart to at least name the thing so "the monster from 1-18-08", if that ends up being the movie title, doesn't become "Onesy" or something like that just because it wasn't named.

Also, I have a feeling that, like most monster movies, they're aiming for a franchise. What do you call a sequel if they go with the date? 1-18-10 or something like that? "Monster's name" is probably the most logical way to go if they're planning on a "part 2", "vs. Godzilla", or "Does Dallas" type thing.

Plus, finding the creature's name could be a part of the ARG if we find a fake site dedicated to a fake myth about said creature. Wink ...yea I've still got my fingers crossed...

Well, in the 'earthquake's defense you can hear car alarms going off after the monster's roar and I doubt the roar itself did it. Plus the power was knocked out for a short span of time.

Additionally, I believe a party goer asked "Did you feel that?"

But I don't think anyone here is saying it was a real earthquake, the NY1 graphics simply asks because it appeared to be something that shook Manhattan Island.
